no, i dont have spyware or anything, i just changed ISPs so i know it is some kind of setting... which one
I have seen many articles about setting up your server. WAMP, LAMP, IIS and more. But they are based on software.
I want to know that What server hardware is required to setup a server? What type of internet connection is needed? What will be total cost?
I am from middle class family from india. I have airtel broadband 256 kbps dynamic IP unlimited plan for my daily use. Airtel provides business plans too with static IP address. You can check their tariff here:
airtelbroadband.in/wps/wcm/connect/airtel.in/Airtel.In/Home/ForYourBusiness/Data+and+Internet/Broadband+and+Internet/Tariff/
I want to know that if I want to host upto 10 websites with upto 20 lakh pageviews/month on a server...
which internet connection should I use?
what type of server hardware should I use?
what should be its configuration?
How can I set domain name on my webserver IP?
I am not going to host 10 sites on server. Even I am not going to setup a server.
I have never seen anybody talking about server hardware. They always talk about software (apache, php, iis, sql etc).
I want to know about server hardware and its configuration.
I have been a client of SolidInternet for exactly 7 years back since they were Myacen. I was able to deal with the fact that their customer service was less than desirable.
It was a little better as Myacen but SolidInternet seemed to adopt the philosophy that customer service was less needed.
I was never able to access their forums because it would not allow me to register. For months ever since they changed their site I have not been able to access my account page. So they started to automatic bill me. I did not make a big deal of it because for the most part my site was staying up.
NOW, there is a BIG problem. My site has been down since early Monday evening. TWO of their servers (server 4 and server 8) were down in red on their server status page when I checked up until Tuesday night. Since then, they have removed their support page (and server status page) and replaced it with a page that says "Back Soon." They have also removed their live chat which didn't work once you entered it anyway.
I have emailed them twice at sales@tw.com.au and msn@solidinternet.com since Tuesday night to request SOME kind of update as to what is going on. NO response.
Is anyone else aware of this problem? I am very close to switching hosts. 7 years ago I signed up with Hostpacket and they had only a few people running it until eventually the owner abandoned ship. I chose Myacen because they seemed to have a good track record at the time and good package. Now I get the feeling their level of support has been short staffed as well and it seems like now they just don't care.
Does anyone know anything about what is going on with SolidInternet or experiencing the same problem? Is there anyone from SolidInternet on this board able to give an update as to why two of their servers have been down almost 72 hours?
As far as new hosts I am looking into the following: hostgator, 1and1, ixwebhosting, dreamhost, hostmonster, godaddy. I'd love to go with pair.com but they don't offer enough and are expensive (except for the fact that they do provide great customer service and uptime from what I hear). I want someone with a long track record and good customer support if needed.
I am attempting to setup two computers for web hosting but I only have one internet connection and I am having some problems getting this to work.
This is my first post on this site, so please be patient with me as I am fairly new to web hosting and how t set it all up.
I have two computer both are running windows xp pro with one having IIS 5.1 and the other one with Apache. I can't seem to get them to work together. If I have both apache and IIS running at the same time one of them seems to over ride the other.
Is there some way that I can get them to work together or is this not going to work for me this way?
I am using Hostgator's basic dedicated plan, and wondering how practical it would be to consider starting a sort of internet TV, where I will be hosting the content. I see big guys are doing that YouTube is doing that for example, and there are lots of other sites that are offering online shows, like BBC, CNN, etc.
Anyone has any idea how this works, from the server's point of view? Is it practical to think that with a basic dedicated server one can host an internet movie / TV channel? I know that the obvious question will be the number of visitors, and how many hours / day they are watching the TV, well, that would be a tough question to answer, but I would prefer to be ready for the worst, say 1 00 000 people watching 2 hours a day, or even worse (I mean, good so far as the popularity is considered, but not so good for the server).

If you met any problems with downloading from Odin servers (autoinstall.plesk.com or autoinstall-win.pp.parallels.com) - please describe this problem briefly and specify geographic location (country, city) of your Plesk server.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI am looking for a reliable dedicated server provider that allows IRC. I am looking for something under 100 dollars. My budget is 100 dollars, not a cent more. I am not concerned about management levels. Managed or un-managed doesn't matter. I would prefer a U.S. based location.
1. Dont ask me what specs I am looking for; the under $100 budget will dictate the specs.
2. Yes, I am aware that there have been two topics about dedicated servers that allow IRC in the recent past. I was unable to find a host from those topics.
3. Yes, I am sure I am looking for a dedicated. Don't post links to shell providers.
4. I am about 99% sure, I will not purchase a dedicated server from your sig. If you don't have something useful to say, please don't say it at all.
5. I'm not looking for someone to tell me that its hard to find a dedicated server that allows IRC under 100 dollars. I am also fully aware that most dedicated providers don't allow IRC. On top of that I understand WHY a lot of providers don't allow IRC. Please don't post if your only going to say why IRC isn't allowed.
6. I have checked the offers sections. No luck. Please don't tell me to check the offers section.

View 8 Replies View Relatedi just buyed a dedicated server with 100mbps dedicated port..
how can i test the traffic on port to see is is realy working on 100mbps?
I've got a CentOS 5 box that I want to cap/throttle the speed of the port to ensure that no more than 50 meg is passing in either direction at any given time.
- I know you can do this with FreeBSD using ipfw but that's not an option for me at the moment...
- I also know you can do this with some reasonably decent switching gear but again that's not an option. It's not my switch and they don't provide capped ports.
So, the question then becomes is there any way to lock the port down to 50 meg using only linux itself?
just out of interest, does anyone know a ssh command(s) to bring up your servers hardware stats? Cpu type and clock speed, memory, disks etc.
I've looked everywhere for a shell command to show cpu type with no luck.
Some information about my forum:
I run a VBulletin forum with - 575,614 post, 14,369 members and 2.9 million page views per month. On average there are 300 - 400 people on the site.
The server right now is a Linux CentOS VPS with 1.1 gigs of memory. The hosting provider keeps telling me that I need a dedicated server.
Question # 1 - In your opinion - do you think its time for a dedicated server?
The server I am looking at has these stats:
E8300
2 GB RAM
250GB HD
cPanel
Management
The price I was given is pretty good. So the offer is going to be hard to pass up.
Question # 2 - Has anyone here used Future Hosting for their dedicated server solution?
I am just colocating servers and managing them myself, and renting services off of them. In the future I would like to start offering dedicated servers as well. I am wondering if many companies do this, or if its more of a general practice to just setup as a reseller? The worst part that comes to mind is thinking of how to do billing for the bandwidth per month. With my setup I would only be offering flat bandwidth packages (like 2TB a month) but even so, I cant think of anyway to automate it so WHMCS knows if they went over, if so, how much, etc.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI use shared web hosting service to get my website online. View 14 Replies View RelatedCurrently, I am using 1 VPS, and pay $30/mo.
Now, I want more resource. Should I buy another VPS ($30/mo)? Or buy a dedicated server(<=$60/mo)?
I understand that the 3rd choice is 1 upgraded VPS($60/mo). But I do NOT think it's better than 2 small VPS($30/mo).
which one is better? For now, I do NOT want to pay more than $60/mo.
My lease with LayeredTech is about to renew, so I am looking for better deals, and I found several $23 $24 $30 dedicated offers here. How are those servers/network/dc comparing to layeredtech?
I have not been looking for 2 years, because I was in other business. Badly needing a update on server industry now.
I thought utility bills are up, inflation is high, so it is a shock to see the price of dedicated servers are falling.
Does anyone know of a dedicated servers in USA/Canada that allow IRCd, and the price is UNDER $70/mo.
A server that has atleast 1GHz of processing power is good, such as a (Dual) P3 or a Celeron, or anything better.
It needs atleast 512MB of ram, and atleast 10GB IDE/SCSI (SCSI preferred, not needed) HDD.
And with atleast 1TB+ bandwidth.
Netdirekt has a $50 server which is what I need, though its in Germany, I prefer a USA/Canada server.
Currently I run my forum with a host that is having too much downtime for my liking. I run a new forum on vBulletin with 210 + members with 1-5 new members. My main requirements are PHP5, MySQL5 and OpenSSL. What would your suggestions be for a host / server specification? Unfortunately as I am not using any advertising so my monthly budget is rather low ($50). We currently have a dedicated server with a 2.4ghz processor and 512mb ram but I would be more than happy to move to a vps if it would be more reliable.

That price is pretty competitive, especially for 10tb dedicated bandwidth.
I was wondering if anyone has any servers with them? What's it been like?
Would be interesting to know since their main business line is just shared hosting.
I am thinking of getting their dedicated server as there prices are good

I'm looking for a UK based server that allows the following:
-Legal Adult Content
-IRC until it becomes an issue
-Download Sites
-Legal Bit Torrent
Need somewhere that has servers with over 4gb of ram (that should be everywhere these days, but you never know). Need CentOS 64bit offered. Anywhere in the UK is fine. 100mb port. At least 1500gb of bandwith. Fairly cheap bandwidth.
I know thats a pretty loose description i know, but does anyone have any suggestions?
