Intel Celeron E1400
Dec 12, 2008
I'm curious about the suitability of renting a box that uses the newish dual-core celeron. I plan to use it for the following: static cached cms front page, wordpress company blog, vbulletin customer forum, downloads of our product demos.
We're sort of at the point where we've spent most of our capital on making our game so I'm looking at options that will be reliable and preformant while we're small but will give us a little time to get our act together if we start getting lots of customers before the server just melts down.
So what do you think? Will this cpu with like a gig of ram be sufficient or am I just deluding myself?

I've received the following offer to dedicated server. I'm planning to use it for small projects to begin with, and expand if potential exists.
That's the reason for my post today, I want to know if the deal presents decent value or not, and what could the server potentially be used for.
Celeron 3.2GHz
1GB Ram
1 X 80GB SATA 7200 HDD (after OS install, leaves about 55GB of usable space)
Direct Admin Control Panel
3Mbps / 3Mbps unmetered line. Roughly 900GB transfer per month.
$49.00 mo

Now i've been looking at a LOT of servers in the past few weeks, many many sites.
I've seen a LOT of CELERON 2.4 GHZ being unloaded
BUT what about the AMD Semprons?
Who would rule over?
Whats the min Sempron that would rule over an Intel 2.4ghz?
Assuming both 1 GB RAM

Recently got an offer from a decent hosting place for a server with a Celeron 1.7ghz processor for a pretty good price.
Would that be sufficient to power what will primarily be blogs and emails?
All of the sites will be running things like Wordpress, b2evolution, and Nucleus.

which cpu is better in terms for game hosting.
I'm currently running the Celeron, and its going fine.
But, just wondering how good the Semperon stacks up to the celeron.
I'm not doing anything fancy, o these two low budget cpu's are fine for me,

We are hosting our software system which do calculation and file manipulation.
Now we have Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 and would like to get Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 to increase our system performance.
Also we have other choice, get Intel Xeon E5405 Harpertown 2.0GHz
to replace two above.
I think it is better to have one server box because one box easy to manage than two. Also Harpertown is much faster than these two together.
What is your opinion?

I have currently a server with a "Intel Core 2 duo e6640 2.4Ghz".
Now the company I'm at moving to a new data center and offering me a box for the same price with a Intel P3.4.
As I understand I would move from a two core to a single core CPU.
In the first move letter they send me, they where saying I would get a CPU plus, plus 1 GB mem more.

We have been offering mostly AMD servers for various reasons, but I am curious the reason many offer one vs. the other?
More demand? Reliability? Power consumption? Heat output? Compatability? Performance?

if there is already an equivalent Xeon for the i7 processors?
I mean that for example C2Q Q6600 is equivalent for X3220 if I'm right.
Also, I guess those Servers will cost a lot more, not only because the processor is very costly but it also requires DDR3 RAM which is still nowadays quite expensive...

I recently came across the pricing of Intel Atom powered Dedicated Servers which are as low as $39 (not managed of course) but, the hard disk space and bandwidth bundled with it is tempting.
I currently host a vBulletin Forum of mine of a 512 MB VPS and it performs fine but, I was thinking whether it would be better on an Atom as most are bundled with 2 GB of RAMs.
Anyone can help me out here - whether am thinking in the right direction or am entirely wrong in thinking this?

Web hosting is a competitive business with thousands of providers in the market. Success as a web hosting provider often comes down to maximizing the number of customers we can support for each additional server added to the infrastructure. To improve our success in this equation, it becomes critically important to find and use the correct machine/severs - all for excellent prices.
So friends I was just guessing an approx. no. of clients I will be able to accommodate per Intel-Nehalem-Server, (depending on the server resource utilization).

I purchased a E5200 box and just noticed today when i checked /proc/cpuinfo i was given a E6320
Normally its the first thing i check when i login.. but was a bit busy the day i received the server and just remembered today that i never checked.
Should i raise a ticket about it.. how much better would the newer E5200 be?
The server i ordered was E5200, 4GB, 200GB Hdd.
I did a benchmark test with the 6320 server and its right on the 200 mark.

I'm in the market for a new server for colocation, and to save myself some of the headaches I've had with my current one, I'd like it to have a good remote management system, specifically one that operates independently of the operating system, or ideally one that can be accessed even if the machine is powered off. What exactly should I be looking for? I've read a lot about IPMI and Intel vPro and AMT, and I'm not quite clear on how they all fit together.
At the very least, I need something that will let me power-cycle the machine and remotely access its serial console. All the hardware environment monitoring things in IPMI sound useful, but not essential for my purposes. Anyway, it sounds like vPro is part of many (or all?) current Core 2 processors, or am I mistaken? I'm looking mainly at machines with Core 2 Duo or Quad, so can I expect they'd have that built-in, or would I need to specifically request it or look for some particular chipset or CPU?

What is the difference between the Intel 5000V, 5000X, and 5000P? I have done some research on this and depending on the manufacturer they can all be identical. The only difference that I noticed on certain boards was the amounts of memory it can handle. Is that it?

I have make an argument for going with Intel chips for some new platforms. These will be used in Xen VPS hosting.
Scanning thru the products of newegg for example, it would seem first that AMD boards (Opterons) are cheaper then Intel's 775 boards. Then the Intel boards also require FB-Dimms which is a bit more expensive then Registered ram.
I know alot of hosters here prefer going with Intel. Is there any other reasons then just following the crowd? I do know Intel chips perform better but does that warrant say 300 more dollars of going with an Intel based solution?
What would be some convincing arguments for going with Intel instead of AMD chips?

I just picked up an Intel D946GZIS http://www.intel.com/products/mother...gzis/index.htm
I've heard of many taking the higher quality motherboards and removing the audio post in order to fit into a nice SuperMicro case. Does anyone care of share their method of doing so? I was thinking a Dremel possibly, but I'd like to gather opinions as I'd like only to have to use this Motherboard as this will be a personal Dev server.
