View 4 RepliesI've installed XAMPP so that I can redesign my site and my local snooker league site but I need help with configuring and install templates.
1) It says I have to manually configure the server, and it's say something about localhost:80 but I don't know how to configure or locate it.
2) How do I install a template to PHP once I've located the localhost:80
about xampp:
xampp run apache and mysql and filezillaftp and mercury that mercury run imap4 and pop3 and smtp.
everyone know that how i must connect to imap .
I am determining the best local server solutions for my scenario: Windows XP Home SP2. And run the os CMS Typo3 locally.
Like most, I figured I'd have to install Apache, MySQL and phpMyAdmin one at a time. But it took me an hour just to find if this was possible for XP Home. And I am hesitant to go down the same frustrating road I see so many others have. I'd prefer to invest my time learning my CMS, not the server.
Then I see many helpful posts recommending either WAMP5 or XAMPP. Please, tell us what you prefer? Maybe you can tell us why (PLEASE include your OS). I looked all over for a discussion about it, and didn't find one. Here's one now for all to view and take from.
WAMP5 1.7.0 contains:Apache 2.2.4
PHP 5.2.1 + PECL
SQLitemanager
MySQL 5.0.27
Phpmyadmin
And the larger XAMPP 1.6.0a contains:Apache HTTPD 2.2.4,
MySQL 5.0.33,
PHP 5.2.1 + 4.4.5 + PEAR + Switch,
Openssl 0.9.8d,
phpMyAdmin 2.9.2,
XAMPP Control Panel 2.4,
Webalizer 2.01-10,
Mercury Mail Transport System für Win32 und NetWare Systems v4.01a,
FileZilla FTP Server 0.9.22,
SQLite 2.8.15,
ADODB 4.93a,
Zend Optimizer 3.2.2,
XAMPP Security.
I have gotten quite a few dedi in the past and every single one of them will provide me a server with cpanel, etc installed.
Recently I signed up with a new provider and to my surprise, I need to install cpanel myself.
"oh i dont think you understood, we have licensed cpanel to you, you will need to actually install cpanel"
What is the best way to get Sharepoint via hosting company. I am thinking about getting cost-effective dedicated server package and install SharePoint. Is this possible and if so, what good hosting comapnies that can do this?
Or are there all in one packages that can offer this? This company [url]. Are there other companies like this... $245/mo is really expensive.
i install xampp on my pc(my pc is vista)

I'm trying to install Joomla on my home server, and it requires mysql to have a password for security. Since nothing of my server is anywhere on the net, I never bothered to set a pass (yeah, I should have anyway).
Google led me to this article on the mysql forums, which worked up until it tried to initialize mysql (or whatever the command does, I'm guessing initialize). It's trying to look for the xampp folder that I had installed and uninstalled long before.
Code:
C:Documents and Settings[user]>C:wampmysqlinmysqld-nt --init-file=C:mysql-init.txt
080206 18:17:47 [ERROR] Can't find messagefile 'c:xamppmysqlshareenglisherrmsg.sys'
080206 18:17:47 [ERROR] Aborting
Is there a mysql setting I need to change?
I have a vps with cheapvps.co.uk.their service is great. I have used it for one month without any problems. but today I noticed that I can not access my vps through web browser. it gave me this error :
Connection actively refused by the server
after contacting support it was clear for me that the problem is that xampp apache is not running. and support said that as my vps is unmanaged they can not help me right now.
when I enter this command :
/opt/lampp/lampp startapache
I see this message :
XAMPP: Starting Apache with SSL (and PHP5)...
and then nothing happens and apache does not start.
I completely removed Xampp and reinstalled it. then when I try to start xamp apache it says :
XAMPP: Starting Apache with SSL (and PHP5)...
XAMPP: Error 1! Couldn't start Apache!
XAMPP: Starting diagnose...
XAMPP: Make the httpd.conf fit your system.
XAMPP: Next try...
XAMPP: Starting Apache with SSL (and PHP5)...
I do not know what to do with httpd.conf and I dont know where exactly it is.
Trying to access my website, which is running on my PC on Apache XAMPP, from another PC by typing:
http://IP:80 and I get a simple page not found error.
Firewall on router and PC are disabled.
Port forwarding is done.
Apache is running on port 80 and port 444
Added to httpd-xampp.conf:
I have a client who is UK based and whose readership will be mostly UK based.
They want to use Joomla and have asked me to install and configure.
I don't anticipate high traffic or needing lots of space, just need a reliable responsive host, probably UK based.
I don't want to use Fantastico automatic install. I prefer to install myself.
SSH desirable but not essential.
I have a xampp install on my Home PC(Windows) for testing scripts. I forgot the password for mysql as didn't use it for while. now Phpmyadmin won't connect.
how do i reset password for Xampp?
I have XAMPP server which works fine. When I wanted to load webpages through my lan network it said I need to edit httpd-xampp.conf. When I try to load from internet there is no connection at all. I changed httpd-xampp.conf from this
Code :
<LocationMatch "^/(?i:(?:xampp|security|licenses|phpmyadmin|webalizer|server-status|server-info))">
Order deny,allow
Deny from all
Allow from 127.0.0.0/8
ErrorDocument 403 /error/HTTP_XAMPP_FORBIDDEN.html.var
</LocationMatch>
I installed XAMPP a few weeks ago and had a php website working on my localhost – all worked fine no probs. To do this I had to stop my IIS server as this was also using port:80 which is what XAMPP is set to use as default. Now for some reason when I started IIS again a few days ago to do some asp development work and then stopped it again, the apache server would not start even though I’ve definitely stopped IIS. I have tried uninstalling and re-installing XAMPP, but it still won’t start. I tried running the apache_start.bat from the command line and I got the following error message:
"An attempt was made to access a socket in a way forbidden by its
access permissions": make_sock: unable to listen for connections on address 0.0.0.0:80 no listening sockets available, shutting down
Apache could not be started
If I try and start Apache from the XAMPP control panel it just says Apache:stopped and the message in the bottom window is ERROR: Apache service not started [-1]
I was just wondering if you had come across this problem before? If yes, how did you resolve it? Someone mentioned changing the port, but being a bit new to apache and XAMPP I’m not really sure what would need to change in what config files.

Hosting company - which shall thus far remain anonymous - is telling me NO to installing ASPPDF on our shared account. I'm not asking for it for free - I'm asking them if I go and drop the $300 and buy a license for ASPPDF how much will they charge to install it.
"Upgrade to dedicated!" they say. And still haven't given me a price to install it. I'm currently paying $40/mo. Their dedicated Windows plans start at $400/mo.
Is this common? Or perhaps am I with the wrong company?
Is it possible to install Plesk 12 to Debian Jessie with the autoinstall script?

What difference between yum install php or manually install php from scrach (build, make and install)?
I know manually install could configure lots of parameters and paths, like --iconv, --mbsting, etc. I don't know anything behind yum install php. If I want to install php everything in the following:
./configure --prefix=/usr/local/webserver/php --with-config-file-path=/usr/local/webserver/php/etc --with-mysql=/usr/local/webserver/mysql --with-mysqli=/usr/local/webserver/mysql/bin/mysql_config --with-iconv-dir=/usr/local --with-freetype-dir --with-jpeg-dir --with-png-dir --with-zlib --with-libxml-dir=/usr --enable-xml --disable-debug --disable-rpath --enable-discard-path --enable-safe-mode --enable-bcmath --enable-shmop --enable-sysvsem --enable-inline-optimization --with-curl --with-curlwrappers --enable-mbregex --enable-fastcgi --enable-fpm --enable-force-cgi-redirect --enable-mbstring --with-mcrypt --with-gd --enable-gd-native-ttf --with-openssl --with-sendmail=/usr/sbin/sendmail
to installing linux software and have been beating my head for a couple of days. I just learned that I can use something on my CENTOS 5 - which is the same as RHEL 5 - to install the rpm and all dependencies.
Numeric-24.2-1.i586.rpm is the rpm I want to install, if that matters.
How can I do install it AND any dependencies?
I'm configuring a website for a client who has moved their web hosting to downtownhost, but is keeping their email hosting with their current provider. They do not want to configure an MX entry on DTH to autoforward email back to their current provider because they don't want their email to pass through DTH.
In order to do this, do I keep the nameserver entries on the current provider the same, and configure an http redirect to point to DTH? Or is there something else I should configure on the current provider?
I'm wondering if you can tell me something about your experience with a host/server in a different country or overseas.
My webpage will be mostly frequented by Australians.
What do you think is the advantage and the disadvantage of having a host in your own country and having one overseas?
I'm thinking about stability, traffic speed, peak hours in different time zones, customer service, ....
What are your experiences?
I was with Blue Host and their support and service was pretty bad. Servers going down all the time, and chat support was terrible. Then I moved to Host Monster and received the same kind of service/support. I later then figured out that Blue Host and Host Monster is runned by the same people. For example, I opened up a tech support ticket with Host Monster and then they replied signing their signature with Blue Host. So I got the same service: terrible tech support and servers kept going down. Now I'm looking for a new web hosting. I a few people here gave Host Gator some good reviews. I hope Host Gator is not run be the same people that runs Blue Host and Host Monster.
View 15 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone have a preference for Host Excellence compared to Blue Host?
Do you think their basic offers are the same?
This is for just a couple of simple domains and sites to be hosted.
with this being my first website goddady's website tonight or there blog site plan seem pretty good as I do not know how to build a professional looking website nor do I have a knowledge of HTML. Are there other hosts that offer better services such as these?
Also I would want to register with 1&1 as to register privately is free but with godaddy it costs around $15 and I've heard of godaddy stealing persons domains when they haven't even expired yet i.e. familyAlbum.com?
Is it allowed for instance to register my domain name with 1&1 and host my site with godaddy?
If you had to chose either Host Gator or Hawk Host which would you go with and why? Don't bring any other hosts into consideration just compare these two. This would be for a standard website, forum, and a few downloads if it makes a difference...nothing too fancy.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have just made a personal website using photoshop, html, css and php. My site contains an index page, a gallery page with 8 photos, a contact page with a form and an extra page with some quotes. I am planning to use a paid host for the first time. Based on feedbacks from some of my sitepoint friends, I decided to go in for shared hosting. I thought of using Hostdogs.com as they have the option of a monthly billing cycle. I thought that I have the option of changing my host after a month if I am not happy with them. I have also read a lot about Hostgator.com. A lot of sitepoint members seem hooked to it.
1. Can anyone give an opinion as to which host I should go in for? Hostdogs also give a free domain. Is there any reason I should go in for Hostgator instead of Hostdogs?
2. One more question, I have heard that once I have a site running, I can earn money through the advertisements placed on it? How do I place advertisements on my site?
3. One last and very important question is whether it is right to go in for shared hosting at this point of time. I just read this
Quote:
When you look for a suitable host, be sure to check out the amount of bandwidth that will be available to your site. Even a site that doesn't require a great deal of data transfer per month could run slowly if you're hosted on a shared server; particularly if you are on the same server as a more popular or bandwidth-intensive site.
The more sites hosted on a server, the more likely they are to compete with each other for available resources, including bandwidth. This is why you may notice a reduction in server response times during busy periods, or during a sudden peak in traffic at a busier site on a server that you share.
This made me wonder whether I should go in for shared hosting. But then mine is a personal home page which may not have so much of traffic.
4. What does the paragraph below mean? How does one handle ones registration manually?
Self-Management (no cost)
Select this option if you prefer to handle your registration manually.Your web host can establish service with any Top-Level Domain (TLD), international or domestic.
I will be setting up a site which uses ASP.NET 1.1. I know versions 3.0/3.5 are available, but they are not yet V2.0 compliant. Anyway thst is not the issue - just context.
Would like your advice as to whether it would be better to host this site with a company who looks as though they are specialising in ASP; such as DiscountASP, or Softsyhosting, or go with a general Windows hoster such as Steadfast, Fluidhosting, or 3Essentials?
I know nothing about ASP, so I don't know whether it is not at all neccessary to have a host specifically knowledgable about it, as I am unlikely to ever have problems with it, OR; I will most certainly have to address ASP issues sometime, so it would be essential to have support who really knows ASP.

I want to install several VPS's on this server so i have one for shared users, one for reseller users and then the rest can be purchased. Unfortunately i have no idea how to install VPS's. Which is the best visualization software for VPS's? And how do i install and how to get whmcs to create them. Or are they already created?
I am also wondering about control panels and do vps's have to have their own separate control panel or do they all run of the main control panel.
Also what is the rule of thumb on how many vps's per server.
