Innohosting Vps Or Shared Hosting

Mar 25, 2009

i see that inno offers vps as well.

reseller thread 729840

So using these specs:

"I need a reseller with whatever space and bandwidth is applicable, and a price up around $20-$30. I need php 5 / mysql 5 , ssh for the reseller account and all subaccounts, ftp as well, memcached (future)

White label to allow my own nameservers.

WHM and WHMCS / billing software. This should be included and not an addition cost or yearly licence levy.

The reseller account must not oversell or be on oversellers. I need good uptime, performance and speed on the box.

The IP addresses for the nameservers and the main resell account should be included in the price.

Unlimited email and the ability to mass email a reasonable amount of emails from any of the sold accounts in a 24 hour period- for php list / mail lists (not spam) etc.

US Data center please.

And the company must have some sort of intellectual property policy document." from that thread, am i better off with a reseller or a vps?

Can i get branded nameservers in a vps scenario? hows that work?

Will I have access to the vps only via ssh or via a remote desktop type method?

I'm a software developer, not an admin, but I have centos in a virtualbox if that means anything..

About InnoHosting, HostGator, GeekStorage, FlyHigh, KnownHost

May 27, 2008

(The features I asked for: Zend Optimizer, IonCube Loader, cron jobs, PHP.ini, .htaccess, mod_rewrite, PHP SAFE MODE OFF, and PDO for MySQL -- and I focused on packages around or below US$20)

HOST: InnoHosting - They get amazing reviews here, and I got excellent (!) live chat support (from Rameen I believe). He responded the second I clicked the 'Live chat' button, and was able to answer even my most technical questions right off the bat. Fast, efficient, and to the point - very cool. They are also one of the most expensive in my lineup though, at $20 for a 10GB/200GB solution, which is really the only downside I've found.

FEATURES: Inno offered every feature except SSH, but they told me if I needed something (within reason) done on the server, just let them know and they would be happy to do it for me.

PRICE: $20 for a 10GB/200GB reseller package

HOST: HostGator - They seem to have a good reputation here too, apart from the odd complaint over backups and business practices. I get the impression that HG is HUGE, which is both appealing and scary, since huge hosts may be more reliable in the long run, but often don't do support too well. I contacted them via live chat, which I'm sorry to say wasn't as great an experience as InnoHosting. It took quite a while for a supporter to reply, and for every question, I had to wait up to several minutes before getting an answer. Also, he couldn't answer my more technical questions, instead referring me to email support. He did however supply me with a URL to phpinfo() when I asked about it, and I found my answers in there.

FEATURES: HostGator offered every feature I asked about, although they mentioned I might have to contact support for mod_rewrite privileges. I'm not sure I trust the supporters answers entirely, but it's hard to argue with their price and the ability to move to one of (seemingly) hundreds of other servers if I wind up on a too-crowded one.

PRICE: $8 for a 600GB/6TB package (which is obviously pure über-overselling, but check out blog.hostgator.com/2007/10/06/selling-out/ (wasn't allowed to link the URL) for a refreshingly honest explanation by Brent)

HOST: GeekStorage - These guys stand out in the lineup in several ways: First of all, they don't have a great reputation here, and secondly, they have an entirely different concept than pretty much every other hosting provider out there. They are geeks, cater to geeks, and talk the geek talk. From what I've heard though, they don't always walk the geek walk, but I just find their site so appealing. The simple fact that they specify their plans in true geek detail says a lot. They don't have live chat support though, so I contacted them via their ticket system, and received a response (from Jay Higdon) after 5 hours. That's acceptable for pre-sales, but I sincerely hope they have better response times for customers in distress. However, their forums seem to tell a tale of frequent outages and frustrated clients.

FEATURES: Like true geeks, GS supported everything on my list, except PHP.ini access (users are supposed to use php_value in .htaccess instead, which is probably fine in most cases). In addition, the GS package has 2 dedicated IPs, MX record access, and a whole slew of other neat features that nearly noone else offers - and that I don't really need, but they do make my geek heart all warm and fuzzy.

PRICE: $20 for a 25GB/200GB reseller package, which is about the disk space I need, so that alone makes it an appealing choice.

HOST: Fly high / FlyHigh - Another company with great reviews on the forum. I really wanted to check them out, but their database is down, so I can't get through to the customization, and I can't even open their contact page. Sadly, that little glitch is going to cost them my business. If FlyHigh is reading this, you probably want to get on that pronto, hint hint..

FEATURES / PRICE: I couldn't even ask them, so I wouldn't know.

HOST: KnownHost - KnownHost seems to have a good following on WHT as well, so I decided to check them out just now. I emailed the about features an hour ago exactly, so I haven't heard from them yet. (I will update my post here as soon as I do.)

FEATURES: (coming)

PRICE: $20 for a 10GB/75GB reseller package

Other hosts I checked out, who didn't make the cut:

* HawkHost: Their live chat appeared to be online, but noone replied. That's an instant disqualification with me, even if their service looked great and their reputation on WHT is excellent.

* GoDaddy: I've heard mostly bad things about GoDaddy, but their insanely low prices ($7 for 150GB/1.5TB) warranted a closer look. Their website is one huge epilepsy-inducing mess though, and I couldn't find half the info I needed, so I went with my gut feeling and ditched them.

So now - barring a _really_ good offer from someone else - it's down to either Inno or Gator for me, especially because they are both avid readers/contributors here on WHT, which is a huge lpus for me. But I'm really not sure which to pick. The great support at Inno, or the larger disk space at Gator. 10 GBs will be cramped for my use, but Inno charges $40-45 for 20 GBs, which seems a bit steep to me (since I won't be reselling).

Which CDN Provider

May 8, 2009

i am considering moving over from a dedicated server to a VPS solution, but host files via a CDN provider.

Can people give me their experiences of CDN providers please.

In particular i am looking at:

The prices they are paying

The quality of their bandwidth

The speeds they are getting (average)

Is your provider a reseller of another

Am looking to make available a variety of files from PNG, PSD, Vector and ISO files. Some of the files are as big as 10GB in size. I know some providers only manage certain file types.

Two IPs Or One IP With Provider

Oct 12, 2007

I got a VPS, I have

ns1.mydomain.com 123.123.123
ns2.mydomain.com 123.123.124

For all my sites I used the first Ip until recently I tried to use the second ip for a particular site

Every thing went alright, I thought my site with second ip is working until yesterday I received a Call from India and the guy told me that he could not view my website because he got some thing like Network error DNS failed

I checked my site it was loading, I asked my provider and he says nothing is wrong and he can view my site

I checked

[url]

I got this Error

ERROR: Although you have at least 2 NS records, they both point to the same server, resulting in a single point of failure. You are required to have at least 2 nameservers per RFC 1035 section 2.2.

I talked with my provide but the response was this

''''''''''
This message will show up always when dnsstuff is able to detect that both nameserver names are pointing to the same physical system. This message doesn't affect connectivity and/or performance.

When there's a problem with the upstream provider, shouldn't all my IPs go down?

I have a /24 with hosted with these guys, but some IPs are up while others keep going up/down.

Recommend An EU Provider

Oct 2, 2009

I've been thinking about getting a dedicated server in the EU, as the UK is just to expensive to rent a dedicated server.

I've read reviews of the two hosts I found on the net (OVH and 1&1) and none were all that favourable. (Especially 1&1 heh)

anyone recommend some alternative EU providers? or perhaps any reasonable priced UK services?

SBSSecure SSL Provider

Dec 30, 2008

Has anyone else here experienced terrible support responses.

Over a week ago I submitted a request to resubmit new CSR requests for 2 SSL certificates. I've ended up emailing 2 departments and trying to phone for a response.
When I phone the only response I've ever had is an answering message saying leave a message or email for a faster response!

The only email response I've ever had is a single reply saying I need to email a different department and a request has been forwarded to the correct department.

I aprreciate these are budget products but this is a dreadful support level and I'm seriously thinking I'll never purchase any of this company's products again, what if I purchase on a clients behalf, delays like this arent going to look good at all. I also appreciate its a seasonal period but come on, over a week!

Things To Ask A Vps Provider

Jan 18, 2008

I have been researching the vps market for a month or so now and have started to compile a list of questions to put to vps providers who get short listed. I would love some contributions!

1) What is the cpu and how is cpu capacity distributed, by account number limits, by assigning a certain number of mhz, is the asisgned capcity burstable?

2) ram is usually clearly advertised but who scalable is it? Can you add just extra ram or do you need to upgrade to the next package. Is it burstable and with what constraints.

3) are there any limits for the number of processes (shared hosting providers may limit processes to only a few, 15 for instance before terminating them). This isnt advertsised but need to be answered for dynamic sites with high traffic.

4) Number of simaltanious connections, both from individual Ips to the sites/account or to pop3 accounts. If the pop3 account sim con is low its will be annoying when trying to donwlaod email from several of your sites at the same time....attempts after the X number will fail.

5) Will your account have assigned bandwidth or will you just be sharing whatever connection 10/100mbps with the other uses on the server. This isnt such a big deal as a lot of servers will be streched to output 100mbps of data. If the connection is a 10mbps one then its much more important.

6) if you're used to a certain type of control panel make sure they have it and at what possible extra cost.

7) Check their terms and conditions for liability regards lost data. I chose a hosting company beofre because of their superior back up system, turns out they didnt use it and I lost 5 weeks of data (about $4000 loss for me). Their t & C avioded libility for any losses inspite of the fact that they advertises the b/u facility as a special feature.

8) quiz them on "Monitoring" and "Management". Us hosting novices may see these as the same thing but hosting companies do not. Monitoring is knowing that something is wrong, management is doing something about it. Many vps providers advertise full management but wait to be asked to fix problems that could have been lossing you money for days till one of your kind users lets you know.

9) What is their infrastructure...power, location, connectivity redundency like (ie how many T1,2 or 3 do they have and is that enough).

10) Support. Is it in house or outsourced....the later is bad as they are usually given little power to do anything and you have to wait longer for an inhouse guy to get off his lazy boy.

11) Do they limit the number of emails per period (ie like 500 per hour). This wont affect some but for those of us who have large memberships to send newsletters to this is a non starter.

Due to the above issues, I think i might want to get a VPS, it is essential there is no downtime, its a new site and I dont want our reputation to suffer due to downtime.

Hosting Provider For PHP

There are plenty of people searching the hosting provider. Below article for them.

At the time of selection of hosting provider, you need to consider some of the points like below:

1) Server speed is the best or not? For that you can ask to hosting provider that they can able to give demo account and if yes then check your requirement with that and then purchase.

2) How much space do you require and how much money are you spending. For this you need to search the cheapest and reliable hosting provide.

3) How much bandwidth, database, Email account, ftp account, Support are considerable.

4) If developer need to use joomla and other tool then you need to clarify your specific requirement for the same

Any Netherland Provider

Sep 6, 2008

We have decided to move our current provider because their payment processor problems. They can't charge my credit card directly and wanting to get from PayPal. And paypal is not allowing my country to pay directly but after registering.. We have also registered to Paypal and now there are problems with sending money limits even account is active and verified (card added + verified)

I am really tired of getting suspended while we have money but can't pay. Other payment ways don't fit to me because bank transfers get too high commissions, moneybookers says my limit is 200 euro per 60 days (very low for me)

Are there any providers you know in Netherlands that will give us servers ~80 euros (2gb ram, xeon cpu and 4-5 TB bandwidth) We have 10 servers currently but if these problems didn't occur, we would move all our services to them and get around 30 servers.

By the way my provider's name is E*catel. I love their services, network rocks and support but this problem is forcing me to do this.

Picking A VPS Provider

Jun 11, 2008

I am on a shared hosting right now with ASO, and I have 4 sites, 1 being a vB forum w/ 2k members. My forum keeps having time-outs and errors, daily, all the time. I talked with the host and they said that with a forum that size, I shouldn't be on a shared. However, I only need about 25GB bw and 500MB-1G of diskspace. I know a VPS will provide a lot more than that, but I want to move to something that will have no timeouts, and no constant errors. I was thinking of simply upgrading to the VPS that asmallorange offers, but after reading the reviews, they said the $50 package (the smallest package) was way overrated. As much as I'd hate to have to move to a new host, can anyone suggest a good hosting for VPS that isn't too expensive (no more than $50/month)? Or anyone who is on/has used a VPS at ASO, what the uptime was, and if it was worth it.

Can't Decide On A Xen VPS Provider

Jul 21, 2008

I'm currently split between vpslink, slidehost, wowvps, swvps, tektonic, linode

My requirements are
1) Must be Xen based. No Virtuozzo or OpenVZ.
2) Min 512MB
3) Budget: USD 30-40/mth
4) Unmanaged is fine as long as I have a control panel (Cpanel, Lxadmin are ok)

Tektonic meets all of the above except 1.
Linode, Slidehost meets all of the above except 4.

So i'm left with with vpslink, wowvps or swvps.

Which one should I choose? I'm leaning towards VPSlink.

Is there any other good Xen-based VPS providers that i should be considering?
