Domain Name Server (DNS) Service For Clients
So my the other day one of my clients rented a Windows 2003 server. Has no idea on how to run DNS server on it and demanded us to do something about it. Since he had no management plan, we let him know that if he got himself a management plan we could help him out - but looks as though he was on a tight budget and couldn't opt in for it. Same thing happened last week and again one yesterday! To help these customers out I was wondering if I could start a DNS service. Each client would get access to it for free regardless of their operating system or management plan. They could point their domains to the nameservers and use the DNS service to point the domain's A records to their servers. From the start, I have been using EditDNS and still using it. But coming to think of it, its getting more unstable day by day even though they have 5 servers spread across the globe. I am planning on to move to EveryDNS. With this move, I'd like to use their services for my clients too. Rather than running my own DNS servers - I feel this could work out more efficient and reliable. So what I am planning on doing here is more like creating private namesevers to mask EveryDNS's nameservers. Then have a custom script site built to interact with EveryDNS's APIs. Sounds like a good idea? Then my customer uses the script's interface to create/delete/edit records, etc. Anyway I need some advice, suggestion or help in this matter. Has anyone tried this stunt out before? If so, how successful were they/you? How are your customer's reaction towards this (satisfied or not?). Does it stay efficient? (both in terms of money, time and energy spent). Also, if anyone could suggest me any programmer who could do this for me (someone well versed with DNS/EveryDNS on PHP/MySQL) it would be nice. Edit: I guess ServerBeach/Peer 1 already has implement this. If anyone really knows whats going on there - please share.

How Do You Setup Reseller Account?
I'm curious, how do you all Cpanel server owners setup reseller accounts for clients? I find myself doing it this way (providing 2 static IP's, for ns1/ns2) 1. create reseller account 2. ssh > edit nameserverips and manually add ns1/ns2 to the two select IP's of choice 3. change account IP to first main static IP, in whm Any one else do it this way, or another method? I use WHMCS also, which creates the account automatically, but I have to edit nameserverips and appy ns1/ns2 manually in whm (A dns zone) manually. Also, I'm wanting to upgrade some of the PHP 4 / MYSQL 4 boxes to PHP 5 / MYSQL 5. Is it worth it, or not? If yes, what methods could I use to assure no side effects for some clients' scripts, or at least some method to help them should an issue arise?

Reseller Account Transfer
I know how to make backups and to transfer each client account separately, but I am just wondering if it is possible to transfer all customer accounts in WHM at once. You see, if for example I have more than 200 customers (hosting accounts) and wish to switch to another hosting company it will be difficult for me to transfer each account separately, that’s why I am asking this question. I Lose My Reseller Account
I didn't know where to put this question so please forgive me if it is the wrong section. I received an email yesterday from the abuse department of my reseller hosting saying I was overusing the resources. I asked what was causing this as my sites are small and built with cubecart. I got a reply today asking me about something called mode.exe which is causing load and increasing limits at Average usage stats. I have no idea what this is so can any of you tell me what it is and how I can resolve this issue as the abuse person recommended a VPS package to me which will cost me a fortune and is something I really shouldn't need for such small sites.

Reseller Account - But Not Reselling
I currently have a series of websites hosted with HostGator. The thing is, having a series of shared hosting plans starts to add up after a while. What I was considering was purchasing a reseller account (which will save us about $15/month) and then just hosting all our websites from there, obviously, not reselling the plans, just using them internally. For the savings, it seems like a logical thing to do. When we purchased shared plans, I bought bigger plans than we need, expecting the sites to grow (which some have, others have not). Has anyone done this? Do you suggest it? Would there be a better way than buying a reseller account (We can't afford a dedicated server quite yet)?

Disable Statistics For Just One Reseller Account
With my new VPS, I am trying to disable Statistics software (Awstats & Webalizer) for one reseller account (and all account under it). So I went to "Statistics Software Configuration" --> "User Permissions" Selected the user and under "configure" unchecked both option. Is that enough?? When I view "Statistics Status Summary" for all users, it still shows them as "green" for that user. I haven't actually moved anything to this VPS.

Crons Not Working In ONE Reseller Account
I have WHM 10.8.0 cPanel 10.9.0-R10737 Fedora i686 - WHM X v3.1.0 One of my resellers got a bunch of complaints this morning from her own customers that their crons have stopped running. She checked her own sites, and they're not running for her either. I double checked. They ARE running on the rest of the server. I have no complaints from anybody else on the server, they show from shell as running on the server, and crons are running in the site I'm working on to fix a broken script (in a different reseller account).

I'm setting my first eCommerce site and right now I need to resolve the following issue. I need to install (well, the hosting company will do it for me) a SSL certificate and I need to know what is best or common practice, to use domainname.com or www.domainname.com I don't know what difference it would make but it seems to do so because the hosting company is asking me to choose. Migrating From A Dedicated Server To A Reseller Account
I have a dedicated server which I need to migrate all sites to a reseller account on a different host. It comes down to 6 sites that I must not lose any emails. On the source server, I have full access to it. It's CentOS, WHM, cPanel, etc. On the destination reseller account (downtownhost), I have access to WHM, and individual cPanel. But I can't see any transfer or restore options on the WHM, though on the individual cPanel account, I see a restore option which states: Quote: This feature allows you to restore parts of your cPanel by uploading your partial backup zip file(s) that you downloaded from the backup feature. The following can be restored: * Home Directory * MySQL Databases * Email forwarders configuration * Email filters configuration My plan is so far: 1) Generate a full backup for each site on the source server. 2) Create the accounts on the destination reseller account. (Is it possible before I update the IP of the nameserver to point to the new server?) 3) Restore the sites with this wizard I mentioned above in each cPanel. 4) Change the nameserver host IP to the new server. 5) Hold my fingers and bless every living creature for a smooth move. if I could do this any better, trying not to lose any emails in the process.

How To Combine Dedicated Server With Reseller Account
I just bought a new dedicated server, set the nameserver to ns1.mydomain.com and ns2.mydomain.com, and have moved all accounts from my reseller to my new dedicated server. Now, the reseller account still has 10 months before expired. Can I use it for something like ns3.mydomain.com and ns4.mydomain.com? So, for example for A user, I want to put him on my reseller server, tell him to point his domain to ns3 and ns4, but for B user I want to put him to my dedicated server, and tell him to point his domain to ns1 and ns2. Is this possible? Or, is there any other thing, I can make my reseller account useful?

Mail() Is Running VERY Slowly On All Of The Linux Packages Of My Reseller Account
i am at my witts end here. mail() is running VERY slowly on all of the linux packages of my reseller account. Runs fine on windows, but not linux. The odd thing is that it also takes forever for some forms to load too. For mail(), if i switch from my hosting provider's email account in the to section of mail() to my isp or gmail or anything else, it will run fine. What could be the problem here? My host says he checked all the server records and levels and everything is fine, but my scripts can't be the problem either - they have been untouched for years!

Transfering CPanel Accounts From A Reseller Account To A VPS Without Root Password
I was just wondering if someone has made a new tool/script yet that will allow yo to transfer CPanel accounts in bulk (not the old way of doing them one by one) to another server (VPS/Dedicated) without having root access? Like I know in order to use the WHM's transfer from server to server you need root access on both servers, but I'm asking, if you have a Reseller account, and a VPS/Dedicated server, I know last time I checked the only way to transfer accounts over was by making a Backup file for each account and then transfering it over which can take a while if you are doing a lot of accounts.

Hosting/Domain Name Reseller
I am stuck between GoDaddy and HostGator for reseller account. What I want is to offer my client to host their site I design on my hosting service but I also want to offer reseller program on other site. Here are the problems: GoDaddy have good automatic system, but it won't let me have the freedom to have access into my client's cpanel to upload or update their website unless they have to give me their username and password. GoDaddy requires me to purchase reseller and SUPER reseller package if I want to run two websites. GatorHost offers me to manage WHM and Cpanel for my clients which is good. They also have ENOM for me to be domain dealer. The negative thing about Gatorhost is that I have to use one of their free template, if I need one, but their templates sucks! And I do not know how to tailor my own website with their WHM automated billing system. What do you suggest and where can I find a good hosting template to edit. I just wish that GatorHost have automatic system with better template!

What Is Your Best Reseller Host And Domain Registrar
I'm interested in maybe moving all my reseller hosting and domain registration from United Hosting and Low Cost Names respectively... So I'm interested in hearing what you are using and why... I'm a freelancer who resells space, I live in the UK and am wanting the best companies to work it for me and my clients... A few reasons why I want to change right now is that United Hosting just doesn't offer enough space for me, and I'm finding it more and more expensive for the value I'm getting. Though they are good as they allow me to edit php.ini files, have ImageMagick, and offer webmail to my clients etc. I do like Low Cost Names, but again I'm finding the lack of CNAME records a little disappointing. i just got this ssl certificate but i have some doubts how exactly should i set up the whole magic. i created the secure.domain.com which suppose to be the sub-domain for the login page which means when user decide to sign up/login to immediately transfer to the ssl state(sample: see ebay.com and then their https login page). so, far the home page which is domain.com(or www.domain.com) it doesn't need to be covered by the ssl. so, i was just wondering how do i play the game? i know it's kinda tricky and the key is somewhere in the sub-domain name(cP set up), .htaccess and/or index.php files but not very clear to me.

SSL For Any Domain Hosted On Single Server
is there any sort of ssl certificate that will 'secure' any domain, hosted on a single server? For example, I have the following domains and subdomains: google.com test.google.com mywebsite.com hello.example.com All will be hosted on the same server (same IP) and I want all to be secured, through a SIGNED certificate, not a self signed. I assumed that wildcard ssl would be fine for this, but I just took a look and it's only for subdomains: example.example.com hello.example.com. Is there any way of having every subdomain and domain secured, using ssl, through one certificate? I don't want to have to buy individual certificates for every domain, that'd be... expensive.

I would like to create an SSL website for parts of my domain. I have a few VPS's one running cPanel, the others running just Webmin. Now I have managed to install SSL as I can login to WHM/cPanel using the secure port fine. Also I have installed SSL on the Webmin VPS's as I followed www.webmin.com/ssl.html which tells you how. However I would like to get sections of my website secure i.e secure.mydomain.com would be HTTPS, and the rest of the site just normal HTTP.

FTP Account Name With Domain Suffix
We have several Cpanel account(web sites) with different IP in one box. Then we cut down to one single IP. While as the Cpanel is not availble, I re-configured apache to bind account to domain name , instead of IP as previously configured. So before when I use a user name like "james" to ftp, it was working, but not now. Now, I have to use james@domain.com to to ftp. Someone changed pure-ftp setttings somewhere which I don't know how he did it and I actually don't know if he helped or not on this problem. At least , ftp is working. But I really do want to know the relevancies between these matters. Cpanel is not available yet ( not licensed ); IP being cut from sereval to one which supples multiple web sites; Pure-ftpd seems needed to be configured.

Use A GMail Account? Watch Your Domain
After reading numerous accounts (27 and counting) of people's domains being stolen I decided to investigate the situation more closely. What follows is my personal investigation. Without jumping to any conclusions as to how all of these domains were hijacked, I gathered the facts and sat back to see where the common denominators were. All of the domains had GMail accounts listed in whois. Many of the domains were hosted with GoDaddy Many of them had Alexa rankings of less than 10,000 While the GoDaddy connection was interesting, the fact that all of the hijacked domains had GMail accounts stood out as the real common thread. It's still not clear how the hijacker was able to obtain access to the GMail accounts it is clear that using a GMail account for your domain registrations may not be a wise decision. We have seen infectious code on websites designed to either steal cookies or check to see if the visitor also has GMail opened in another window. A few cases involved visiting a webpage while GMail was opened and the webpage doing a POST to a GMail interface and injecting an email filter into the visitor's GMail settings. Typically the injection would include filters that would automatically skip the inbox and forward emails from register.com, godaddy.com and dreamhost.com to another GMail email account. Then with forwarding set and knowledge of the registered email address, the hijacker would have use GoDaddy's website to obtain the customer number, which requires a verification email. Armed with that information, the hijacker would go back to GoDaddy and have an Authorization Code for password reset, sent to the registered email address. The password would be sent to the email address, which would be forwarded to the hijacker and then they could move the domain to another registrar, change the website and benefit from the traffic to that website. Or in some of these recent cases, the hijacker asked for $2,000 in order to "give" the domain back. How did this happen? Creating a filter in your GMail account sends a request to the GMail server farm. The request is an obfuscated URL with each section identifying the filter, the account, etc. Many of the parameters passed in the URL can be generated accurately but one parameter needs the cookie from the account holder's computer. They can obtain this quite easily with any general cookie stealing technique (there are many). What can you do? For starters, this isn't the first exploit of GMail accounts. I would switch all of my domains to be registered to a different email address. Secondly, I would pay the extra money to have your domain information listed as Private. This way your contact information will not show up on whois searches. GoDaddy offers Protected Registration if you're already listed with them. Third, if you do use GMail, check your filters often. And check your deleted items as well. You never know what you might find in there. Anyone here have any stories to share about domains hijacked?

Two Domain Names For One Hosting Account
I have several domain names and I pay for hosting for each domain name. Each domain name gets little traffic, uses little bandwidth, and little storage space. I would like to pay for hosting once and share the bandwidth and storage space amongst the multiple sites. Do you know of a hosting company that offers this? 1 SSL Cert... 1 Domain... 2 Servers. How To Setup A Backup Server
We have two in-house servers, one is hosting our public web server. The other one was just purchased to host a mirror of the production server (as a backup). The site is protected by an SSL cert... my question is how do i set up the server(s) so if/when the backup server needs to be switched into produciton, the SSL cert will transition flawlessly? Primary Domain Change For WHM Account
I have a hostee who as part of an out-of-court settlement, needs to change the primary domain they host on. The domain they're switching to is already a parked domain on their account. At first blush, it seems like it would be pretty easy, but now I'm concerned about their email. Both of the principals of the company use Horde extensively for webmail, and as such I have files on the server for their email accounts. What I was thinking about doing is this: 1. Stop parking the "new" domain on the account. 2. Change the account from using the "old" domain in WHM to the "new" domain by modifying the account in WHM. 3. Forwarding email sent to user@old.domain to user@new.domain, in CPanel. 4. Assorted changes on website to account for the new domain - published email addresses, new SSL cert, things like that. My concern is in how to move the mail files, currently set up to be for user@old.domain, to be readable by Horde as user@new.domain, so it's seamless to the users. We will be keeping the old domain under our control, but not using it to point to the site any more; I just don't want to have to tell them "OK, to get your old email, you have to check this address, and to get new email, you have to check this one." Would my plan above actually accomplish that? Is there a better way within a WHM/CPanel framework to accomplish what I need without losing email or access to it? What am I missing?

I know this question has been asked before but I tried the solutions I could find on net but not total success. So, I have a shared hosting a/c with a domain(say www.xyz.com) pointing to it .. VPS Account With Multiple Domain Setup
I have a VPS account with WHM/Cpanel console access. I have three domains that I am trying to setup. Within WHM I have setup three different accounts, one for each domain. I am able to login to the cPanel for all three accounts. This also created a new web directory for each domain in /home/domain_name/public_html/. I have placed my default index.php in all three public_html with the same permissions. But only 1 domain is working the other two are not. What am I missing? I have confirmed that all three have the correct DNS servers with godaddy and I can do an nslookup on all three. My provider told me to share the IP so that is what I am configured as..

How To Restore Awstats From Normal Hosting Account To Addon Domain
I have created a addon domain using cpanel. I would like to restore awstats from prevous host (normal account) to 'addon domain' (domain2-addon.domain.co.uk). My backup awstats: awstats.domain.co.uk.conf awstats122005.domain.co.uk.txt awstats052005.domain.co.uk.txt etc. need to restore it to addon domain? but addon domain is setup under domain2-addon.domain.co.uk so i have to rename each file like awstats.domain2-addon.domain.co.uk.conf etc?
