View 5 RepliesI have frequently read that you should upload all files to and create folders in the public html. But recently an IT manager told me this sacrifices security completely. So in respect of setting up a new site,
Folder name (at server)
public html Q1 You place the index.htm file here, correct?
public ftp Q2 What do you place in this?
w3 Q3 do you place other folders at w3.sitename here?
user created Q4 are folders for the subdomain folders created here (and not in the public html folder) - for security reasons?
Q5 For add-on domains e.g. w3.sitename/add-on/abc.htm where is
it best to place the folder for the contents e.g. abc.htm?

View 5 Replies View RelatedFor some reason my computer, or any computer in the house won't allow me to upload Jpeg files to any server at all.
I have tried to upload to different servers, even using different computers.
Every other file will upload besides Jpegs. It will upload half the file then stop.
I have also tried using different FTP programs, from Filezilla, to Flash FXP to Cute FTP.
I checked photoshop to see if I might be savign the file wrong but It's Progressive Max Quality files, so the problems not there.
Has this happened ot anyone else before?
i need a webhosting for upload mp3 and video clip without copyright ..

We are using EC2, this EC2 is already linked with S3 for uploading the back of database.
We are using PHP script for this and its working fine. Now our developers want to upload media files directly from Client PC to the S3. This should be without disturbing current EC2 . We have implemented the uploading functionality through Flash. It will be great if you could tell us a way.
I have a apache server, and i'd love to find a way to be able to upload files to my server, allowing me to view the files on my server or in a folder, allowing me to download these files, edit them and re-upload them, replacing them such as files like word documents. I want it to be web-based as i'll be using it for school work, so i can upload them.
View 2 Replies View Relatedwhen doing upload file to my server through php srcipt or html. That all getting wrong with owner and file permission.
I thought that something wrong with server configuration like php.ini or apache.
We're managing a CMS script which we offer as a hosted solution / leased script. This means we have several accounts on our server, one pr. client/script user. They all run the same script software and occasionally we have to upgrade the script on these sites. Until now this is being done manually.
Connect with FTP -> upload new files -> Done.
This is very easy work but takes annoyingly much time due to FTP needing to set up connections, switching accounts, etc.. and if you have 100s or 1000s of accounts this becomes...yes...you know..
The question is now, how can this be done easier? I was hoping that it would be possible to do this automated somehow (we have root access to our server).
When i try to upload a image files to the linux based shared hosting server application with java and .Jsp files

Why FTP server (Serv-U FTP) is too slowly when i remote connect to folder?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have this problem with my hosting provider. Website is loading slowly (sometimes up to 10 sec) from my location. I've made several checks:
1. Script execution time is within 0.1 sec.
2. Tracert shows times within 0.3 sec.
3. Also, host-tracker.com shows average loading time ~2.0 sec (they check from 20-30 different locations around the world).
So, the questions:
1. What can cause such long slow-downs?
2. What average loading times can be expected from shared hosting? Is 2.0 sec (average) good or bad? For example, google.com has average response time of about 0.2-0.3 sec, but they have many servers around the world.
We have an issue with websites load very slowly in a new server (centos) and we recieve an email from the server stating the following:
IMPORTANT: Do not ignore this email.
The hostname (ns.domain.com) resolves to . It should resolve to
xx.xxx.xxx.90. Please be sure to correct /etc/hosts as well as the 'A'
entry in zone file for the domain.
Some are all of these problems can be caused by
/etc/resolv.conf being setup incorrectly. Please check this file if
you believe everything else is correct.
You may be able to automaticly correct this problem by using the ' Add an A entry for your hostname ' under ' Dns Functions ' in your Web Host Manager
and when we restart "DNS Server (BIND)" or "named" we get as part of the output the following:
view localhost_resolver: received notify for zone 'domain.com': not authoritative
Please find below the contents of /etc/hosts , /etc/resolv.conf and /etc/sysconfig/network:
/etc/hosts:
::1 localhost6.localdomain6 localhost6
# Do not remove the following line, or various programs
# that require network functionality will fail.
XX.xxx.xxx.90 ns.domain.com ns
127.0.0.1 localhost
/etc/resolv.conf :
#domain domain.com
#search domain.com
#nameserver 127.0.0.1
nameserver xx.xxx.xxx.92
nameserver xx.xxx.xxx.93
/etc/sysconfig/network:
NETWORKING=yes
NETWORKING_IPV6=yes
GATEWAY=xx.xxx.xxx.xx
HOSTNAME=ns.domain.com
DOMAINNAME=domain.com
So what could be wrong with the above settings?
I have just had a new Wordpress theme made but ever since it has been in use the site has been loading really slowly for me.
The site is This One - Is it loading slowly for you?
If so why do you think it is so slow?
It was working fine with the old theme and it is the same when installed on different servers.
In short, the main page for my Mediawiki install loads very slowly. I know I have a lot going on with the main page and can do some other things to speed it up but my main issue is a 10.5 second pause that I can discern no reason for. I ran the site through GT Metrix and saw this:
[URL]
What is that long pause for and how can I stop it?
i am at my witts end here. mail() is running VERY slowly on all of the linux packages of my reseller account. Runs fine on windows, but not linux. The odd thing is that it also takes forever for some forms to load too. For mail(), if i switch from my hosting provider's email account in the to section of mail() to my isp or gmail or anything else, it will run fine. What could be the problem here? My host says he checked all the server records and levels and everything is fine, but my scripts can't be the problem either - they have been untouched for years!
View 3 Replies View RelatedI couldn't keep my mouth shut (technically fingers). A customer wanted to upgrade servers and he needed a way to move the data across. Since I don't allow hard drives to be swapped, they have to do it manually all by themselves. I generally allow up-to 4 days for them to transfer data and make DNS changes, etc. But this time, I offered help! I agreed to move the data (darn me) and it just came out of me, involuntarily.
God knows what just happened... but in a positive way, customer is extremely happy!
So...
Both servers are on cPanel - with root access (duh)
200 odd files which total to 25 GB
1 database about 100 MB in size (no biggie)
I was planning on using one of my Windows 2003 servers (via remote desktop) to download the 25 GB and upload the 25 GB, but that sounds like a waste of resources and time.
i had upload problems with Aspirationhosting since signing up yesterday.
Tried the following -
1. filezilla ftp/sftp upload a 8m zip package only to get time out from time to time
2. tried other ftp client resulting same issue
3. upload the other hosting company in the same way turns out very fast
4. isp speed test turns out 180 -230k/s
5. cpanel>web upload to AH server only gets "dead" pages or hours time consuming for a 8m pack
6. contacted the support and ticket is still open, almost all possible issues considered but failed to crack
here is the error from time to time while filezillar ftp upload unpacked site files -
Error:Directory /home2/XXXXXX/public_html/XXXXX/directory1/2/3: no such file or directory
And if sftp used for uploading package site (only 8m) the error is - time out...
I'm trying to upload a 15mb SQL file via PHPMYADMIN, and each time I try it takes ages loading and then I get the following error:
Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 300 seconds exceeded in /usr/local/cpanel/base/3rdparty/phpMyAdmin/libraries/import/sql.php on line 118
Im having problems uploading a 250mb sql DB thru Phpmyadmin in localhost. Can someone please help me out with this one? Is there a better way to do this. It keeps telling that the file is too large to upload thru phpmyadmin.. I have edit the php.ini file but no luck it still says the same thing.
What I basicly just want to do is to look at my old database tables that I had from my old site. I need all my members information so that I can start migrating info. Is there a software that just allows me to look at my sql DB ? I have a local copy in my hard drive.
Whenever I tried to upload large files to my server it restarts the upload again and again and never actually uploads. It just keeps overwriting the previous file. I don't get any errors? It just automatically reuploads and overwrites the files everytime.

how i can make an FTP account for my clients to upload files to
but when they upload a file they dont see it after. I want to just make 1 ftp user / pass to give to my clients but after uploading they dont see the file or any other files in the folder.
Maybe a way for the file to auto move to another folder after uploading?
I have uploaded my site through FTP. Everything seems to be showing except the /images files.
Images in .gif and .jpg ain't showing up. The error I get is
"The image "image URL" cannot be displaying, because it contains error"
It's weird because the image is uploaded on the ftp in images folder but for some weird reason it's not showing up.
