I'm currently owning a website with little less than 500,000 users. Many of these users have been asking if I could send out updates about the site per email, like once per week or preferably once per day.
I'm not sure about the best way to do this. I did some reading and some people seem to suggest to get an extra dedicated server to send out the emails. Others say it's best to use a cloud service with SMTP relay, while I also saw suggestions to use a website like [url]
I have checked into mailchimp, and appearantly this whole thing will be very expensive if I want to send out email to so many users. I'm not an email marketeer and neither do I sell products, so the profit per user I would email is probably low. The primairy reason I want to send out updates is to keep my current memberbase happy, and to get some older inactive members to become active again. We had our site totally reworked recently, and it would be nice to let people know about that.
I also like to know if it's possible, in any service, to somehow unsubscribe users whos email addresses are no longer valid in an efficient way.
Some more facts:
- Those 500k users are 250k effective emails. The other people have never subscribed on registration, are blocked for misbehaviour on the site, or have unsubscribed at some point.
- As stated above, people have to subscribe upon registration. The checkbox for this is unchecked on default
- The oldest users in my database are 3 years old, so there is quite a chance emails might be no longer active.
- There are many scams in the industry I'm active in (survey panel). As a result, users are sceptical, and sometimes use alternate email addresses for registration. I believe that as a result of this there is a higher chance the email is nog longer in use than on other sites, although I have no stats of other websites to compare with.
- I once tried to send out email to 75k users on my current dedicated server. As a result, Yahoo deferred my emails (which caused trouble for the verification emails we send out upon registration). I contacted Yahoo and they whitelisted my server, but I don't feel like trying to send email from my current dedicated server again. Not to mention that the server had a lot of trouble sending out so many emails, the server load was really high while sending out all email.
I am using Bluehost as my primary / public server and yes had my own horror stories with them.. But I am still with them since they sorted things out with me. Any way... Bluehost has a Cap Limit of you can send somewhat 50 - 500 mails ( I just called them and raised it to 500).
I run a phpbb3 forum and want to send monthly newsletters to my members, I have more then 500 people so how exactly can I send them newsletters ?
Is there any special script that you use or special software that I need to run that will automatically get the email list from the phpbb3 board and send the emails every hour or something ?

Can you guys recommend any software that allows you to give certain staff members access to your WHM, but can restrict what they can do in WHM, like they can create accounts, but many not suspend them or terminate accounts?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI will have to deploy a site into VPS (or dedicated or amazon EC2, I don't really know yet, but I thik it could be VPS).
First of all I don't know how strong server do I need. It's rails application with 800k (up to 1million) pageviews per month. Could you tell me how much traffic do you have on your VPSes? It's rails app, so I think I will need RAM at first place.
The other requirements are:
* Server in Europe
* Stability
* Good support
* Root access
I'm in searching of an offer similar to Eurovps, someone can suggest me something of same quality? I want change from eurovps because we receive many down in this period and them dont want change my vps from managed to unmanaged, the only option to do this is to change vps when is very simple to change only the price into their system. I want use a new vps that reduce me the cost.

ThePlanet did a mailout the other day about their servers in UK. Does anyone have servers there? Good pings?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm looking for Managed VPS in Europe (for example UK, can be DE but with english website and support) or ultimately in USA (DC in east coast) with DirectAdmin panel.
I need about 10-20 GB hdd, 60-80GB transfer/month. The company should be already several years on the market...
recommendations for colocation in Europe, preferably NL or DE based?
Basic requirement:
1-5U initially, option to expand into half and full rack over time.
Reasonably priced bandwidth.
Decent remote hands when needed.
A sensible AUP would also be a requirement. I prefer a host to give you an opportunity to address any issues (such as a compromised system, copyright protected content, or similar) *before* they actually pull the plug. From what I have seen, some hosts will disable your switch port(s) almost the moment they receive a complaint - which is not acceptable.
tell me if there are any R-T-O Companies in Europe?
View 6 Replies View RelatedA friend has asked me to recommend a company for a Managed VPS solution, one that must be in hosted in Europe (I suggested that he might want to look to the USA but he doesn't want to). As I really don't know too much about European VPS solutions as I mainly deal with US datacenters and companies I wanted to ask for a recommendation.
He requires a managed linux VPS solution, with a control panel that can manage files, email, databases etc, so whether its directadmin, cPanel, Plesk or whatever, it doesn't really matter.
He is looking for the following specs:
20-30GB HDD
128 or more RAM
Bandwidth doesn't particularly matter as long as its not too low.
The budget is £20 or under (around $40) per month, so he's obviously looking at quite a low-end solution.
I'm currently using 1&1 Germany. Great service, but only in German and Google translator is getting to some funny translations. I've looked at 1&1 UK, but their prices are higher for slower servers with less RAM.
I don't want a server in the US.
I'd like Window 2003, or preferably 2008 with Hyper-V installed.
We are hosting provider.We have servers on Netdirekt,Layeredtech and Teklan ( Turkey ). We search other datacenters.We want dedicated reseller too.
Which dc you recommend on Europe ( Holland, UK, Germany, ).
Can anyone give a suggestion on choosing a DC that needs to have good connection and shortest route to Europe?
View 11 Replies View RelatedIm gonna run Zimbra webmail on a server, i dont really care where i host it (and i dont think a VPS will do for it), as long as its not in USA (slow for me as i live in Sweden).
Where should i host it?
Checked Leaseweb and they want 29 euro/month for a dedicated server with 512mb ram, CPU dosnt really matter as long as its atleast the same as leaseweb (sempron 3100+).
Is there any as cheap, or cheaper than that? I found many in .uk and .nl, xeneurope (only VPS?), etc..
I find 29euro/month + a domain VERY cheap..
I have a reseller account in USA but it seems that atlantic ocean is very big and so I m taking >240ms tracert .
So I need servers in Europe and more speed with VPS and not shared hosting.
I have seen the rackspace.co.uk with 80 ms tracert from Greece but the prices is out of question, something like that more cheaper?
Do you know Europe Linux and/or Windows VPS Providers?
UK,Netherland,Germany,France,Denmark And ....
Please list any company you know.
I`ll try my best to do so too.
to expand somewhere in western Europe for our gaming services. Anybody know a good datacenter with good tier1 backbones (level3, internap...)

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am wondering which is the best data Center to get allow ping from both sites, europe and the USA. For now I am searching for an Data Center at the US East Cost but I am not sure which is the best, therefore I would like to here your opinion on this.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI did do a search of the forum and it showed a few results, mostly non UK and some which were no longer online.
Now I'll make my own topic doh.
What I am looking for is a host which allows UDP + TCP sockets(fsockopen) so I can query gameservers from my hosting + send other commands to other programs.
Must be located in the UK and be fast
Offering a reseller option is a plus, but not required.
We currently use VirtualNames.co.uk which are excellent both feature wise and regarding customer service. Now, I'm acutely aware that ALL my clients use VN, what if VN die!!?
So I'm on the look out for another UK hosting co. with a decent feature set but more importantly perhaps is their support response time replying to queries etc.
I got several online pharmacies which i promote by SEO methods ( not SPAM etc. ) Need some advices where can i host them in Netherlands, Luxemburg or other eu countries not prohibiting pharmacy hosting.

What does this mean for European consumers? The E versions of Windows 7 will include all the features and functionality of Windows 7 in the rest of the world, other than browsing with Internet Explorer. Computer manufacturers will be able to add any browser they want to their Windows 7 machines, including Internet Explorer, so European consumers who purchase new PCs will be able to access the Internet without any problem. Consumers will also be able to add any Web browser to their PCs, to supplement or replace the browsers preinstalled by their computer manufacturer.
Do you know which companies offer Fully Managed VPS in european countries with Cpanel?
