Datacenters In Europe/Asia For VoIP Purposes
Oct 7, 2009
I'm looking for datacenters in Europe and Asia. My application is primarily going to be VoIP (95%). Connecting to Telcos via SIP in North America (mainly USA, so connectivity should be good) to terminate calls in North America, and later into UK and Japan, China, Australia and Singapore.
Looking for managed and colo options.

There are definitely several US-based providers (Softlayer, SingleHop, etc.) that have portals that allow self service -- OS rebuilds are especially important to me.
It seems harder to find in Europe and Asia though. I need servers in both, so if anyone has advice I'd appreciate it.
I know that Giga-International has these features as options, but I've read reviews that indicate that they are generally oversold. So they are not my first choice.

I require a server for intranet purposes.
Due to the Operating System Hardware Requirements (Microsoft Small Business Server 2008 Standard) the system requirements are high:
Processor:
Recommended:
2 GHz (x64 processor) or faster for single core
1.5 GHz or faster for multi-core
Memory:
Minimum: 4 GB RAM
Maximum: 32 GB
Available Disk Space:
Minimum: 60 GB
I have the product key and license, the only thing required is for the thing to be installed, so you the license fee doesn't need to be paid.
So, how much do you think a server of this spec should cost?
Dual-Core Preferred
4GB Preferred (it can deal with only 4GB, and it's not that slow)
60GB Disk

I currently have a dialup isp. We use a couple of wholesale dialup service providers to provide service to our users across the nation. I would like to provide my own dialup services across the nation if the cost is justible.
Here is what I want to do:
1. Buy a remote access server (RAS) with hundreds of modems in it. The RAS will have multiple T1/PRI/T3 interface cards in it depending on which one I get.
2.Place the RAS in a Houston, TX datacenter.
3. Get voice services from a carrier that can deliever multiple T1/PRI lines (or a T3). I would want a local DID or phone number in hundredes of locations across the nation. When a number is called, it would be rerouted back to the Houston, TX PRI/T1/T3 connections WITHOUT ANY LONG DISTANCE CHARGES.
Is this possible without paying an arm and a leg for it? Can anyone give me any recommendations besides stay with a wholesale dialup provider.

I've never purchased a dedicated server before, so I was wondering on what some of the more experienced members here thought.
This server I'm getting needs to be able to run VoIP (all details below), and maybe some E-commerce Software.
Details on what I need :
Two IBM Xeon+ servers having 2 GB RAM 250 GB HDD with fedora core 4 installed and live ip(public Ip) on those two boxes.
2Mbps direct line in one server.
Both boxes Should be in local LAN.
Would you recommend a Core2Duo server over the Xeon+ ?

If I visit my own public IP address, it won't show Apache from the computer running it. If I visit the private IP (http://192.168.1.102/) I can see it fine.
If I enter the private IP of the computer it is on, I can connect to it through internet explorer on a different computer in the network. When I visit my public IP, I get "page cannot be displayed".
Setup:
Modem (bridged) cable goes into VOIP box.
Cable from VOIP box goes into router.
Cables from router go into computers on network.
The IP address of my router is currently 192.168.1.1
The private IP of the computer running Apache is 192.168.1.102
I have forwarded port 80 (the apache port) on my router
Here are screenshots of my VOIP box (linksys) and router (dlink) admin pages: ....

I am looking to setup a voip CLEC business (basic voip services only). I already have a softswitch class 5 running on dedicated server in a Data center.
But unfortunately, that data center would not allow T1s connection to ILEC.
My questions are:
1. what is the best top 3 data centers that can offer dedicated voice servers and cross connect to ILEC in NJ-PA-NY area?
2. Any recommendations of certain services/experts that I can consult them about this kind of project and/or may assist in doing the paperwork associated with all filing requirements, ILEC negotiations, etc..?
3. Any resources for direct information that can help me with understanding this business, help in setting up this kind of service and run it etc..?

We have our main cluster in Atlanta, Georgia, USA and intend to keep it there.
However our customers in Malaysia are not able to connect reliably to that server. They have up to 30% packet loss.
I want to get a server that can sit in the middle and just port-forward between Malaysia and the USA. This needs to be just a low-cost linux vps server as it is doing very little.
Does anyone know of a provider that has good links to the USA and to South East Asia who can provide a server like this?

I have a small project that I am going to be doing for a client and I am in the need for a small linux (centos) vps, 128mb (would like to have a burstable amount too) ram.
Storage really isnt a issue, dont need more than a couple GB's. Looking to find something around $15 USD. I would prefer the location to be in Japan, but I am pretty much open to anywhere in East Asia.

so say you have a web site that's uses PHP and MySQL and then your visitors are mostly from Asia and some from the US.
You get a server from a Singaporean datacenter for the Asian traffic and you also get a server in the US for the US and nearby countries traffic.
Both servers will use the same domain. It's just that it will automatically redirect you to the datacenter which is nearer to you so if your from Asia then you will be redirected to the Singapore datacenter otherwise to the US datacenter.

I'm starting a B2B site which the primary market would be in Asia.
Should I have my server in Asia or US? I would like to get some advise/recommendation for:
- Where should I setup my server at? (especially if going forward I will have customers all over the world too, not just Asia)
- Any dedicated hosting server in Asia that is reliable?
- Will Amazon EC2 fit my situation?
but I heard, their initial configuration and maintenance is pretty complicated (and not reliable too)
Most of the US based hosting offering pretty huge package and atractive price, unlike their counterpart in Asia.
I almost signup with MediaTemple (dv) sevice, but then I realize that they don't have any network in Asia, and I'm just concerned about latency/download speed, etc.
I know their service is good in the US, but not sure if it's used in Asia.
any comment for skynethosting.net, theplanet, hostsg, or MediaTemple with the usage in Asia?

I'm working with an NGO and we have sites dedicated to companies in Afghanistan and East Timor -- need to reach people inside those, and neighboring, countries. We have our headquarters in North America and donors scattered around the world.
Have been trying to identify good providers in Asia, but am finding very little. In an ideal world we'd have servers in N. America and Hong Kong or Singapore (or India?).

I have partners down in Dallas, Tx. that are deciding on whether or not they want to go with "ThePlanet" datacenter. But, we just want to know before purchasing any or keeping any servers there that the datacenter is fully equipped with 24/7 monitoring, fire safety, flood safety, backup generators, etc. We're thinking of leasing 2 servers there, and we just need to know some details before going on. Now, I know there's all that information on the website and I've done alot of research on them, but I want to know from WHT's first-hand experience of ThePlanet is any good.
So, if you've used ThePlanet datacenters, can you please help me out. I'm highly suggesting ThePlanet as one of the datacenters I might use. Because it's located in Dallas, TX. it would be alot easier to co-locate the server, or check up on it once and a while or sort out any problems, etc.
Please leave a message of your first-hand experience with this datacenter.
