View 6 RepliesI have searched for prevention methods and explanations on what DoS's and DDoS's are capable of. I was hoping someone could shed some light on free alternatives that would help reduce these attacks or help to make me aware if one were to occur.
Linux Distro: CentOS 5.3
I am not running apache or any web related services on my machine.
I run a dedicated server for the sole purpose of hosting a few game servers. I have already contacted my provider and they offered a $599 /mo plan for prevention. This is unreasonable and I simply cannot afford it. I have been threatened with a DDoS because one of my administrators banned a player constantly creating drama, stress, and breaking rules.
I simply cannot afford a gigantic bandwidth bill and this scare tactic has made me a little weary. Is there anything I can do to reduce the damage?
My host has told me that my forum is coming under a DDOS attack. Once was on Friday March 20th and again today (monday march 23). Before those two, there are attacks almost every week, sometimes twice a week.
The host installed DoS-Deflate. It started blocking legitimate traffic and had to be removed.
The operating system is Linux CentOS, the forum software is VBulletin. The server is a VPS with 1 gig of memory.
Besides DoS-Deflate, what other options are out there?
I have a VPS from hostforweb.com , and my vps every week under ddos attack and 80-150 connection login to apache...
how can i prevention from ddos attack?
my server is being ddosed and the network utilisation is at 40% of 1gpbs
i asked to softlayer to check and they said my programs/services is taking that much bandwidth
any1 can help me?
if my server is under dos attack wat can i do?
because the bandwidth used is about 50gb/hr
"Benefits of the SoftLayer Public Network Structure - Cisco Guard DDOS Protection"
What this really mean?
This means that softlayer has DDOS protection for all dedicated server they host? So, why do I need services like gigenet and proxy shield?
It means that softlayer is able to handle small attacks only? or what?
I know that I should contact them to have a quote and I will contact them tomorrow, but, just to have an idea, how much it will cost me DDOS protection with gigenet? 100 USD? 1k? 10k?
I would like to know what are the best ways in preventing a UDP D/DoS Attack. DDoS-Deflate and most programs like that are just for TCP connections, and most of the time only for port 80. What is the best option out there for protection (linux wise) for UDP attacks. I was using shorewall before but it did not do so well so I just switched now to CSF [url] with WebMin and seems to be working ok. Even though thoes are both firewalls, they seem to have some protection against UDP Attacks. Please note this is a server that just hosts some game servers, no webhosting. What would be my best option here?

View 10 Replies View Relatedi am seeing a lot of Local file inclusion (LFI) and mysql injection attacks quite often directed to php scripts.
what is the way to prevent them? would installing mod_security to apache work?
if anyone knows a script that is url rewrite mods that can fix this hotlink issue by having the link url change every 20 minute.
View 2 Replies View Relatedone of my clients seems to be attracting unwanted attention, it seems as if bots or something along those lines are attempting to exploit my box, while they are unsuccessful it would seem. I was wdonering if there was a rule I could put in Mod_Security that would ban them for attempting to
GET "/awstatsf/logger.php?action=log&type=Hybrid&host=hacked101&"
I recently initiated "Hot Link Prevention" on one of my web sites on my Dedicated server (via CPanel). It woks well in re-directing hotlinked images to a small image that says "Unauthorized Hotlink Image." This of course prevents other web sites from leaching my bandwidth. However, I have had a number of people complain that when they visit my forum, they don't get my site's images, but instead see the Unauthorized Hotlink Image. The common thread seems to be the people with the problem are using Security Software. In one case, a guy is using Norton Confidential. Another guy is using some Security software provided by his ISP. I'm guessing that this security software is somehow messing with the Referer in tehir browser and confusing my server into thinking the images are being hotlinked from some other site. Short of turning off Hot Link Prevention, does anyone have any suggestions to tell the folks...are there settings in their Security Software for example that will prevent the problem when they visit my site?
View 4 Replies View Relatedit's come under my attention that dragonara.net has been ddosing me today since morning from the ip:
194.8.75.229
What's so ironic about it is that the ip is from a UK DDOS protection site so i'm expecting some email with their services in the next hour or so. Stay clear of them they are fakes and e-terrorists.
I am looking for some good ddos protection providers, via protected dns. I've searched on internet, but most of them are really expensive.
Please tell me some ddos protection providers what could help me.(gige is too expensive btw).
And I found some ddos protection scripts. How can a script protected a server from ddos? A sript like CSF or DDoS deflate?
which company in terms of reliability, support, and mostly network (as I see it, SL and FDC have similar networks) is the best? Price isn't a real issue here .

Does anyone know of any hosters that are reselling servers from The Planet or Softlayer (or anyone else is Texas that I've missed)
If I have to choose between ThePlanet and SoftLayer for a dedicated server which will be used for Shared Hosting, which one should I choose?
View 14 Replies View RelatedMy clients in LA - those on AT&T and Time Warner in paticular - are having bad download speeds from my server with Softlayer. Anyone else having similar trouble? Clients who normally get 500-700kb/s down are getting < 50 kb/s down, even early in the morning when the total traffic on my 100mbps port is under 1.5mbps.
Basically, east coast is fine, and anyone with a T1 in LA is fine as well - it's just DSL and Cable modems in LA that are screwed up. In fact, one of our are clients is using Apple Remote Desktop to connect to a remote client with a T1; it's faster to through Time Warner, then VPN to Verizon, and then connect Softlayer and back again than to go directly from Time Warner to Softlayer, which is really weird.
i want to know if softlayer will fit my needs?
1) i want to use svn
2) i will only host about 3 small-ish sites with images and maybe one cast-control.
has any used them and what is there up-time like.
I was thinking of buying a new server from SoftLayer When this company called WebNX.com happened to catch my attention.
I did a search of WHT but could not find much about WebNX. I also went to their site (but not much info is published there like SLAs, support fee etc etc...
However, the custom quite they sent me sounds quite reasonable compared to softlayer.
Anyone who can share experience of hosting with webnx? or has more info webnx.com and can share their views will be nice.
We push out a lot of data from our customers a month. So i was wondering which one is better? ThePlanet or Softlayer?
View 14 Replies View RelatedHiVelocity VS. SoftLayer
Which one is better overall?
Uptime, support, pricing, etc.
A Xeon Quad Core 2.4 Ghz, 4 GB Ram and 2x250 GB HDD, cpanel/Fantastico and 10 MBPS shared Port,
With softlayer current promotion, I get it for 224$
With Burst.net reseller - I get it for $180
So is paying $44 more and going with softlayer worth? or is Burst network as good as softlayer?
For those who are still under the softlayer hacker abuse please note you will need to re-load your server. We got hit a 2nd time after thinking everything was clean. Anyhow, for those who got hit again, my team and another from WHT - forgot who made the original clean.php script...
anyhow, here is a tool to clean all the data for all of your users:Copy fixit.pl and clean4.php to a directory. IE: /home/yourusername
Change username "changeme" in fixit.pl to the username where clean4.php is located
execute fixit.pl: IE: perl fixit.pl. If you want to test this on one user uncomment the die statement. When you are ready to do the entire server comment the die statement.
fixit.pl (perl script) Author: Robert Saylor
#!/usr/bin/perl$config{'basepath'} .....
In general, which of those is the best in hardware and bandiwdth, and in support?
View 14 Replies View RelatedWe have being Softlayer for few month now since around 09/04/2008.
We got the server at first for high bandwith client until he could get is server upgrade completed as he colo's is server elsewhere need a temp solution we no longer host is site but still kept server for other clients after all SL did for us we would never think of leaving.
We deployed site and then we ran into problems server seemed become unresponsive after a few hours.
We explained this to SL and did chasis swap and got us back online but problem remained and did not charge for os reload or chasis and even upgrade connection to make sure we not bottlenecks stoping from serving content.
After they started looking apache and using information for original server config had at other datacenter and found solutions that solved issues.
Billing dept and support dept as being of great assistance when needed them.
Overall we very pleased with SL and would not look elsewhere for quality provider and pricing for what we are getting is very reasonable.
What are your overall comparisons -- HiVelocity vs. Softlayer.
I thinking to buy new servers and now I checking offers on softlayer and dedicatedNow and look like prices on softlayer are higher and also dedicatedNow offer is for managed servers...
In this moment I have few servers with softlayer and all working fine but price...I don`t know nothing about DedicatedNow...what you think SL vs DN?
if someone who has used both the providers could help me decide between the two.
I need an unmanaged server and location for both is fine for me.
