Compatibility Issues With 64-bit OS

Aug 27, 2008

Are there any issues I should concern about if I am using 64-bit OS?
I mean like compatibility issues with apache, MYsql, Exim or other cpanel applications! Or security scripts like firewall or mod_security etc….. With 64-bit

should I tweak something? Or it’s ok to used same configurations like the old days with 32-bit? .......

FreeBSD Linux Compatibility

Jul 2, 2007

I have some linux binaries that I would like to run on a FreeBSD.

Now I understand that there is a linux compatibility layer to run these programs. If I am correct this is not an emulator, therefore there is no performance lost. Is this correct?

I want to run FreeBSD on an opteron server. There is a AMD64 version of FreeBSD, and there are also AMD64 versions of the binaries I want to run. If possible I would like to run the AMD64 versions in order to get better performance from the Opterons. Will the compatibility layer still work fine, or will it be converting to 32 bit processing, or even just giving an error?

Fedora Core 6 Compatibility

Oct 1, 2007

I have bought a
PowerEdge 2900 Quad-Core Xeon E5345 2.33 Ghz Processor
2GB FB 667MHz Memory
146 GB SAS hard drive
PERC 5/i integrated RAID Controller Card

I have installed Fedora Core 6 on this. But somehow it fails to work.It keeps hanging anytime anywhere.

Can anybody help me know whether this is compatible with each other?

I tried closing some services and work it,but the attempt was in vane.

I have googled alot over this and cant get it worked.

I also tried to install from different CDs,but no luck.

ASUS P5VD2-VM Compatibility

Jan 28, 2007

I have an ASUS P5VD2-VM motherboard here, and i'm pretty sure i've narrowed it down to being the problem. Let me give you some background to start off with..

I've tried installing:
FreeBSD 6.1-RELEASE-i386 (with p4 chip), aswell as 6.2
FreeBSD 6.1-RELEASE-amd64 (with Pentium D 820), aswell as 6.2
XP Professional SP2 (with p4 chip)

All three installations invoke a hard-reboot (FreeBSD- last thing I see is hard drive information related...XP- Right after the EULA, to continue to hard drive partitioning).

I changed the chip from an Intel Pentium D 820 (dual-core), to a regular Pentium 4 Prescott 3.2GhZ, thinking that the dual core was making FreeBSD go all goofy...apparently that’s not the case.

I'm kind of stumped as of what to do now. It seems to be like either the IDE/SATA controller is cooked, or there is just something wrong with this main board. I tried disconnecting my SATA hard drives, and installing on an IDE hard drive without luck.

AMD AM2 Motherboard Linux Compatibility

Jul 2, 2007

I have tested the Asus M2N-MX motherboard on CentOS 5, the first 10 worked very well, zero problems and very stable.

My next 10 somehow did not work at all, after speaking to asus techs, I had to stick a 512MB ram module (which does make the motherboard work) and update the bios. Now the 1GB kingston ddr2 modules work fine.

Installed centos, and then to find out that every time the server gets rebooted, ALL eth0 settings are lost. I tested debian on it and same story! The nic is found, but debian is assigning/detecting new MAC's for the nic all the time.

The weird thing is the first batch is working very good!

I have wasted countless hours in trying to get this second batch working with no luck. I am looking to get the gigabyte GA-M61PM-S2 with RTL8211 nic. Anyone who was able to get this one running with centos without any problems?

Xcache 1.2.2 Compatibility Whit Zend Optimizer 3.3.0

Jan 4, 2008

i´m trying to install xcache to test it on my VPS i have Zend Optimizer 3.3.0.
One of the problems i´m having is this one

PHP Fatal error: [Zend Optimizer] Zend Optimizer 3.3.0 is incompatible with XCache 1.2.1 in Unknown on line 0

And the xcache not being placed on phpinfo.
I try the fix seen in this topic (last 2 post), but didn´t work for me
[url]

There was a tech trying to install xcache but was not possible for him, another one told me that they are incompatible (xcache whit Zend Optimizer), and another one advice me that they are compatible.
