Cisco Re-certification/IOS Upgrades

Sep 21, 2009

On used equipment (for example, 6509s), is there any possibility of getting IOS upgrades from Cisco? Is there any sort of re-certification process? My only concern with used equipment is that often times the firmware is years old.

Affordable PCI Certification

May 12, 2009

Does anyone know of a firm that offered PCI certification for a low price (something in the ballpark of $200-300)? I have Google'd it and turned up companies charging $1500-5000 per year, which is retarded.

I have already run a PCI compliance scan from Comodo and came back clean, so I would like to get the certification done

SAS 70 Certification How Much Does It Cost And What Is Involved

Mar 20, 2008

We were asked by a couple of potential customers for SAS70 certification. Before researching google I though I post this in this forum and see if any body has any idea about what is involved. So specifically here are my question:

1. Is it hard to become SAS70 certified?

2. How much of expense should we be looking at?

3. Are there any companies or outsourced who can help to get it done?

Plesk Automation :: APS Packages - Import - Certification?

Feb 4, 2014

since upgrading PPA, I noticed that in the External Applications section, all the APS packages have a column "imported" and "certification" - what these are/mean?

I hit "import" on the wordpress package - but what it is doing and why it would be to our advantage to import an APS package, rather than have them externally hosted so they're always the latest version.

Upgrades

Jun 21, 2007

ive got a one of my personal sites - (a fairly mysql heavy chat community that works on mobile phones aswell) and its running on a cheap dedicated server

the specs of the server at the moment are -

celeron 2.0GHz
512mb ram
120gb ide disk
1500gb bandwidth
linux centos 4 no control panel

now i never come close to using my bandwidth so thats fine.
but ive noticed when i had around 30 members online last night the server load spiked at about 3.5 so im wondering if anyone can suggest what would be the best thing to upgrade to reduce load.

im currently running apache serving the dynamic files and lighttpd hosting images on a different port. using php 4.4.7 with eaccellerator. mod_gzip is enabled in apache due to a need to reduce the size of pages as much as possible.

the ram and disk usage is as below

BurstNET Upgrades

Sep 17, 2008

Just got the email:

BURSTNET Network Maintenance Advisory - Saturday, September 20th, 2008 - 2AM-4AM EST WINDOW

BurstNET™ Network Engineering will be performing maintenance in our Scranton facility during the hours of 2AM and 4AM EST on Saturday, September 20th, 2008. At this time, BurstNET™ Network Engineering will be performing a significant upgrade/replacement of our existing network infrastructure. This upgrade will involve removing/replacing our older/out-dated core Cisco™ GSR & Extreme Summit™ routing/switching equipment, with newer state-of-the-art Cisco™ 6500-series routing/switching equipment, and implementing a new network design---allowing for easier upgrade, higher fault-tolerance, additional capacity, and extra redundancy.

This maintenance will be service affecting, however, we expect the overall network downtime to be 30 minutes or less, during the 2-hour maintenance window, with the majority of that occurring at the start of the work...as equipment and cabling is changed. There will also be momentary periods of higher than normal latency while circuits are re-routed, BGP updated/reloaded, and cabling switched, throughout the 2-hour maintenance window. Proper planning, configuration, and testing has been completed in advance of this maintenance period, in order to minimize as much as possible the overall time that will be service affecting.

This maintenance is necessary in order for further growth of the BurstNET™ network, as well as to implement additional redundancy into the network. This should also help resolve any latency and packet loss issues our clientele may have been experiencing in recent weeks. BurstNET™ has recently hired new Network Engineering staff, and this is the first step in several upgrades/modifications they will be making to the BurstNET™ network over the next 60-90 days, to expand reliability, increase capacity, install further redundancy, and increase performance network-wide.

We thank you for your patience and understanding with this necessary maintenance, as well as for your continued business!

Sounds like a pretty major upgrade (they've been upgrading a lot recently). Here's to more uptime and redundancy at BurstNET!

Lastly, a quick point to the army of Burst-haters out there: go check outages, BurstNET has had two great months for us (99.9%+ uptime). Stop hating .

FDC Network Upgrades - Comcast Etc

Jul 1, 2008

it looks like FDC is taking more pain than usual in terms of network upgrade, i see the network seems unstable till 5am and even now the sessions are getting lost, once in a while like once a hr, anyway this is not the reason i am writing this, but when did comcast become transit provider, i did a trace to UK for example and i see trace going through comcast and then hopping onto tiscali/level3, it looks to me like, comcast could be trying to even out (1:1) it;s carriers so that they get all inbound for free sort of and it;s upstream selling as a transit make money there. sort of, just a surprise to me at this point

VPS Provider Which Handles Upgrades Well

I'm specifically interested in a provider who is able to upgrade a VPS quickly, efficiently and on time, with no excuses and without "forgetting" things.

If you have experienced more than one upgrade with a provider which has been handled exceptionally well, please point me in the right direction.

Which Cisco Firewall?

We are looking to replace our existing WatchGuard Firebox's with a hopefully more reliable firewall from Cisco's range although I'm a bit lost when it comes to the different ranges.

Could somebody suggest a firewall that is capable of:

1: Both NAT & Drop-in (bridge) mode
2: Pretty low bandwidth requirements, no more than 10mbit/s traffic
3: SNMP Monitoring
4: High availability pairing

Cisco Guard

Apr 22, 2009

I see a lot of DDos related articles here at WHT. We've got hit multiple times by DDos and had to handle those attacks everytime with a different approach.

The largest one and the most well know one (we were in Times Mag, AP news, CNN, slashdot, you name it - just do a search about us on WHT) was Russian botnet cyberattack - we had to anaylyze netflow and then block everything on our edge routers, then on the firewall and then locally on the servers.

Since then we had number of other attacks, some of them we were not able to defend on the server level, while, as you can understand we can't do netwflow and manual intervention evey time somebody gets an attach.

We have very good scripts which allow to mitigate huge number of DDos attack, whet our scripts are finding attacking IPs and blocking them automatically - still some attacks could be blocked only on the router level.

I've read that Cisco Guard (I am interesed in 65xx version of it) suppose to mitigate DDos attacks in automatic mode.

LAN (192.168.1.0/255.255.255.0)

router 1 E0 192.168.1.45
Serial0 10.10.10.1

Which Cisco Router To Use

Jul 11, 2007

I am currently looking at these Cisco switches:

- Cisco 2924 WS-C2924-XL-EN Enterprise Switch
- Cisco 2950 WS-C2950-24 Catalyst Switch
- Cisco 3512 WS-C3512-XL-EN Enterprise Switch
- Cisco 3524 WS-C3524-XL-EN Enterprise Switch
- Cisco 3548 WS-C3548-XL-EN Enterprise Switch

1) I was recommended to chose the XL-EN model switches because it seems they have more Memory, but the second one in the list (Catalyst) is not a XL-EN, is that going to have any affect performance wise? or it doesn't really matter?

2) I was also recommended to choose managed switches because that way I can use the SNMP features to measure bandwidth, are any of the switches above unmanaged?

3) I also want to be able to manage the switch remotely, web managed, are any of the switches above web-manageable?

4) Most importantly, when my datacenter give me a 100mbit drop, I dont know which port to plug it in in the 29** series. In the 35** I see it clearly but I am not able to see it in the 29**, any ideas?

5) On some of these switches I see a special port called "Console", what is it? where does that connect to?

6) Do any of the switches above not have a console port?

Cisco ASA Security

Sep 28, 2007

My network currently looks like this :

ISP ->> L3 Switch ->> Firewall (Transparent Mode) ->> Switch ->> Servers

I have a single /24 and my firewall is on x.2 and routes traffic for each of the servers.

Now i have a new Cisco ASA 5510 that i want to replace the aging firewall currently in place, however i dont want to put the firewall into transparent mode because i dont want to lose all the functionality.

Now with most firewalls your outside subnet cannot be the same as your inside subnet, which is fine if you are using NAT but i dont want to NAT. I need all of my servers to remain with their public ip addresses.

So what is the ideal way to setup something like this? Request my ISP give me a /30 for the ASA outside interface or something? And then ask them to route my /24 through the /30 new subnet?
