Bandwith Quota Maxed With 24k Page Views In 9 Days

Its been about 9 days since I launch new site.
75gb BW (bandwith) is used up. 24,000 page views so far.
Now I check and I am over the BW limit by at least 30gb.
I have to pay 50 cents additional for each gb.
Continuing the increasing bw spikes I realize it is not economically viable continuing for now, considering what I pay for original package.
The site has been down for at least 24 hours. My budget is rather tight at the moment being a student with full time loan. I did not realize VPS would continue even though bandwith limit has been reached.

I'm on a low-end dedicated server that I run 2 decent sized blogs on. I'm getting several traffic spikes a day where the load goes through the roof and I think I need my server optimized.
My server admin says I need a bigger server and he has never steered me wrong but this is ridiculous:
My blogs use Wordpress as its blogging platform....I know they hog server resources and I've recently installed Super cache so that seems to help.
I average about 5,000 pageviews a day and I would think even a low-end box should handle this but maybe I am wrong.

By shared plan I mean affordable $8 per month shared plans offered by most cheap hosting providers.
By using wordpress without wp-cache plugin, what's the maximum daily pageviews / page refreshes a shared plan can handle? I mean, in terms of CPU load, before having to upgrade to a VPS plan or sth.
Can anyone give me an approx figure? I'm thinking, if you got 1 visit every 3 seconds, it's 28800 pageviews a day? Any shared plan can handle that right? No other crazy stuff at all, just one domain on wordpress with pure text posts.
I know things vary host by host, but can you give me your own estimation on this?

I have a customer who is having trouble with his account and would like to help him out. He has a VPS from a totally different provider and his Bandwidth usage is 20x normal.
In his awstats, the internal page views is showing a huge number of views to totally different domain names such as Yahoo.com etc
Has anyone ever dealt with this before or have any experience with what it is and how to stop it?

I have had over 4 different VPS providers and in all of them, I was always using less than 5 gigs and most of it is from the OS and the VPS files, my website is less than 400 megs of size including the backups. For some reasons, my Disk Quota is at 8.3 gigs and it was at 8.2 gigs yesterday. My website's files are not that big and the Database is like 30 megs and the backups are compressed so they are like 4 megs. The problem is that I really don't know what files are making my Disk Quota to go up since I haven't uploaded anything or download files to my VPS.

I cannot trace where the usage is coming from. There is only one account on this box using 26GB. Its a centos/cpanel box. I checked /var/log and had already deleted audit.d directory. /usr/local/apache/domlogs and logs show almost nothing.

I upgraded to Plesk 9.2.1 and found that between the security upgrades they moved all the contents of /usr/local/psa/handlers to tmpfs, the problem is that I have a small swap file ( about 500 MB ) so all thos folders got inside that space, so far I´ve managed to make the tmpfs more than twice the original size, but mounted points ( /usr/local/psa/handlers/spool ) remains at the same size of 500 MB any idea how can I make this larger?

I have been receiving these a couple time a day lately and not sure what to do or how to go about checking what might be overloading the server. IF this looks familiar to anyone, I'd appreciate some helpful tips. I'm still a novice, but can muddle my way around the server if given enough guidance. Here is the email I've been getting:
"IMPORTANT: Do not ignore this email.
This is cPanel stats runner on host.myserverhost.com!
While processing the log files for user xxxxxxx, the cpu has been maxed out for more than a 6 hour period. The current load/uptime line on the server at the time of this email is
19:20:10 up 2 days, 7:06, 0 users, load average: 15.17, 13.24, 8.00
You should check the server to see why the load is so high and take steps to lower the load. If you want stats to continue to run even with a high load; Edit /var/cpanel/cpanel.config and change extracpus to a number larger then 0 (run /usr/local/cpanel/startup afterwards to pickup the changes)."
I guess my question is, how would I go about determining what is causing the excess load? Seems to happen even when not many folks are on my site.

It's been hard finding a host here in Oz that can compete on price with US hosts, but I've just stumbled on hostess.com.au and their fees and offerings seem way too good to be good, if you know what I mean. Has anyone had experience with them?

I opened a ticket on my last day and asked if I can move it from 14 months (that I started with) to a 6 months renewal because I could'nt afford to pay the £74 they wanted, and apologised for this. They said I'd have to pay the 74 pounds first and then change my billing to 3 or 6 months.....
I replied saying can I then pay a sum now and a some next week. as I don't have that with me at the moment but wednesday 9th April I wil be able to remew it all
They replied with:
"Hello Ahmed
there is 14 days grace period for customers before account gets suspended."
So I thanked them very much, because like that, instead of paying in installments, I can just pay them the whole amount before the grace period was over, otherwise I would've backed up my data and moved it another server, or on my computer till I remew the whole amount....
5 days later (today), I log on to my account, and it has been suspended as I hav'nt paid for 5 days...thats 9 days before the "grace period"
and now all my domains have this dirty suspended page that they have, and I bet I lost half my members and customers like this, as when I see this page on any domain I enter I never go back to it!
I say to my self its my falt, I should've paid when I had to.....but money was tight, and I told them....and they gave me the 14 days, I did'nt ask for anything, but I thought backing up all my sites and my webdriver that I have with them would take me ages, plus the pages have alot of content that would be a hassle, if I have a "14 days grace period".
This is the first time servage have lied to my face, and not by answering a question with yes or no, by saying a feature they have that does'nt exist and but wednesday I bet all my customers and members would've found somewhere else to hang out, as I only contacted them through the mail server on the site and my forum, now I can't even right "we will be back soon....don't go away",
I thought I warn you guys about this grace, if you have an account with them make sure your ready to renew before it expires, and don't believe most of the stuff that they say.
OMG, I used to promote for these people, and tried hard to always say good stuff about them, you see my sig, it was a promotion for them with a coupon code (that I dredfully apologies about to the administration for not reading the rules properly), and I get in return a lie straight in my face with no warning and no way of accessing my database what so ever.
Just be warned Guys, don't believe everything they say to you and backup all the time because you never know why they suspend your account.....even if your on thew right track

After Cpanel update latest release version. I have issue with named.conf.
I tried to rebuild named. but..

fixrndc requires a syntactically correct /etc/named.conf.
No changes were made to /etc/named.conf.
Problem was:

I have a problem with my server. I am trying to make a subdomain, and it isn't working. I create it like how in all tutorials says here( click here ) . I completed all fields, but when i try to open the subdomain in a browser page, it's telling me, page not found / page doesn't exist. I have a dedicated server on window server 2008 for my website with a dedicated IP.

I am not sure if this is a dumb question or not but here it is anyway,
if there is a website and some of the images are hosted on a third party site (ie. photobucket), does the bandwith for those loaded from the third party site count as the sites hosting bandwith?
In my opinion I do not believe it does because it is making a call to the image on the other hosting server, but a friend of mine who manages a forum said that once the users started using more animated signatures that the site bandwith went up by almost 40%, but all signatures are hosted on other sites.

i launched my site 1 month ago on host gators shared hosting plan and grew very quickly, and now am going to pass the 2 TB limit any hour / day so im freaking out. I dont know what to do i need to find a hosting company that offers a lot of bandwith and moderate HD space i need somehwere around 4 TB a month bandwith and 100 GIG HD my budget is from 100 -150 dollars a month.
Also i was approached by someone offering colocation services to host my files on their services is this good as well i have no idea? my site is a music sharing website where people upload and listen to music.

I'm planning to ugrade the ram to 4gb at 300.00 one time extra.
They claim Free 24 hr On-Site Support so I called them up last night at 3:30am their time and did get a technition on the line.
They also refer to themselves as being "fully managed" and describe in detail what that means in their faq.
Their BW is unmetered and unshared
10mbps = 3,285 gigs/mo
or
4mbps 1,314 gigs/month burstable to 100 mbps
going over this limit the charge is 49.00 for each 328.5 gigs
So because I'm a start up and have no idea what will be required in terms of BW. here is the question
If I had a limit on uploads of 200 mb and the average size of the videos being downloaded were 20 mb how many people could be online at the same time?
I'm not even sure if that's the right way to look at it.

Right now my stats system only shows from what website traffic is coming. I have google analytics aswell, and with all its functions, it does not tell me from exactly what webpage traffic is coming, and to what webpage the traffic is coming to.
So, let say someone is sending me traffic from www.reffererxxx.com/cool_video.html to www.mysite.com/super_cool_video.html
My statistics would only show that www.reffererxxx.com is sending traffic to www.mysite.com
Is there a way(a script/service/program) to find out exactly from what webpage the traffic is coming, and to what webpage of mine the traffic is going to?
(I do not have server logs / webalizer / awstats as my server cannot handle the log processing due to high server loads)

My site is on forumotion right now. I want to move it and have it hosted somewhere. It is a local Mustang club. I have read all the problems with the oversold sites. I have also looked at others. The big issue is i dont rally know how much space I need. This is the site southshorestangs.com. What it will have is that forum and probably a few webpages. It is still only a month old so it will keep growing hopefully. i just dont want to get way more than I will need.

i see that there is 84/month and a 119/month VPS, which offer burstable 100mbps unmetered...i also heard they use shared line.
so what is the max bandwith that i can really push in a month ? i am okay with users loading the site @ 100kb/s, especially because the site has lot of videos through flash player, and 100kb/s or even 50kb/s sounds good.
if there are anyone that can beat FDC than please refer me to them!

moving away from PRTG, and go to something that is equivalent on a unix* distro. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm looking for something nearly identical to Paessler's product with mutiple sensors, and assigned users, coupled with 95th and GB billing via snmp. Im currently with host gator and have nothing but amazing things to say but i have a music streaming website and its eating up bandwith like crazy but at least the cpu usage of the shared hosting is not that high but i will definitley pass my 2 terabyte mark within the month. My question is even on the dedicated hosting plans on host gator they still dont offer a lot of bandwith so does anyone know any very reliable and good companies that offer a LOT of bandwith for a moderate price. I was looking at liquid web dedicated which offers 3 terabytes as i hear their super reliable and professional

I have a dedicated server with godaddy. Yesterday it went down. I sent a trouble ticket to their support. In 4 hours I got reply saying that everything is fine and server is just experiencing high bandwith. I was able to login to control panel (which is available through different IP address, and I have noticed that my usual 8 gigs a day bandwidth increased to 160 a day for yesterday. I cannot SSH to my server. I cannot access my website via http. I cannot FTP to my server. I cannot do anything. I have submitted another ticket and waiting fro reply.
Any suggestions? Is this an attack? (I feel it is, but not sure) What kind of attack can bring server down, if I have CISCO firewall installed? I am little upset with godaddy, because so far, my server has been down for over a day. Any providers out there, who are more rapid in terms of helping their customers? FYI: I pay them $150 a month.

There is a only 1 image that is linked (not embedded) and have a sike 8133 byte. Image is online.
