I have a script that will create a compressed backup file of my website files as well as a compressed backup file of my mysql databases.
What I want to do is create a script that will site on my external hard drive that will be connected to the internet and would have it automattically connect to my webhosting account (via ssh or ftp) and download the specifid backup files everyother day. My goal is to be able to have a backup file on my local hard drive here in case anything happens to the backups that are already saved to another webhosting server.
If someone hacks my server (Softlayer) and delete everything (including the backups)- does that mean I will lose everything? Is there any way to have an external backup which is not accessible?
I have the following RewriteRule directive in my htaccess file on my localhost:-
Code: RewriteRule ^([a-z-]+)/?$ test.aspx/app.nav/params.class.com${meta:$1}/whatever${meta:$1} The rewrite rule works perfectly, since the revised URL is still preserved when after it is executed; I presume this is since my old URL is relative, and it's performing an internal rewrite.
However, when I make my old URL absolute (adding an external address to it), whenever I execute my new URL, I'm redirected to the external sites URL (which includes the same URL parameters as my internal 'test.aspx' page), like below:-
Code: RewriteRule ^([a-z-]+)/?$ http://www.example.com/test.aspx/app.nav/params.class.com${meta:$1}/whatever${meta:$1} Purely for demo purposes, upon execution, I'd like my new URL to be preserved in the address bar whilst, I'm redirected to the external site.
Is this possible to do - something like forcing the behaviour of an internal rewrite?
EDIT: I've done some investigating and people with similar problems have suggested using the Passthrough handler - although I'm slightly unclear as to what this does exactly, I gave it a go (adding '[PT]') at the end of RewriteRule, but unfortunately this didn't make any difference.
Is their a script that you can schedule to run as a cron to backup your public_html folder to a dir on the server then have it email u a download link?
I have several servers and i want to provide at my servers a continuos backup data protection and disaster recovery backups to a off-site location using R1Soft software.
So does anyone knows any good and reliable company who provides the service off making backups from external servers using R1Soft?
I have been looking around and until know i found:
The Planet - Here i can buy any kind of server and havint installed with R1Soft for a extra cost of 50$
SteadFast - Here i can rent a full managed backup service using Steadfast Off-Site R1Soft CDP Backups described at: [url]
am hosting with servage most such hosts dont provide backup for ur files in case ur moving to other host so i was wondering if i can manually through FTP download my enitre directory including all files (html, jpg, PHP SCRIPTS) and manually reupload them onto the other host i will move to soon will that actually work
and for MySql databases i have created a PROPER backups via their auto backup system they only lack backup for the files itself only, MySql is fine
will restoring the MySql databases but via a different control panel (CPanel) will it possible?
The data centre which I use, is moving all collacated servers to a brand new data centre next week, which will mean a two hour downtime for each of my servers and customer websites.
At the moment my servers utilise two nameservers on seperate servers and when the move happens all websites will be offline with an ugly error message to any visitors.
Does anyone know a good way to setup a page which would be displayed if the web server was down? I am using MS DNS.
My thoughts so far is
1. Setup a 3rd nameserver which is off site from the data centre.
2. Purcahse web hosting / vps for a month on a seperate hosting company
3. Set it up so that it accepts * to a specific IP address in IIS or apache
4. I create an index.php script which gets the host header value sent i.e. [url]and the page then displays a nice maintenace i.e
"We are sorry joeblogs.com is currently down for maintenace, we will be back online shortly".
I think my main question is do I need to setup a 2nd www record in DNS for each site and how do I ensure the 2nd dns (backup record) only gets used when the first website / server is down.
I moved from a host to another and wanted to restore/use the email adresses that are already saved on my old host account.
I did a full backup by using Cpanel's wizard and saved it on my computer. Extracted everything and then by using FTP I have put all the files on my new server which is using Cpanel as well.
Although all email adresses are now visible in my Cpanel the old passwords will not work anymore......
When you delete a site backup from its "Backup Manager" Panel, it is removed and no longer displayed in the Panel. However, I cannot tell if this action actually does anything with the real site backup files in "/var/lib/psa/dumps". Does this action merely remove it from PSA's database but not touch any actual files? If this is true, then how are site backup files supposed to be managed if this action doesn't actually delete them?

Does anyone know of a provider that has an Ubuntu Desktop VPS? I've got accounts with fsckvps and xensmart but they only have centos ones - I'll install gnome on of them if I really have to but i'd prefer todo as little leg work as possible as it's for personal use.
This is a little bit Offtopic here but maybe it's okay to ask my question.
For my GUI software development i need a virtual server solution. It must run WinXP, WinVista, LinuxI386, LinuxAMD64, FreeBSDI386, FreeBSDAMD64 and Solaris.
I'm currently running VMWare with all this systems. But their KVM tools are very instable - especially when waking up from hibernate etc. They eat the key/mouse focus and the only way to get any reaction is often a hard shutdown.
How good are the other Virtualization Kits? I heared that FreeBSD does not work on VirtualBox? I'm especially interested in Xen but i'm not sure if this is good for Desktop use. Seems that it is promoted almost exclusively as a server solution.
I am a CS major in college and new to these forums. I wanted to start by saying Hi and asking if anyone has used Spiceworks (spiceworks dot com) and had any complaints/praises? Also, are there any paid alternatives to the product and how do they match up against it.
Id like to know if I could use a remote desktop ( remotely ) as I have about 350msec latency to the server where I am planning to install it. I am planning to use remotely anywhere server .
The directions I recieved were "Please use remote desktop to connect to your server."
So I entered the ip address into the remote desktop connection window and it doesn't connect. Where do I go from here? I searched and can't find any relevant info.
I signed up for a Win2k3 VPS account with 3dgwebhosting. I'm a newbie to Plesk and win2k3 so I spent the first day getting head around Plesk.
I then logged into Remote Desktop only to find someone else had beat me. They'd hacked in and downloaded a mass email client, email stripper and obviously sent out spam from a 2mb text file of email addresses.
I didn't spend long in Remote Desktop, but while there I switched on Windows Firewall, changed my admin login password and logged off. Now, 24 hours later, I can't get back in. I get the error - This computer can't connect to the remote computer. Try again.....
I can still login through Plesk, FTP and ExpressionWeb.
Is FW keeping me out of RD or has the hacker returned?
I am setting up xampp on my desktop and when at home, I can develop on either the desktop or my laptop using xttp://localhost/ or xttp://desktop/. When I suddenly need to travel, what's the best/easiest/fastest way to make sure I have the files I need to work with on my laptop?
Is it to install xampp on my laptop, and then copy the files I need from /xampp/htdocs over from the desktop? How would I copy the MySQL databases over as well?
I was also looking into Microsoft's SyncToy 2.0. When combined with scheduled tasks I can do automatic sychronizations once per day. Multiple times per day would be ideal... but I could set up pairings and do manual copying everytime I need to run out.
Are there better ways? I could install the 'master' server on my laptop, but I would prefer to keep it on my desktop (more space, more power, etc.)
