Apache :: Using Alias With HTAccess Files

Feb 20, 2013

Apache httpd Users mailing list, but nobody there has responded in several days. I'm using mod_alias to map URLs to directories that are outside of Apache's DocumentRoot. However, it seems that .htaccess files are being ignored in these directories.

Plesk 11.x / Linux :: Remove Domain Alias Warns It Will Delete All Related Files

Sep 2, 2013

I think the wrong text is displayed for the option "Remove Domain Alias".

In Plesk 11.5.30 Update #13, in a Webspace, on the Websites & Domains tab, if I click an alias, a window appears for the alias with the option to "Remove Domain Alias". If I move the cursor over the text "Remove Domain Alias", or click on the link, I see a pop-up: Removing this website will also delete all related files, directories, and web applications from the server.

I think this is incorrect because removing an alias should not remove any files, directories, and web applications.

Apache 2.0 Alias

Mar 31, 2007

I currently have the following in my httpd.conf:

Quote:

Alias /icons/ "/var/www/icons/"
<Directory "/var/www/icons">
Options Indexes MultiViews
AllowOverride None
Order allow,deny
Allow from all
</Directory>

Recently I have tried to add custom alias /volano/

Quote:

Alias /volano/ "/home/volano/vcclient/"

When I go to mysite.com/volano/ i get Forbidden error (error 403).

Why is that? I have CentOS 4.4-32.

My Apache version is 2.0

Apache :: 2.4.7 - Can't Get Simple Alias To Work

Jul 25, 2014

I'm using Apache 2.4.7 on Linux Mint 17.

Apache is currently working fine using an alias for one webserver, weewx. I had a heck of a time configuring the alias though, most configurations would result in a 404 error.

I'm trying to get it working with another webserver, IOG. And I'm again getting 404 errors...

Currently my IOG.conf file looks like this:

Code:
Alias /IOG /home/Storage/iog
<Directory /home/Storage/iog>
Options Indexes
AllowOverride None
Require all granted
</Directory>

/home/Storage/iog is good, it's the exact path and is readable/writable by all users.

Options Indexes is included because IOG does not generate an index.html.

AllowOverride None is included because I'm not using .htaccess files, and because it worked for the weewx configuration file.

Require all granted is used because I'm not serving this external to my LAN and would like all LAN machines to have access.

My (working) weewx configuration file:

Code:
Alias /weewx/ "/home/Storage/weewx/"
<Directory "/home/Storage/weewx/">
Options Indexes Includes FollowSymlinks
AllowOverride None
Require all granted
</Directory>

Of course I tried that first, modifying the paths to IOG, and got a 404 error.

I make sure to reload Apache each time I make a change to the configuration file.

Htaccess Files..

Jul 20, 2007

I have a directory on my web server that should not be accessible by default, the files in here are being included by php files outside the directory.. so quite simply, I need to protect the directory.

Now I don't want to protect it with a login, that's simply not needed, the directory and all the files in it should simply be inaccessible..

I don't know a whole lot about htaccess though, can anyone here tell me what to put in the .htaccess files to simply deny all access to the directory and if possible display a specific error message.

Use .htaccess File To Allow Access To Zip Files Only From My Script

Feb 18, 2007

I have download manager script that I use for my customers to download products right after the purchase.

Script generates download link that looks like this:

http://www.yourwebsite.com/download/...582921B&p=1840 (where 2YY6582921B is receipt number that is different with each purchase).

All products are placed in one folder. This folder can not be seen in above download url, but can be accessed thru browser and files can be downloaded that way without paying for them.

Can I use .htaccess and if yes how, to protect all product files the way that they can not be accessed directly by visiting url thru browser (in case somebody will find the correct url), they should be allowed for access only for my download manager script.

Wierd Htaccess Url Rewrite- Rewrites All Index Files

Apr 19, 2008

I have worked with mod_rewrite for years and never encountered this problem. I am converting html pages to a single php file and it works perfectly. I used htaccess the rewrite the urls to appear the same so that no links would be broken or lose SEO value.

The only problem is that my friend who also helped build the sites added different directories and within those directories are index.htm files that serve as a home page for the separate directory. Like /info/index.htm and /help/index.htm within the root directory. The problem is that for some reason my mod_rewrite directs to the main index.htm rewrite even if I include the whole path to the file. In htaccess I have this so far:

RewriteEngine on

RewriteRule index.htm$ index.php [L]
RewriteRule servers.htm$ index.php?action=servers [L]
RewriteRule movies.htm$ index.php?action=movies [L]
However there is a directory named "info" and inside that directory it has an index.htm file and it seems to conflict with my first mod_rewrite. I tried using:

RewriteRule /info/index.htm$ index.php?action=info [L]
and used other methods but none seem to work any ideas?

.htaccess Issue With Apache 1.3, But Works On Apache 2.2

Mar 22, 2008

I have the following Apache redirect code in .htaccess:

RewriteRule ^sap-latest-news/([0-9]*)/([A-Za-z0-9_-.]*).htm$ /domain.com/app/modules/content/latestNews.php?id=$1 [L]

This redirect works fine on Apache 2.2.8, but doesn't work on Apache 1.3.41

The following is the entry from error_log:
RewriteRule: cannot compile regular expression '^sap-latest-news/([0-9]*)/([A-Za-z0-9_-.]*).htm$'

A simple Rewrite is working fine in Apache 1.3, but the above regualar expression doesn't seem to be working on Apache 1.3. Does anyone know whether Apache 1.3 doesn't support it?

Set Apache Handler Through .htaccess - Possible?

Jun 2, 2007

I am running into a bit of a problem. Previously, I can add an apache handler through cPanel easily... but now I moved to mediatemplate.net and that feature isn't available on their contol panel. Since they also run apache, I figured that I can set the apache handler manually through an .htaccess file - is that possible? If so, what is the syntax that will enable me to set .html files to be handled like .php files?

There is one setback to this process - this will be a manually inserted file for every directory that I want to do the above stated file handler. Is there an easier way to do this via SSH? I don't have root access, only normal user access.

Apache :: URL Remapping With HTAccess

Jan 25, 2013

I have a directory of /flash/1.swf all the way to /flash/4000.swf on my hosting.I am trying with terrible luck to load the flash movies into the container on zomgflash dot com(avoiding possible spam) -- its all setup...it should be loading the movies...I think it's a mod_rewrite problem but I could be wrong...it's basically a clone of iwantmoar dot com(avoiding spam again) -- you'll notice when you type a number after the domain like /238 or /2898 that it loads up /flash/238.swf or /flash/2898.swf into the flash container on the iwantmoar website. That's what I'm trying to get my website to do.

I need them shown like [URL] .... in the address bar... and that would have index.php load up 1.swf in the container if that makes more sense.This is the contents of my .htaccess from my relentless googling:

<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
Rewrite-engine on
RewriteRule ^([0-9]+)$ /index.php [PT]
</IfModule>
ErrorDocument 404 /index.php

Malformed Htaccess Kills Apache

Jun 13, 2007

Does anybody know any solution to prevent this?

Basically every customer can bring server down with malformed htaccess.

Is there any solution to prevent this?

This doesn't help:

<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine on
RewriteOptions MaxRedirects=5
</IfModule>

this htaccess causes problems:

<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule . /index.php [L]
</IfModule>

Apache :: Mass 301 Redirect HTAccess

May 11, 2013

I've not seen an answer for this mass 301 redirect issue specifically.. How to do this...

category/brand URLs:

redirect: /ID-some-brand (e.g. /43-religion-clothing or /26-ichiban) to: /some-brand (e.g. /religion-clothing or /ichiban)

Product URLs:

redirect: /some-category/ID-some-product-name.html (e.g. /mens-sweat-shirts/1543-ichiban-fairly-offensive-sweat-in-grey.html)

to: /some-product-name (e.g. /ichiban-fairly-offensive-sweat-in-grey)

We have 1,090 products and 60+ categories so some form of .htaccess trick would be amazing to know. What I could put in the .htaccess to accomplish this.

RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php?page=$1 [L,QSA]

What I want to do is this: The URL is like somedomain.sub.com/somepage/s1/s2The index.php is accessible from somedomain.sub.com/somepage/I want to send s1/s2 as $_GET['page']

Also, I don't want the URL in the address bar to change, only the url sent to the server should change. This worked well in my localhost, but on webserver (0fees.net), it doesn't work ...

Apache :: Write HTAccess File For A 301

Apr 15, 2013

I have learned some bits of regular expressions for simple scripting, writing a .htaccess file is, uh, syntaxically daunting.

THE CASE :

The URLs of my site used to be of the form [URL] ... . They are now of the form [URL]......

I am trying to perma-redirect (301) the old format (affiche_fiche.php) to the new format (fiche.php) using a .htaccess.

So far all I have achieved is a hatred of punctuation signs. What's the correct syntax to have a .htaccess that does the redirect ?

THE CONTEXT : The format change took place more than six months ago, but the Google Webmaster Tools still spits 450 problems a day with 404s on URLs using the old format. I had assumed that these would just fade away, but they don't. So I guess that 301'ing them is cleaner. Or would be, if I understood the syntax.
