Apache :: SSLCA Certificate File Per Directory Or Location
Sep 15, 2014
I understand that Apache documentation says that the SSLCACertificateFile directive is only valid in "server config" and "virtual host,"
[URL] .....
I would like to use a different CA bundle per-directory or location. Reason being is one directory is more strict than the other.

My basic VPS backup plan is to have WHM create a backup for me, save it somewhere on my local VPS, and then rsync it off site.
As a beginner with linux, I'm not sure where to have WHM put this file. Is there a recommended place to place this backup file -- it will only be there temporarilly, but I don't know a secure place to put it.
e.g. /home or should I create a new directory called /backups? (and if so -- once again, where in the directory tree do I put it?)

I am using a flash media player on one of my domains that streams music. The flash player would be like domain.com/music
The mp3 files are located in domain.com/music/mp3
The flash player just reads the title of the song and displays it in the media player.
I have used htaccess already to disable indexing, but the file name that shows on the media player is the exact name of the mp3, so I'm pretty sure people will be able to easily figure this out and start downloading our music.
What else can I add to htaccess to allow localhost access to the music, to stream with the flash player, but wont allow downloading of the mp3s.

I'm trying to recover a subdirectory from a full cpanel backup (tar file).
I placed the backup on the /home/<userdir>/
Then I listed the content of the tar file and the directory is in there:
backup-3.1.2006_11-36-43_userlin2/homedir/public_html/php/viacache/
I need to restore /viacache to the original location
Code:
tar -xvf backup-3.1.2006_11-36-43_userlin2.tar /public_html/php/viacache
response:
tar: /public_html/php/viacache: Not found in archive
also (absolute path)
Code:
tar -xvf backup-3.1.2006_11-36-43_userlin2.tar /home/userlin2/public_html/php/viacache
Not found in archive....

I was checking my error_log today and found thousands of 404 errors for these 2 files:
/flashtalking/ftlocal.html
/doubleclick/DARTIframe.html
I assume they are file requests made from ads on the site.
Right now I've just added those directories and files to appease the error logs, but can I fake their existence somehow without having to clutter up my file structure?

Until recently i had never used a Linux server, as i used to have a windows server. I now have a Linux VPS
I am now at my wits end with file permission problems
I use Joomla a lot for my websites, and i also develop and program many modules and components for it, but at the moment every time i upload a module (which is a zip file with php files that is put onto the server in the right place via php) it sets the ownership to "nobody" rather than the username so i cant access it via ftp, as it says you don't have permission or the file may not exist.
Is there anyway the server can be set so it will by default set the file to have an owner name that will allow ftp access to it without me having to learn SSH Putty (which is all i have done today) or contacting my hosting company every time?
I am spending more of my time with these permission problems than doing my work, it driving me barmy!

I had a problem that ip restrictions inside location didn't work. Config :
Code:
<Location /jkstatus>
JkMount status
Require ip 127.0.0.1
Require ip my_remote_netowrk_1/29
Require ip my_remote_netowrk_2/29
[Code] .....
In that case all IPs were allowed - just propted for login and password.
When i removed login/password part from location, IP restriction has start to work.
Code:
<Location /jkstatus>
JkMount status
Require ip 127.0.0.1
Require ip my_remote_netowrk_1/29
Require ip my_remote_netowrk_2/29
[Code] ....
What is wrong ? I would like to restrict access to this location for some IPs only and secure this area by password as well - even for allowed IPs.

Which protocol I should use for performing a backup of important server files and folders. I do make a snapshot but i found that's not enough.
My Centos 6.6 has ProFTPD configuration setup only for webhosts so no root access. I came across SCP, but don't know how to secure that like a Pro. I have also heard about SSHFS for linux.

How to be able to fix my problem that is related to the https using apache2 (enabling https in apache2) at opensuse:
By the way, my opensuse version is:
openSUSE 12.1 (x86_64)
VERSION = 12.1
CODENAME = Asparagus
1) At the /etc/apache2/vhosts.d/vhost-ssl.conf, and if I do not have a name (as the server will be accessed using its IP address), can I place in the ServerName 192.168.0.5? Do I have to place it 192.168.0.5:443 or it is enough to be 192.168.0.5?
2) Is there a relation between the SSLCipherSuite values and the used method to generate the certificate?
3) I am afraid from the way that I am using to generate the certificate and the ssl module that is coming with apache2 at my machine which has opensuse. How can I select the right way?
Actually I used following commands to generate the .crt, .key and the .csr:
openssl genrsa -des3
openssl req -new -x509
openssl x509 -req
And that was from this link: [URL] .... But did not work with me !
Meanwhile I am placing:
SSLCipherSuite ALL:!ADH:!EXPORT56:RC4+RSA:+HIGH:+MEDIUM:+LOW:+SSLv2:+EXP:+eNULL
4) Do I have to configure the virualhost? Do I have to create files under the directory /etc/apache2/vhosts.d? Because I will have one application to be browsed .. nothing more.

Just a question about hosting your site in the same country where your main targeted visitors is located. It is my belief that I should host my sites in the same country where I the targeted visitors are. Am I correct in saying this??
So..
US Focus Site should be hosted in the US
Canadian Focus Site should be hosted in Canada
And UK Focus Site would be hosted in the UK??????

I'm trying to prevent unnecessary GET requests from being processed by my CMS that originate from mutating IP address locations. This is sucking up server resources when the request is processed by the app, and so if possible, I'd like to block them with HTACCESS so that the request is stopped before anything is intensively-processed.
What happens is that an IP address will make a GET request for, say, "blah/test" or "blah/test2" but nothing else (no site assets like images or CSS/JavaScript files or even other pages). After this request, another IP address will then make an equivalent kind of request, and so on, and so on... All of them have similar if not identical user agent strings but they're always worthless requests that do nothing but waste CPU and RAM. I'm assuming it's just some idiotic SPAM bot because of this.
