Apache :: Running Htcacheclean For The First Time
Mar 29, 2015
We run httpd-2.2.3 on CentOS 5.8 with caching enable. The server has been running for 4 years, but htcacheclean has never been run. The cache folder is about 10GB now (a "du" on the folder takes a very long time to complete). Should we expect any problem when running htcacheclean for a first time such as server slowing or freezing, ... Furthermore, in case of freezing, if we disable caching and restart the server, do we expect any problems? We did a few test on our test servers, and everything was fine, but our test servers do not have a large cache folder.

I usually use the "top" command to see what is happening in my server ... Normally everything is OK untill one week ago I start so see this process:
PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND
1115 root 20 0 10768 10m 164 R 26 0.5 46:17.27 httpd
Is the number 1 on the top list using a lot of CPU and MEM (as I say before ... I never have seen this command in the past)
So when I kill the process everything goes fine but only for a few minutes and then is comming back

I run a FreeBSD box as my file and webserver I use a DynDns domain name and run the little update program. But anyway when ever I use my lappy and when ever my lappy makes an outgoing connection a login prompt comes up asking to connect to my domain. It used to just say my public IP but I edited hosts.rc so now it says my domain on the prompt.
Is this somthing to do with samba or apache on BSD or is windows detecting that I host my own or what.

The server is going down from time to time, every 12 days or so the site hosted there is no longer accesible, everything starts with the site slowing don and down and then is not longer reachable, what we do is to request a power cycle, and with this we start all over again till next power cycle, so on so on, of course, here are my server details and more info on this:
- MySQL - 5.1.41-3ubuntu12.10
- Apache - 2.2.14-5ubuntu8.4
- PHP - 5.3.2-1ubuntu4.9
- operating system: Ubuntu Server 10.04 LTS
After some time emailing the support guys to barely check about what's going on, we received an email with a few things:
1.- found a few errors that likely would cause issues with Apache. The first error is:
[Mon Feb 04 05:03:10 2013] [error] mod_fcgid: fcgid process manager died, restarting the server and the next error is:
[Mon Feb 04 14:32:34 2013] [error] server reached MaxClients setting, consider raising the MaxClients setting ...
Both these errors seem to indicate that you have a process that is running out of control on your server. We were unable to determine what script on your site is running caused your connections to be maxed out however it does appear that before these errors were generated there was a WordPress plugin referenced in your access logs...
2.- Additionally during our review we did find that your error log for mercadodedinerousa.com is 45 GB's which is excessively large and can cause problems when Apache is trying to write a such a large file.
3.- The majority of the errors being logged are:
[Wed Feb 06 12:12:31 2013] [error] [client 200.76.90.5] Options FollowSymLinks or SymLinksIfOwnerMatch is off which implies that RewriteRule directive is forbidden: /var/www/vhosts/mercadodedinerousa.com/httpdocs/index.pl, referer: [URL]

Working condition: Server 2008 R2
Server: Apache 2.4.9 (Win32-VC10) as reverse proxy - same configuration as before
Since the change to apache 2.4.9 we discover 5 log-entries for one sync-process via mobile device where before (2.4.7) there have been only 3 entries for the same sync-process with the same device. Besides this it takes a bit longer.

I have small issue with load speed of pages when number of apache running processes goes over +-310, during peak traffic of day. IE: They load really slow.
Here's pic of what I mean:
=> [url]
Only thing that fixes it temporarily (at least until peak traffic ends) is to stop either httpd or mysql for several seconds, as everything cools down, then start it back up. Stop/starting mysql usually has longer terms temporary fix.
Anyway, would you have any ideas on what to configure or change within the system in order to keep the processes under 300?
The load is normal. Even at load 40, pages are blistering fast, as long as processes are under 300. So it's got nothing to do with load.

How do I configure Lighttpd to serve images/javascript/css files that are littered about my websites? Can I just input the paths of all the directories that I want Lighttpd to serve from?
For example, I have 4 separate websites with each having a message board, main page etc... Could I have lighty serve the files from:
/var/www/html/site1/images
/var/www/html/site2/images
/var/www/html/site3/images
/var/www/html/site4/images
/var/www/html/site1/javascript
etc....
and have Apache serve the files from all the other directories?

I have been a web developer using PHP for years now, and my work laptop runs CentOS with PHP5 as an Apache Module. This suits me just fine for development, but now I want to setup a web server that runs PHP 4.4.8 and PHP 5.2.5 and offer hosting to people. I know PHP4 is very old, but I am looking to offer my users the freedom of choice, as there are still third party applications out there that may need to be run on PHP4.
I will want PHP 5 to be the default, and allow PHP 4 to be used if either the file extension is .php4, or they have a line in their .htaccess file. I have seen various tutorials in search engine results saying to run both, I can either do one of the following:
1. Install PHP5 as a module, and run PHP4 using FastCGI
2. Install PHP5 and PHP4 and run both using FastCGI
3. Install PHP4 as a module, and run PHP5 using FastCGI
In the future I will also be looking to support PHP6 once a stable version has been released, though that will probably be optional to begin with and require a line in the .htaccess file too - like PHP4. I will be using Apache 2.2.8 on CentOS 5.1. I am also looking to install Ruby on Rails and Django too, which I think use FastCGI.
What's the difference between running as an Apache Module, or using FastCGI? This will be for a shared hosting environment so performance over lots of connections, stability and security are my concerns. Should I run everything using FastCGI, if not, would the default PHP version be better off installed as an Apache Module?

I have a tiny "webpage" in an Apache server running on my computer. I've got for it this .htaccess file: URL...I have written it by googling,.(I don't really know very much about Apache HTTPD, but my Java suite requires this stuff, so here I am). Supposedly the first paragraph is to avoid Google Chrome from caching my files and the second part (the Order sentences) are to allow anyone to view only those kinds of files (which is otherwise let them see everything but folder roots.
And here is the httpd.conf, which I've modified almost only to change the listen port, the server name, and to replace the AllowOverride None into AllowOverride All so that .htaccess is actually used (I've deleted the comments for readability).URL....
I had never heard of something similar, "I can only load one instance of each file". In explanation, the only html file there's, runs from time to time a PHP script. Let's say I run it on localhost for example. Then everything is going fine. But I open a new tab, and load the same page (while the another one is yet open), and I'll get a 412 HTTP error. Similar thing happens if I try to load the webpage from another device. And, with my little experience with Apache HTTPD, I guess it's because of this .htaccess or httpd.conf files. Why does this happen or how can I solve it (either it be or not related to one of these files, I'll do whatever is needed)?
Apache 2.2.22 which can be found [link URL....]here[/link] in Windows 8 x86.

I'm trying to improve the performance of my website and noticed that https pages take really long to load:
[URL] ....
[URL] ....
It appears this problem is caused by using https, because when I open my site without https it loads pretty quickly.
[URL] ....
From what I can see it appears that the main problem is the time to first byte, so my question is how can I reduce this?
My virtualhost for SSL is set like this:
Quote:
<VirtualHost 46.249.47.12:443>
DocumentRoot "C:Program Files (x86)Apache Software FoundationApache24htdocssite 2"
ServerName www.elitegameservers.net
ServerAlias elitegameservers.net
ErrorLog "logs/xgclan.com-error.log"
[Code] ....
I have replaced the real paths with "PATH" for security reasons. How to reduce the time to first byte in general. I tried setting up memcache to accomplish this but I didn't notice any changes...
This is my mem cache config:
Quote:
<IfModule mod_mem_cache.c>
CacheEnable mem /
MCacheSize 10000000
MCacheMaxObjectCount 100000
MCacheMinObjectSize 1
MCacheMaxObjectSize 262144
</IfModule>
Update: Just ran the openssl speed command [URL] ....

I'm not sure I understand the server-status page enough to know if this is a problem or not, but I have several processes that seem to run forever, or until I restart Apache. e.g.
Code:
13-1 21045 0/697/4264 W 59.45 19641 0 0.0 43.28 274.97 66.249.66.133 www.example.com GET /wp/2005/01/ HTTP/1.1
19-1 408 1/834/1831 C 83.52 32463 0 14.8 149.66 263.48 66.249.66.133 www.example.com GET /wp/ HTTP/1.1
30-1 14416 0/430/431 W 35.19 13347 0 0.0 37.42 37.44 66.249.66.133 www.example.com GET /wp/category/issues/ HTTP/1.1
They are almost always on a single domain (there's about 100 on the server) that's a Wordpress site. These processes are also almost always a search engine.
On the rare case I see them running on other domains on the same server they're always on Wordpress sites.
The longer the processes run, the more processor/memory they use, the more they slow the server down.
It seems to have just started in the past few weeks, I've had the site there for a couple years.

I have an Apache server running on a virtual machine and I want to be able to access the pages it serves from a browser running on the host OS.
I am using OracleVM virtualbox as my VM platform.
I am using windows 7 as my host OS.
I am using ubuntu as my guest OS.
I have managed to set up a virtual host so that it works from browsers running in the guest OS (ubuntu)
But I cannot get it to serve these pages to a browser running in the host OS windows.
The config file in the apache2/sites-available and apache2/sites-enabled has the following config for the virtual host I am trying to access.
<VirtualHost *:80>
ServerAdmin webmaster@localhost
ServerName testsite
DocumentRoot /var/newserver
<Directory />
Options FollowSymLinks

I have configure my Apache to create rotated logs for every periodic time. It worked fine with my local PC, but when it is being configured on to a server system, the actual error.log file is not being update, only the rotated logs are created. If i remove the Error Log command from httpd.conf for Error Log Rotation, again it works fine as usual.

Running programs named Perl with Heavy CPU usage, with the ownership of user apache.
We found the problem on Fedora 3 and Fedora 6.
In our case, it was the result of a Trojan activity.
Quick Solution
Check the cron jobs of user apache
crontab -u apache -e
*/1 * * * * perl /tmp/.tmp/tmpfile
delete the cronjob entry.
Also delete the file /tmp/.tmp/tmpfile
also added "apache" to the file /etc/cron.deny
That's all
Problem and solution in detail....

We have many webservers in our environment, Few webservers serves static contents. In one application, we often change the excel file. Every day or 2 days once we will modified the excel sheet content. File name will be the same, only the content will be changed. We will modify the content of the sheet and upload through FTP to the docroot. After we done this if we access the application URL, its displaying the old content. Its takes time to reflect. sometime with in 3 hours sometimes after a day only reflecting. We are not sure what is the issue. we cleared the cache in browser and tried then also its showing the old content. We are using DNS,network load balancer, proxy between the browser and the webserver.
I tired accessing through FQDN, it showed old content, then i accessed through the LB IP it showed the modifed file. For testing i changed the content again and then accessed. This time even for IP it showed old content. Same i tried with the instance 1 IP and Instance 2 IP. On first time it showing properly but after i cahnged the file content and accessed it showing the old file I tried accesing from a different PC where we havent accessed before, there also it showed old content, SO i feel browser cache is not an issue.
We using Source subnet mask IP persistence in load balancer. I am not sure where the old file is cached actually. Will it be cached in Load balancer or proxy or somewhere in webserver. Just we are placing the file in docroot and accessing it in the URL
