Okay, I keep seeing VPS (and dedicated for that matter) providers that say you have control over your box... and then forbid things like IRC, adult content, and proxies. Why? What is it about those three types of content that strike fear into the hearts of hosting providers?
I can see forbidding those on shared hosting accounts. The extra CPU and bandwidth required could really put a crimp on the other accounts. But with VPS and dedicated, you are paying for a portion of the CPU and bandwidth so why would the provider care what you do with them?
What am I fundamentally missing?

a customers wordpress blog is taking all the cpu on the server, i can't figure out what the issue here is... i've tried many my.cnf's and i can verify that it uses the my.cnf file.. so that hasn't helped.. i can only mv index.php test.php for now until i could figure out why all these hits cause lag. any recommendations?

i have already an dedicated server, but with an strong traffic limit, so i search webspace (filespace) for my thumbnail images, the space is only for the images, no php scripts or databases are needed just imagespace.
the hoster should tolerate adult content, and have no problem with 500gb bandwith per month. Paypal should be accepted as payment.

I might be making a web site for an exotic dancer that may contain explicit photographs (no sex, topless images probably). This is more of a homepage, not a pay for membership adult site.
Anyways, whenever I have signed on with a host in the past they all seem to have the uniform user agreement that states no pornography, warez, etc. Would this type of thing be considered a pornographic web site? If so, are there any hosts that provide affordable shared web hosting that allow this, or would I be forced to get a dedicated server or something?

I'm not quite sure on what this means. Does it pertain to the obvious, like no child porn, bestiality, etc. Or is there legalities to the access of the adult content? Though I live in the US, I was not raised nor educated here, and thus not aware of the details here.
All I wish to host is a general content forum where my members can have a section to post 18+ pornography such as you would see in any regular adult video store. I plan to have this in an invite only section of the forum as to keep the content inaccessible to under 18 year olds. I believe this should be within the requirements of legal adult content.
