Access Folders In Root / Bypass Wordpress
My blog is set up to display in the root of my domain, although the files on the server sit within their own folder:
i.e
Server files
Public_html/wordpressfiles/
Broswer displays
www . mydomain . com/
(disaplys pages from /wordpressfiles)
The problem I have is that I can't access individual directories within the root, unrelated to wordpress.
e.g
I have
Public_html/folder2/...
Setup on the server, but if I enter the path in my browser:
www . mydomain . com/folder2
wordpress thinks I want to access:
www . mydomain . com/wordpress/folder2
...which doesn't exist.
How can I re-gain access to folders in the root, without wordpress interfering?

First, a bit of server data: Linux version: Linux version 2.6.9-023stab033.9-entnosplit (root@rhel4-32) (gcc version 3.4.5 20051201 (Red Hat 3.4.5-2)) #1 SMP Tue Dec 5 14:54:16 MSK 2006 Running on top of Virtuozzo 3.x, SLM Running the DirectAdmin control panel, v.1.30.2 For a couple years I've been maintaining a VPS, and I've had a command in root's .bash_profile to mail me the contents of `who` whenever root logs in (I'm certain this wouldn't catch everything, but I at least get mailed when I ssh in). However last night I got one of the dispatch emails, one that was definitely not caused by me logging in, and it was missing the `who` output in the body. Taloncrossing: Root Shell Access on: Mon Sep 17 00:58:49 EDT 2007 I started doing some looking, starting with the logs. /var/log/messages contained these lines: Sep 17 00:58:49 vps sshd(pam_unix)[16277]: session opened for user root by (uid= 0) Sep 17 00:59:17 vps sshd(pam_unix)[16277]: session closed for user root /var/log/security contained: Sep 17 00:58:49 vps sshd[16277]: Accepted password for root from 65.98.70.202 port 45053 ssh2 To me this is pretty clear that someone had shell access to root. The session lasted just under 30 seconds. The security log showed no signs of previous failed login attempts. I referred to this topic [url]to try to find anything unusual /var/log/wtmp has a reference somewhere to the accessing IP on grep, but 'who' will not reveal it, the same way that my email message was missing that info. Everything else looks clean, I've run chkrootkit and rkhunter, all the warnings (issued by rkhunter) are benign, the .bash_history is clean (not flushed or any suspicious commands), logs are clean, nothing unusual is running, can't find anything out of place. So basically I'm completely confused and have no idea what to make of all this. Was there a glitch? I can only assume that I am somehow compromised, but don't know what to make of all the data I've gathered. I'd really appreciate opinions from some of you that know this stuff way better than I do. The only action I've taken so far is changing the root password.

Managing Local Root Folder Without Being Able To Access It
I'm planning a website at the moment but I'm wondering about a slight issue, regarding the local root folder of a website. Currently, I'm using Dreamweaver to create a website and I have had no problems of uploading my files to a site through Dreamweaver before. But I will not have access to my computer for about one month every year. However, I have a laptop available during that month. But since my local root folder is located on my stationary computer it seems impossible for me to, in any way, use that laptop to manage my site (upload new files to the server).

MySQL: Access Denied For Root User
When I deleted a database, the user apparently was orphaned because when I tried to recreate it, it returned "user already exists". I've never encountered that problem although from Googling, I see others have and they delete the user to get around it. When I log into mysql using the da_admin@ account and attempt to remove the user with drop user <user_name>; I receive the following error message: ERROR 1227 (42000): Access denied; you need the CREATE USER privilege for this operation It seems I don't have rights even as the root user. How can I get remove the orphaned user?

Getting Files Off The Root Server That Is Outside Web Access
I am actually very inexpirience in server management. I have a small - I believe - problem. I need to get config file onto my computer from my root server. I can access it through terminal, but it is not very confortable. The config file is on root server. the file is located at //etc/xxx.conf Do I need to use web browser to do it? If so how? VPS With CentOS, LXAdmin, And FTP Server Root Access
I've just signed up for my first VPS with CMBHosting and the person in charge, Chetan Bakhru, seems like a genuinely nice, friendly and helpful person. In other words this new service look promising at the moment. However ... When I signed up I selected his CentOS/LXAdmin plan because I figured that with a pre-installed control panel like LXAdmin I could avoid as much ssh as possible and simply get "up and running" more quickly. Plus I have some experience managing my own CentOS development machine, and I know that a special software package I plan to install runs on CentOS "out of the box" -- so I was expecting good things from this new VPS. But when my account was created LXAdmin did NOT create an FTP admin account for me with root access to my VPS! Instead it created an account that drops me into web server's document root folder, and this is far too limiting for me. I really need FTP root server access -- and I'm surprised that LXAdmin did not provide this access by default. Not only that, but it appears that I cannot create a new FTP account that has any deeper access than the existing admin account! Does anyone with LXAdmin experience know if this is the way LXAdmin normally works by default? Or is this perhaps a special configuration created by my new VPS host?

Mass Backup Accounts To Remote FTP With ROOT Access And CPanel/WH
I have a VPS and about 140 accounts on it. I've also got cPanel and WHM installed. I'm moving to a new host, but the thought of having to move all these accounts manually really makes me lazy I have to go into each account and go to backup -> backup to remote FTP, and yeah.. Im trying to setup a mysql server on my centos vps server. Ive installed mysql server and done chkconfig and the mysql server has started. My problems start when i want to set a mysql root password. Disabling SSH Root Access But Enabling SSH Keys How To Do That
in order to secure my server against instrusion, i disabled ssh root login and created a user for myself. however in order to access the user i need to enable SSH Password authentication I dont enable password authentication all the time and i keep it disabled unless i need to do something via ssh. Now my question will be, is there a way to keep the user i created and keep the root login disabled and password authentication disabled but use ssh keys for the user i created? I was informed that if i opt to login to ssh via the user i created, the only way to do that is to enable password authentication as it cannot work with ssh keys. is this true? I really hope someone can help me how to use the user i created together with ssh keys so i dont have to enable password authentication when loggin to ssh

I accidently found that it could be available to de-activate mod_security in a certain directory by using a .htaccess like that... <IfModule mod_security.c> SecFilterEngine Off SecFilterScanPOST Off </IfModule> I believe it's something related to the "AllowOverride" directive from apache but im not exactly sure, the available arguments for this directive are "AuthConfig, FileInfo, Indexes, Limit, Options", I've tried hardly to find a way to not to disable the usage of .htaccess files and keep it's functionality but also to prevent it from being able to modify through it the functionality of mod_security. I'm sure Anyone here could help me in this issue as it's a big pain for any server running apache in a shared vhosting environment.

Disable/Bypass Suexec Per Vhost Domain
I am running on; Plesk versionpsa v8.0.1_build80060613.20 os_CentOS 4.2 Operating systemLinux 2.6.9-023stab033.6-smp License key numberPLSK.00170782.0006 I need to be able to access cgi between vhost domains. In particular one frequently updated file located 'centrally' in the cgi-bin of one of the vhost domain. I would like to be able to have other vhost domains be able to access this file but suexec won't let that happen. I have searched around and tried to following; Created vhost.conf file in the conf directory of one of the domains. The vhost.conf file contained (with no #): # <IfModule mod_suexec.c> # SuexecUserGroup userid psacln # </IfModule> I ran; /usr/local/psa/admin/bin/websrvmng -u --vhost-name=<domain name> Then reboot. The result was all the vhosts stopped working. I reset the websvrmng, things returned to normal. Then I tried updating the httpd.include file adding (with no #); # <IfModule mod_suexec.c> # SuexecUserGroup userid psacln # </IfModule> Then reboot. The result was the same, all vhosts stopped working. Does anyone have an idea how I can achieve this? I know I can disable suexec all together but that wreaked a little havoc with the cgi app when I tried that.

Can Cookie's Be Set Manually To Bypass Security
I have put an Access database inside an access_db folder on Godaddy and written some .asp pages that query it. I am trying to make sure that I take necessary precautions against hackers reading or even writing to the database. Maybe someone can give some remarks about whether any of these concerns are realistic, and if so, why and what I could do about it? 1) Could someone somehow navigate directly to the database and read or write to it (the access_db folder seems to have no read/write permissions as set by default by Godaddy, but how secure is that?) 2) I permit entry through use of a a userid and password that are looked up in an mdb in the same folder (not listed in the html itself). If theres a match, I store the userid as a session cookie. Then, to visit any other pages, each page first checks to see if the cookie is empty before proceeding. Is it possible for someone to set the cookie themselves and thus break through (can a cookie be set manually?) If so, would it help if I mandated that the cookie be set to something specific (right now it just has to be non-blank) or can they find out what the cookie should be set to as well?

How To Stop This Attack [Bypass Safe_mode & Openbase Dir]
Recently, some of our Linux/cPanel servers got hacked (not rooted) by using the following code (method) #!/usr/bin/perl symlink ("/home/USER/config.php","/home/USER2/test.txt"); The hacker just execute the perl file , and then he called the "test.txt" file through internet explorer , and its done , he can read the file easily ! We tried to : 1- run php as CGI module. 2- run SUPHP module. 3- run php as apache module. 4- enable open_basedir and safe_mode. But the hacker still can bypass the system! the only solution is to disable /usr/bin/perl , chmoded it to 700 . but thats caused a broken cpanel! as it requires it to be at 755 for proper operation, since it is used by customers as well when it suexec into the user when they log into cPanel. and so we cannot change it to that setting (700), since it breaks the entire system. So is there any way to stop the "symlink" perl function? any way to stop this attack method?

IIS 5.1 - Browsing Folders
Well I finally got around to getting my IIS up and running which will save some time with uploading various files to check that they are working correctly but now I have run into a new problem. What used to happen with my IIS is it would list out all of the folders which I had in the wwwroot and I would simply navigate through and select which site needed to be tested. At the moment, I have cleared out the wwwroot folder entirely since all of the stuff in there was to do with a "Windows XP Professional" page which appeared upon installation. However, now that I don't need it anymore, I decided to clear it out and test IIS out by making a new folder called "sites" into wwwroot. Now though, it simply comes up with a "Directory Listing Denied. This Virtual Directory does not allow contents to be listed." error message, even though I have changed the permissions on the wwwroot folder to allow writing etc. Could this be because it's IIS 5.1 and I need to install IIS 6.0 instead or is something else wrong? I know for a fact that my operating system (Windows Media Center Edition 2005) will do this list as I have had it before, back before I installed Vista and then decided to come back to MCE.

I can send e-mails out but many times they go directly to the recipient's SPAM box. Also, my server cannot send to any company e-mail that uses MXLogic.net's services. Accessing Shared Folders
I have server which all files and folders are stored on. Now there are a couple of folders which are only accessible by one machine at present and all the other machines when they access the folder it is displayed as empty. I have checked all permisions and all machines viewing of files settings are the same and folders accessible by all machines have the same settings as the couple which are only accessible from this one machine. If I copy and paste the folder all machines then have access to the folder from although this would be a lengthy exercise for the full hard drive.

Mystery Folders Being Created
I am designing a site for a client and in all the years I've done design etc, I've come up against a phenomenon with their VPS server they have. It's linux and uploading files I am using WS_FTP Home. I am uploading files and folders to their public_html/domain.com/ (*I use domain here for their privacy) and in some folders (directories) after doing so, a mystery folder suddenly appears that is named 5" and as you enter that folder, you see the path directory show up "public_html" and if you go into that one, you come up to the domain.com folder again, and if you deeper into that one you start to see this phenomenon of mirroring folders of the one you go into. Example: public_html/domain.com/images/5"/public_html/domain.com/images/file ***the file whether it's an image jpg, png, etc is created as the last directory as a folder, not a file. I should also mention that as you go deeper in the 5" mystery directory folder, you no longer see the path in the FTP anything past the 5" one even as you go further in. Oh, and it doesn't allow you to delete these 5" folders regardless of what permissions. And this folder seems to show up in many areas of this website's directory structure...mostly where images are (don't know if that is just a coincidence). So hope all this makes sense....anyone seen this before and what the cause could be? Their host doesn't seem to know the reason and says they cannot see it even though others can. They said it's the FTP program as the cause and not their server. My comeback to that is that I've used this FTP for years and never before seen this happen. It's only with this one client's server.

IIS 5 - Cant Access Page From IE7 But Can Access From Firefox
I found a great little app called ID Shutdown Manager which bascially lets you do stuff like wake on LAN, Shutdown, Log Off etc. The App also has a cgi script which you can call from a web server so you get a web interface to the program. This is exactly my reason for getting the app as I just wanted to host a web page where I could login from the internet and wake on lan my media PC. Ok so... The app gives you all the iis or apache setup instructions and tells you to place the cgi script which is actually a .exe into the scripts folder and then enable basic authentication for it. Done. So if I navigate to <SERVER>/scripts/sdmancgi.exe its supposed to give me a user / pass prompt and then when login successful I see the app and can wake on lan etc. ok I have got this to work on the actual machine where server is running I can access it in IE7 by localhost etc.. and it works However when I try to access from another PC in my lan by typing <SERVER>/scripts/sdmancgi.exe I get a nice little message saying the content cannot be displayed you may require to insall a program or something to display it. If I try to access the page from firefox on same remote PC, it works! I can also access page from outside my LAN, it works on my N95 browser. Also I have had friends try it from firefox from the Internet and they say it works as well. Forgot to mention I am running on port 8081 as I already have other servers running on 8080 and 80 (one is my router and the other server installed itself from setup.exe and I dont know what server its using) I have also tried latest apache server as well as some other free one. Both have the same effect. Ok in firefox, not in IE. One would think its a problem with the cgi file not compatible with IE7 however, I even tried to go to default page setup in IIS <SERVER>:8081 and I get the same message. So at this point the server hasnt even tried to access CGI or prompt for Basic Authentication. I tried googling and not much luck. I read something about CSS and when I view source of failed web page from IE7 it mentions something about CSS so dont know if this is it?

SSL Certificates Works For Folders?
Say i have domain zzzzz.com and have some folders say a, b and c would ssl if installed for main domain zzzzz.com work for https://zzzzz.com/a and so on ? or would wildcard ssl be required for that ? And what if that /a folder is actually a subdomain, but since you can access subdomains via url/folder instead of folder.url would ssl work on it using url/folder option instead of subdomain url ?

Deny Perl In Public Folders
How do you guys deny run of perl/bash scripts from /tmp, /var/tmp, /dev/shm? I've tried to build simple shell wrapper, but that's not a compromise if you run for example spamassassin on the same server (it needs direct io to/from perl binary). I'm looking intro some kind of binary wrapper or patch that will deny running perl scripts from public folders (also the same for shell scripts will be great). Any ideas or solutions? Can't Access Dns Only Remote Access Key
I have successfully installed dns only to my vps. the problem is when i try to add it to the cluster system on my other vps it asks for a remote access key, so i visit both ip:2087/scripts/setrhash and ip:2086/scripts/setrhash and it shows an unable to connect error in firefox. this is both using [url] does anyone know how i can access the remote access key?

Zipping Up Multiple Public_html Folders From Shell
OK so I'm on the shell and looking at the contents of my home/ directory which has all the various accounts. In each account directory are subdirs such as mail, logs, tmp, etc, and public_html. Is there a way (or a ZIP command) to be in the home directory and create a massive ZIP file containing all the account directories, each containing ONLY the respective public_html subdir for that account? Using the command "zip -r Backups.zip ./" seems to include all those extra folders (such as mail, etc.) that aren't needed.

Removing Large Files Or Folders CentOS
Something weird happening here. I have tried every string possible... There are a number of folders I want to remove off my server, tried the good old and simple... rm -r /folder/ And then went and ended up with a string as long as my screen. No matter what I do, as it goes recursive in to the directory it asks me if I want to remove each file individually. No matter what string or action I take it insists on asking me as it goes to delete each file. Could this be a configuration option in CentOS?

Addon Domain, Cant Have Password Protected Folders
I have 2 domains on 1 account. My main website is www.aviationcafe.net and i added on www.modelcuir.com thats what it looks like to the public. But with my host it will be www.modelcuir.aviationcafe.net. I noticed in the files area that modelcuir is it's own file, i can password protect that but it will stop people getting onto the website completly and i only want to stop them getting into the members area. I can't create a members area either unless i can add a new folder which i can't i dont think.

Apache 1.3 For One Site, Two Cgi-bin Folders
my server has just one site, apache conf has such a line: Code: ScriptAlias /cgi-bin/ "/usr/local/apache/htdocs/cgi-bin/" and Code: <Directory "usr/local/apache/htdocs/cgi-bin"> AllowOverride None Options None Order allow,deny Allow from all </Directory> then, my cgi script may run well under the said folder, /usr/local/apache/htdocs/cgi-bin but I have another script need to be setup another cgi-bin under its own folder below htdocs folder, like, /usr/local/apache/htdocs/anotherscript/cgi-bin however, when I run the said script in browser: Code: http://www.mydomain.com/anotherscript/cgi-bin/abc.cgi the browser just shows source codes, instead of running it. I am guessing something wrong in httpd.conf, may I know how to set apache httpd.conf to meet my requirement?

Copy Newly Created Folders In /tmp
We've had someone starting nobody PERL procs on a box and we can't quite track it down or read the file to see what it is. What he does is to create a folder in /tmp, execute the script from there and delete the folder as soon as it's running (yes, /tmp is mounted noexec, makes no difference). We've managed to discover and block the IP that was doing this, but that's no fix. He hasn't been back since banning the IP...so far. What we would like to do is see if anyone knows of (or can help create) a script that can watch the /tmp folder and copy newly created directories and thier contents to another dir (also notifying via email would be helpful) in order to see what the heck it's doing, and hopefully be able to figure out how it's getting in. Nothing in any logs this time, and the PERL process seems to be able to hide itself from PS. That bit worries me quite a lot, but none of the binaries appear to have been changed, and it doesn't appear we've been rooted in any way. Thoughts on this, ideas and suggestions welcome. Failing that, is it possible without breaking the box to prevent the creation of new directories in /tmp? This I seriously doubt, but if all they need to do is create a folder and work from there, noexec is a joke.

Offsite Backups (via Rsync) - What Files/folders To Backup
I'm currently using (amongst other backup systems) rsync to an offsite space (am using BQBackup at the moment) I'm just wondering - apart from backing up all of /home/, /var/lib/mysql/ and the important config files (httpd.conf, php.conf, etc etc) is there anything else that *needs* to be backed up? Obviously in a worst case scenario, a new machine would be deployed with a fresh OS install (and a fresh WHM/cPanel install) so I wouldn't worry about backing up OS files or cPanel core files, although I'm wondering if there's anything apart from the /home/ directory and the MySQL databases which would be lost (and so need backing up) in the event of a crash?

How Can This Be Done? IIS Multiple Vir. Dir. Or Real Folders
The scenerio is client want to enable unlimited URL for his individual customers. ie,[url] Platform: W2K3 IIS6 I only know two ways doing it 1. Create a real folder /username1, /username2, but this will be real messy, and I remember there is a limitation for up to 36,000 sub-folders within a root folder under Windows (correct me if I am wrong) 2. Create virtual directories under IIS Manager using ASP/ASP.NET script, this is easiest, but having two problem. a. If I have say 10,000 vir. dir., and then I try to expand that root folder under IIS manager, IIS manager will hang for sure. b. Having such huge vir. dir will inevitably having a huge IIS Metabase, this means a great chance of corrupting it, so it's very dangrous. I really hope someone can give me some hints how to do this in a scalable way? I know many Web2.0 site do this even using IIS6 ie, [url]
