Adding IPs To CPanel/WHM Server
I have setup a new cpanel/whm server. The main IP address works fine and I added the additional IP addresses the datacenter gave me. That was yesterday, today I logged on and when I go to IP Functions >> Show or Delete Current IP Addresses all the addresses I added yesterday are showing up in red text and I cant ping any of them, not even if I ping them from the server itself. Seems that when I rebooted the server after the initial cpanel setup something has caused this. Trouble is my name servers are sitting on 2 of the malfunctioning ip addresses so they aren’t working at all. I have tried removing them ad re-adding them and they still show red.

How Can I Backup CPanel With Cron
I just went through a week of nightmares, because my host lost hard drives and stuff.. lost my data, etc.. what ever.. I want to work out how I can cron cPanel backups. I did a search online for a cPanel backup manager, but I didn't have much luck. Or, maybe there's some other way to get regular backups? I don't really need to backup my whole sites. I keep my files locally, but of course I don't have the databases locally -- or the email records. All I "really" need is the database SQL files, so that I can rebuild my forums if need be, and also the email setup files -- because I have over 50 domains and I have emails set up on all of them. I want to have them emailed to myself. There's an option in cPanel too, which allows me to "generate/download a full backup".. well, how do I "restore" the backup? ie: I know how to backup and restore the home directory, databases and email stuff (there's 3 options in cPanel), but there doesn't seem to be anywhere to restore the full backup. Anyway, can anyone give me advice on how to keep backups of my cPanel accounts? I don't trust hosts anymore. They say they back stuff up, but they never to.

Cpanel Cron Backup To Ftp
Im setting up new windows server, packed with only FTP server (FileZilla) to remote backups. How can i get my cpanel account make backups and upload them to my FTP server as an cron job? Offcourse i have option to backup via cpanel, but this is needed to do manually every time (setting remote ftp ip, account, passwd etc,). Is there a option in cpanel / whm to do full-backup all my accounts in my reseller account? Or do i need to do it per account? Some of my servers is only reseller accounts without root access, only reseller account.

A couple weeks ago, I encountered a big server crash on my VPS that caused me a lot of downtime. I'm currently trying to figure out a solution to keep a current "clone" of all of my server accounts on a second server. That way, if I ever encounter another crash, I'll be able to simply change DNS information to have all accounts "live" using the backup server. I appreciate any input, advice, suggestions, criticism, etc. Here's what I have in mind... 1. I currently have all of my websites hosted on Server #1. (We'll call it that for the sake of avoiding confusion.) 2. I have an automatic nightly backup setup via cPanel / WHM that backs up all accounts from Server #1 to Server #2 via FTP. (Server #2 is in a totally different data center, with a different provider.) 3. The nightly backup packages all of the accounts as "cPanel Full Backups." So, they're compressed, and as such, they don't work as "live, functioning websites" on Server #2. The only way to make them "live and functional" on Server #2 would be to use cPanel to "restore" the backups. 4. So, what I'd like to do is setup a CRON job that would automatically "Restore" the backups each morning on Server #2. That way, Server #2 would always have a functional version of all my accounts, that is less than a day old. Then, if Server #1 ever crashed, I'd just have to change DNS information to point to Server #2, and all of the websites would be live again, without having to physically restore all of the backups using cPanel. I don't know a ton about CRON. However, as I understand it, CRON couldn't actually make cPanel restore the backups. However, I'm assuming that when you use cPanel's "Restore" function, it just goes through a series of processes. So, it seems logical to me that, if you knew what those processes were, you could write a CRON job to automate the process every morning. Did that make sense? If so, is it possible? Do you guys have any input, criticism, etc? If it's doable, can you make any suggestions that would help me make this happen? Finally, if you think you have the expertise to make this happen, I'd be interested in chatting with you via Private Message. Are These DNS Entries The Same?
I just moved to a new vps and I have "ns1.domain.com" and "ns2.domain.com" entries for my primary and secondary nameservers as well as simply "ns1" and "ns2" .... are these the same thing? Is there any harm in having both? Any feedback appreciated!

Nameserver Entries
On of my client has registered his domain (austasiapackaging.com) with BlueCentral.com . BlueCentral also provides them with mail service. Now I have to provide web hosting for this domain. Should I change the nameservers entries or should I change the A Record? Or do I change them both?

Error_log - Strange Entries

Apache 2.x Config Entries
I used to have a dedicated server running Apache 1.x (1.3 I think) and in my httpd.conf there were entries about keepalives, maxservers, minservers etc. I've now got a VPS from FutureHosting, which is brilliant. In my httpd.conf file though, there are none of the above entries. It is running the latest version of Apache (2.2.11). Are all the keepalive / minservers settings handled automatically in 2.2 or do I just have a default setting and maybe need to add them manually? I don't have any load issues so haven't touched the config so far.

Multiple DNS Entries
I have been searching through threads on WHT, but have not found anything really conclusive regarding this. If I were to list two A records for the same domain name on my nameserver, such as: www.mydomain.com -> 123.234.123.234 www.mydomain.com -> 234.123.234.123 How would most browsers handle this? Would it only try the first entry, or would it try the first entry, and if the specified IP is unavailable it would try the second entry?

Lossing Entries On My /etc/localdomains
I discovered this forum googling and i think is a very good community, so i registered and well... as any noob, started to ask questions U.U im new in this stuff of web hosting... though i know some things... i dont have experience, its my first job in a small web hosting company, and we have a strange problem, we loss entries on /etc/localdomains when we migrate domains from one server to another and nobody knows why... we can fix it trough deleting the dns entry and creating it again on the target server. APF Entries And CIDR
I have been trying to figure out how to allow a range of IPs with APF. I finally came across the CIDR page on wikipedia and read it though, and now I get it. I just want to confirm one thing before I implement this. I run a gameserver where I want to allow everyone in the world to connect on a certain port, so can I use this entry? Code: tcp:in:d=27015:s=192.168.0.0/0 From what I understand, using the /0 CIDR suffix basically means "all IPs". So technically I could use ANY IP address for the source with the /0 suffix and it will work right?

DNS (MX) Entries - Gmail For Your Domain
I'm running a dedicated server with Plesk 8.1 For all newly created domains, they will automatically adopt a DNS template which I've set up in Plesk. But for my own domains (not clients) I've changed my MX entries in my DNS Settings section to point to the server of that of Gmail (Google). The primary server with the highest priority is "aspx.l.google.com" To get to the point... I receive emails on the Gmail interface, which is stored on the Gmail server, though I have a slight problem when it comes to local emails. In other words...when my server sends out an email to myself (either from a contact form, daily log files, etc...) I don't receive the emails through the Gmail interface, but rather through my POP server, which is logical, since my server is most probably configured to use "mail.yourdomain.com" and not "aspx.l.google.com". Question : How can I have both incoming emails (from other domains/servers) and local emails (from my own server) go through the Gmail server? I'm guessing that I'll have to edit Sendmail or PHP or something, though I'm not sure, that's why I'm posting this. Sorry if the post is a bit confusing. I tried my best to explain the situation, though if you have any questions, please respond with them.

Registrars Not Accepting DNS Entries
I have set up a pair of name servers, the first one is accepted by the registrars and the second one is not. They have been configured identically as far as I can tell. It appears that some test is run by the registrars to see if the name server can be used. Is there any way I can find what test it is and get a way to run it to see what the problem is? Are there scripts or sites where I can run whatever type of test it is and know what the problem is?

Add Email Accounts With Mx Entries
I just transfered an existing client of mine to one of my servers but he has MX entries. I entered the MX settings in Cpanel for him but im wondering if I have to actually add all the mail accounts? Im assuming since he is using MX entries then he is using a seperate server to handle all the accounts. Am I right in my assumption? Do I have to add all his mail accounts into cpanel?

Really Odd DDoS Or Something -> No Log Entries, Over 2200+ PHP Processes
WHM 11.15.0 cPanel 11.18.3-C21703 CENTOS Enterprise 4.6 i686 on standard - WHM X v3.1.0 Few days ago i upgraded cPanel, and then Apache, PHP5, eAccelerator, hadn't updated in ages. Server worked lightning fast compared to old (PHP 4, older Apache, no eAccelerator), and seemed stable. Few hours later, server is unresponsive, it took over a day to get the server on the status that i can even see what's happening! Downgraded back to PHP4, removed suhosin. Still happens. Reworked all the configs, and took all resource limits so low that it survives that, PRM gives 12secs time, enough apache processes etc. Maximum clients lowered to 50 etc. you get the general feel what i did, just to see what's going on. Now the server survives those 2200+ processes somehow and comes back responsive in some minutes. Killing all PHP processes alone does not solve the problem, but need to restart other services too. All services tend to start crashing when this happens. Thing is, they are specific user PHP processes, ALL of them, and thus HTTP Request (suPHP), but no log entries for those, i do not see where from they originate, what PHP files are being requested, reworking individual PHP files for that account didn't help at all etc. I cannot just suspend this account, it's an high importance account for my own needs. This account gets ~2½million requests a month regularly, and server can handle that. There was one new reseller account setup for someone else the day this started happening (i upgraded to PHP5 just after accoutn creation) but i think that's unrelated. Any ideas how to start pursuing a resolution for this? It has started happening more frequently than before, so i'm also suspecting a DDoS, ubt there should be log entries. Is it possible the requests come so fast that Apache just don't have the time needed to write log? HDD is the bottleneck actually on this server (ty Leaseweb, you guys gave me the worst HDD of the size you could find and want to charge 25euros a month extra for a proper HDD of same size, 250gb!)

We all know that our localhost can be accessed at 127.0.0.1 or your the IP assigned by your NIC which starts from 192.168.1.2 (or 192.168.0.2 in some cases depending on the router you use). My question is that, how do I map the other IPs 192.168.1.3, 192.168.1.4, 192.168.1.5 etc. etc. and have them point to my localhost?

Adding In New IP And Gateway
My server in the datacenter has to migrate to new IPs. Is it feasible to add new ip and gateway and have that operating on eth0 -- doing it remotely? The dc said I can have both IPs concurrently working for the next 10 days or so. But, I'm still unsure if I can safely set the new ip and gateway on the server remotely. Any help would be appreciated. Of course, I have logged a ticket to see if they will set my new primary ip from the console and all the virtual interfaces ... But, would like to know for my own information if this process is doable remotely.

Adding IP Address To WHM
about adding IP addresses to cPanel. I've added 8 IP's to my WHM, and I am slightly confused... I moved one domain to the new IP address and it worked fine after 15 minutes. I then moved another to a new IP address and it did not work after waiting over 30 minutes. The only difference between the two accounts is one account has 2 domains attached to it and one has about 15 domains attached to it. If I just were to leave it sitting and wait would it switch to the new IP? I would have no problem with waiting except for the fact that it resolves to the "cPanel/WHM is now installed" screen, rather then the website.

The server only allows one static IP to access SSH, at the moment I'm away and don’t have a static IP on my current ISP connection so cannot access SSH. Adding Glue To My Nameservers
I have a domain name that I registered with 123-reg.co.uk, and have pointed the domain to my name servers of my host, but when I look at the dnsstuff report it comes up as not having any "Glue" for the name servers. 123-reg gives control to me to edit the domain name options (A, CNAME etc). I installed mssql support to my cpanel server as you mentioned on cpanel forums. When i request some data it gets charecters in error and writes them to mysql server. I've installed this on previous server and didnt have this kind of problem. I set same configs with old server (mysql.php,etc.) but it's not working. Adding Google Adsense For Domains
Since they had opened it up to everybody, I am adding Google Adsense for domains to one of my spare domain names. I am unable to edit my A and CNAME records myself, so always just email my host to do it. The setup guide is here and my host is having problems. Google wants you to setup 4 different A records, but my host claims they can only do one on a shared linux server running BIND DNS. Is this just a limitation of using shared hosting or are we missing something obvious? Why can I not just add one of the A records and miss out the other three?

Adding IMAP To Apache/PHP
I installed Fedora Core 4 from the DVD included with the "Run Your Own Web Server" book. Everything went great. Now I need to add IMAP to PHP. This has proved very difficult, as it seems that the sources are not provided. I downloaded the latest Apache and PHP and tried to build with the same configuration used to build the ones that came with the book. (Apache went fine - the module inclusions are done through the configuration files. PHP is not going well at all - I grabbed the ./configure options from a phpinfo() call, and it just barfed all over the place.) Simple question: is there an easy way to get the IMAP into PHP without going through the recompilation? Simple answer: Install the PHP-IMAP RPM. I sure made this a lot harder than it need to be.

Adding Extension To Apache Config
I run a Perl/CGI script from a Web page to download some files located in a Linux server. When I click from a Windows XP on the link of the file to download via this Web page (IE), a dialog box will be displayed to ask me to "Open" or "Save" the file (.txt, .doc, .xls,...) but for some extensions like ".dat" or ".asc", the dialog box ask me to save it only and I have not an "Open" button. I tried to configure Apache to add these extensions as text/plain by adding these lines in http.conf: AddType text/plain .asc .txt .dat How can I add these extensions (.dat, .asc and other extensions) to Apache configuration to be able to open it with Textpad or Notepad? I hope that the users will be able to open it with Notepad or TextPad without saving it. I know that we can add this type directly in the stations XP but I have a lot of users and I cannot manage that. I hope to perform it from the server. I think something is wrong or missing in my AddType, AddHandler or LoadModule?

Adding/configuring Network Card
Im running Solaris 10 on x86 (but I think the process will be similiar to Linux since they both use ifconfig, but I may be totally wrong). I have an onboard 10/100 ethernet port that I'm trying to get working (on a home network with w/ router at 192.168.1.1). When I do ifconfig -a.. all thats shown is lo0 . Where the ethernet cable is plugged in, the little led light is blinking like it should, so I'm pretty sure its just a software configuration thing.

This is what I did: /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0:10 In there, I placed: DEVICE=eth0:10 IPADDR=192.168.1.100 NETMASK=255.255.255.0 ONBOOT=yes Saved, and then: /sbin/service network restart ==== Have I done this correctly?
