Multiple Domains/websites With A Single Hosting Plan
May 31, 2009
I'm about to the point where I am ready to host my website. I already have a domain but no hosting plan. In the future I may want to have several different websites each with their own unique domain. I was wondering if I choose a hosting plan for one site, can I use the unused web space for additional domains/websites?
I think this is the right place to post this if not then please move it to the correct forum. Now, I have IIS 5.1 how do you host multiple websites from the same PC or server using ports, I searched around and found very little of use to me it mainly said stuff like: "Right click you defult website, mouse over the new catagory and click new website" That solution is exactly what I needed!! but it only says New "Virtual directory" please help!
,if this is not possible on IIS 5.1 please tell me how to upgrade to IIS 6.0 or give me some very useful links
i recently purchased my first vps from netdepot and want to transfer my 2 web forums from shared hosting. So what is the best and easy way to do this. I got the control panel Lxadmin and also webmin. I Switch Programed to apache and bind because i know little bit about them.
I run several sites and am wanting to setup several more. Currently I have two shared plans, but I don't like how the add-on domains are affected by the main domain (e.g. addon.main.com on 4## and 5## pages).
Is going reseller the easiest way for me to have these domains not affected by each other (a separate cpanel each)?
Finally, I don't use a lot of resources so are there actually reseller plans out there with lower prices (and lower resources too).
I have a little question that I'm sure somebody more knowledgeable can answer. I had a hosting account with GoDaddy that just hosted my web site only. I had a few clients need hosting at the same time so I looked into upgrading my account to one that would host multiple domains. (this is my first time with multiple clients, can you tell?) I thought perfect! I can host all of my clients accounts from this one hosting account. I thought there would be multiple account interfaces to support this.
So when I get in there, it lets me add one of the domains I was working on and then I went to upload the files and apparently I had to upload the file to a directory off of my site. So newsite.com points to mysite.com/newsite.
I uploaded it just to test it out and when you go to newsite.com it shows in the address bar as newsite.com, not mysite.com/newsite, even though that is the directory path. I'm sure there's a name for this but I have no idea what it is so I wanted to explain my issue clearly.
So, I'm wondering, is this kosher? Is this bad to do or do a lot of people do this and will it affect my site? From what I've gathered so far, people only do this when they have multiple domains pointing to the same site, or am I wrong?
I just tried westhost. Very nice folks, good reviews, worth a shot. I signed up for a regular hosting account that allows multiple domains. That didn't work for email. An email user has access to email under that users name for all domains attached to the account. so you can't have firstname.lastname@example.org, email@example.com, etc. One info@ per account. I did find a hack for it, but it wouldn't work with web mail.
So now I need to find a host that separates mail by domain WITH webmail.
This is getting so tiresome. I have a VPS with "the planet", but so many things just don't work out of the box. I've been fighting with them about PHP not sending mail for months. DNS problems everytime I setup a new domain. There has to be an easier way!
15 domains, everything needs to work. I don't want to manage anything. No resellers. The company I host with will own the data center.
I have two domains as virtual hosts on same IP address.
I am getting certificate error for the second domain when I try to check email (using MS Outlook). I can't permanently "accept" certificate, it complains again and again. Certuficate I created and self signed for imap.domain1.com, but the second email server is imap.domain2.com, so it complains.
How do I set separate email certificates for two domains? Is it possible at all?
I use a up2date Plesk 12 on a Debian Linux Server. I use my Admin Account to create Service Plans, Customer an Subscriptions. I enter the customer Accounts by klick Open in Control Panel (i am Admin in the Customer Account) and add domains.
today I try to change the PHP Settings of all Domains. (set more php_memory and max_execution_time)The Service Plan are success sync to all Subscriptions. but the settings are not change on the Domains check with phpinfo();so I try to rewrite all settings by using the command line and change the PHP Version and change back
for i in `mysql -uadmin -p`cat /etc/psa/.psa.shadow` psa -Ns -e "select name from domains"`; do /usr/local/psa/bin/domain -u $i -php_handler_id 9235d9db7f57382520fd94d64d1f80b2f121e79b; done
for i in `mysql -uadmin -p`cat /etc/psa/.psa.shadow` psa -Ns -e "select name from domains"`; do /usr/local/psa/bin/domain -u $i -php_handler_id fastcgi; done but the settings are still not effected.
Hello guys, I have been a longtime lurker (too long ) and I look forward to becoming an active member on the site...
I am still in the process of researching a reliable web hosting company. It has been a blessing and a curse to have so many choices. I plan to host multiple ecommerce websites (5) and will need SSL encryption. I have looked at Hostgator as a possible candidate, but their business package has just one dedicated IP address...
If I am running 5 seperate ecommerce websites, will I need 5 seperate dedicated IP addresses in order to utilize SSL for each individual site? My suspicion is yes due to security purposes... Also what are good SSL certificates? RapidSSL appears to be a cheaper one, but is it the same as other certificate issuers? Or is buying certs equivalant to buying domains; just but the cheapest ones....
Thanks again guys... Just curious on what my options are. I'm "starting" out and testing the waters so to speak so a dedicated server or higher cost solution is out of the question yet. I would like to find a good quality shared server hosting plan with a reputable company who doesn't overloard servers for profit....
Any ideas what you guys would recommend with the above mentioned... ixwebhosting appears perfect for my needs due to the fact you get 8 dedicated IP's (so they say), but I have read nothing but bad things about them + the price is too good to be true...
When I hear the words "Unlimited" I want to run.. Unlimited and Cheap... LOL *rolls eyes* Want quality, fair price, for the above mentioned items...
I have been very interested in Mosso for quite some time, though Cloud Sites didn't seem quite right for what I needed with the compute cycles they had. However, their fairly new Cloud Sites looks very interesting, and their sales people at least will have me believe load balancing with several server instances will be superior to my current dedicated server.
Right now I have a server with Liquid Web that costs me $424/mo and 4x Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz with 4GB of RAM. The average load on the server is anywhere from 30% at low times to 70-80% at peak times and memory usage is usually 20-50%. On average there are about 1000 mysql queries per second as the site is very ajax-intensive (hence Cloud Sites being way too expensive).
I don't really know the difference and technical side of all of this, I just program and do the business side of things, but I really like what Mosso has and am wondering if I would get a performance boost going with their Cloud Servers (Going with something like 8 server instances at 512mb RAM each @ only around $200/mo including bandwidth). Also, would I want to load balance all 8, or do something like 4 running the mysql and the other 4 serving the actual site?
I need to configure multiple Apache Web Servers on redhat server. I have copied and extracted Apache 2.2 into redhat server and extracted but not able to install because I don't understand setting prefix. Please let me explain about prefix configuration and how to set it. At the same time I would like to know is it possible to setup 4 Apache Web Servers on same machine if possible then how to. Can we set up different versions of Apache HTTP Servers?
I migrated domains from another server and they had separate http and https folders. Now I need to make them use same httpdocs for both http/https. How do I do it for a single domain? How do I batch do it for all domains?
