Trying to determine how much better, if any, the Dual Opteron 265 would be over the Quad 6600... this is for a dedicated server.
Also... would it be worth $20 per month more for a Dual Opteron 2212? View 3 Replies

I am going to buy a new server and I am unsure of which route to take.
Basically the cost is identical for a Dell server with: 1 AMD Operton Dual Core 2.4Ghz OR 2 AMD Operton Dual Core 2.0Ghz What is the felling? Does the 4 cores out weight the extra 400 mhz per processor, but only having 2 cores? The server will be running: Windows 2003 Standard x32 Plesk 8.2 IIS 6.0 [ Application Pools Setup ] MySQL Microsft SQL Express 2005 [ONLY CAN USE 1 CPU/CORE] MailEnable Can my applications even handle/utilize four cores? Which is a better option? Both priced same, I know with the Xeon 5310 the possibility of upgrading to dual cpu's.
Quote: Single Processor Quad Core Xeon 3220 - 2.40GHz (Kentsfield) - 2 x 4MB cache Single Processor Quad Core Xeon 5310 - 1.60GHz (Clovertown) - 1 x 8MB cache Which would give higher performance in a shared web hosting environment? View 12 Replies

There always seems to be some Quality issues with the Nvidia chipsets, so I was looking at getting some feedback on boards if any of you have been using anything else yet.
Normally I only use Tyan for server builds but the only alternative to Nvidia chipset is the Thunder h2000M (S3992-E). I'm looking for stability #1, performance #2 I'm looking for something non Nvidia but simular to the "TYAN S4989WG2NR Quad 1207(F)" as far as features. View 1 Replies

Which one is better?
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E4500 @ 2.20GHz goes with 2GB RAM and Dual Opteron 246 2.0 Ghz goes with 4GB RAM I use this server for a little big forum with about 16,000 member, 300 members + visitors online everytime and 2 more sites (small sites). One more question, Is 10Mbps switch port or 100Mbps switch port affected to speed? View 8 Replies

I read that quad cores, really aren't that useful since, most applicaitons aren't multi-threaded...*has no idea what that means*
If i used a quad core for a few websites that get about 20k visitors per day, would it noticeably increase perfermance compared to just a regular dual core? View 8 Replies

Does the single physical processor Core 2 Duo beat the Dual (physical) CPU AMD Opteron 244 in general?
I am curious as I don't see many people offering them anymore, and someone told me that the Core 2 Duos are actually faster than the 2 CPU Opteron I am talking about. View 11 Replies

We are hosting our software system which do calculation and file manipulation.
Now we have Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 and would like to get Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 to increase our system performance. Also we have other choice, get Intel Xeon E5405 Harpertown 2.0GHz to replace two above. I think it is better to have one server box because one box easy to manage than two. Also Harpertown is much faster than these two together. What is your opinion? View 11 Replies

About to pickup a server strictly for use with MySQL databases.
Right now there's zero price difference between the Intel 5110 dual core and the 5310 quad cores. Looking around a bit online, it seems like the quad core is of no benefit (or lesser performance) than the dualie. That sql cannot take advantage of it yet. Is this accurate? If so, where do quad core CPU's shine at this point in time? View 14 Replies

I have a Quad Core Xeon right now that I had set up with RAID 1. I'm getting horrible Disk I/O rates for this drive, 1.57MB/sec sequential write speeds. I'm having slowdowns that seem to be database related and more specifically I/O related. I run both my webserver (IIS/ASP) and my database (SQL SERVER 2000) on this Quad Core Xeon box with 4GB RAM. The disk I/O is killing me. I see that I have plenty of CPU cycles and plenty of free memory. At this point I'd sacrifice RAID 1 for better performance.
Should I got with the Quad Core Xeon with 4GB RAM for this webserver/database server config or go with 2 Core2Duo servers with 2GB RAM each? View 14 Replies

I've spend some time today in reading about different Intel based processors. I'm learning fast (I didn't know too much about chips... untill now ) but there is something I still need to ask, since I didn't find an answer. So:
Which Quad-Core Xeon processor (from low cost ones) do you like more? ... Kentsfield, Yorkfield, Clovertown, Clovertown" (low voltage), Harpertown, Harpertown (low voltage). From waht I saw I could guess that Clovertown is the most popular...? View 4 Replies

Does anyone have an opinion on the Intel Dual Xeon Quad Core Clovertown versus the AMD Dual Core Dual Opteron? I'm assuming the Xeon is better. I recently put in an order for one, and I'm hoping I made the right decision (Yes I know it would have made more sense to ask before ordering but that's not how I roll) .
