Does anybody has an experience with running nmap from FreeBSD Jail?
Nmap runs on main host OK, but when I try to run it from jail... NO CHANCE! Still has some problem...

I just upgraded to the latest version of APF. I am running CentOS with the 2.6 kernel.
I added my ports to allow, started it up, and it does not seem to be blocking anything.
I get no errors on startup though. If i do an nmap, mysql shows up as open still. I can even telnet to it.
root@me [~]# /usr/local/sbin/apf -r
apf(6367): {glob} flushing

Successful Hosting or "unsuccessful hosting" as we like to call it destroyed our clients website. He had a php based site that corresponded with a perl script to generate user id #'s. Successful Hosting transfered his website to a new server running hsphere and suddenly not only did the perl script cease to work, but the dynamic forms and the mod_rewrite stopped working as well.
We have been working on this issue for two weeks to fix everything that has been done and finally yesterday we had everything working. I was downloading the entire website for backup and at the same time, successfulhosting restored a corrupt version of the website, which is what I ended up downloading. The restore also deleted thousands of client files from his site because it overwrote folders that had files in them with folders that were empty.
On top of this it takes a week for them to complete a simple support ticket and you CANNOT get anyone other than a level one tech on the phone. And the only thing the level one tech can do is write down your complaints and send them to someone else.
We have had to move all of the clients data onto our server so we can start from scratch without interference from successful hosting.

I've been trying to track down Alex Brecher, who I understand sold Successful Hosting to Navisite some months ago, regarding a project I did for him that I'm still owed some funds on.
Unfortunately, I've not been able to contact him by any means. The telephone number I had for him rings with a busy signal, he doesn't answer e-mails on what seems to be his current e-mail address (it was last updated a couple months ago on Plaxo), etc. I even tried sending a fax (which I think got through), but no reply... And sending him a message on LinkedIn ended off with him seemingly deleting me from his contacts :-|
Anyhow, I'm not one to leap to assumptions, but I get the distinct impression perhaps he doesn't want to talk to me -- which seems relatively absurd to me considering it was a relatively small project in any event. So I thought maybe someone here who is more familiar with the situation involving Successful Hosting's sale may be able to help me out in finding him, or at least give me a bit more insight :-)

What difference between yum install php or manually install php from scrach (build, make and install)?
I know manually install could configure lots of parameters and paths, like --iconv, --mbsting, etc. I don't know anything behind yum install php. If I want to install php everything in the following:
./configure --prefix=/usr/local/webserver/php --with-config-file-path=/usr/local/webserver/php/etc --with-mysql=/usr/local/webserver/mysql --with-mysqli=/usr/local/webserver/mysql/bin/mysql_config --with-iconv-dir=/usr/local --with-freetype-dir --with-jpeg-dir --with-png-dir --with-zlib --with-libxml-dir=/usr --enable-xml --disable-debug --disable-rpath --enable-discard-path --enable-safe-mode --enable-bcmath --enable-shmop --enable-sysvsem --enable-inline-optimization --with-curl --with-curlwrappers --enable-mbregex --enable-fastcgi --enable-fpm --enable-force-cgi-redirect --enable-mbstring --with-mcrypt --with-gd --enable-gd-native-ttf --with-openssl --with-sendmail=/usr/sbin/sendmail

to installing linux software and have been beating my head for a couple of days. I just learned that I can use something on my CENTOS 5 - which is the same as RHEL 5 - to install the rpm and all dependencies.
Numeric-24.2-1.i586.rpm is the rpm I want to install, if that matters.
How can I do install it AND any dependencies?

So i have a dedicated server and here are the specs:
AMD64 X2 7750+
8192 MB DDR2 RAM
500 GB 7.200 RPM
2000 GB Traffic p/m
CentOS 5.3
I want to install several VPS's on this server so i have one for shared users, one for reseller users and then the rest can be purchased. Unfortunately i have no idea how to install VPS's. Which is the best visualization software for VPS's? And how do i install and how to get whmcs to create them. Or are they already created?
I am also wondering about control panels and do vps's have to have their own separate control panel or do they all run of the main control panel.
Also what is the rule of thumb on how many vps's per server.

I'm playing around with a test server, install Xen on a Centos 5 box.
[url]
I've tried two methods to create a vm.
virt-install
and
virt-install -x "ip=xxx.xxx.70.212 gateway=xxx.xxx.70.211 subnet=255.255.255.248"
If I do virt-install, it asks me this:
(first screenshot).
I have no idea what to put it. I did try this:
Quote:
IPv4 address: xxx.xxx.70.212__ / 255.255.255.248_
Gateway: xxx.xxx.70.211___________________________
Name Server: _________________________________________
note: only here in my post am I actually putting "xxx" in the IP for privacy reasons only. The 70.212 is the main server IP that I ssh into.
See 2nd screenshot for error. Same thing with various *valid* mirrors I tried.
This is my ifcfg-eth0 info:
DEVICE=eth0
BOOTPROTO=static
IPADDR=xxx.xxx.70.212
NETMASK=255.255.255.248
ONBOOT=yes TYPE=Ethernet

iptables v1.3.5: Unknown arg `-j'
Try `iptables -h' or 'iptables --help' for more information.
Error: iptables command [/sbin/iptables -A LOGDROPIN -j ] failed, at line 213
Rus over at CheapVPS assures me his servers support CFD/APF fully so its not something on his end and I've thought of everything on my end. Has anyone come across this problem before?
