i have installed ffmpeg + mplayer +flv and all other codecs in my dedicated box and even converted a sample video to flv. but how to i play the video in the clients browser? should i call mplayer from php.
just cant seem to understand this. i am planning to start a video website
I am developing a web application for a private investigative firm. They do surveillance work and therefore have surveillance videos. I would like the capabilities of uploading the videos online and allowing the client to login and view their surveillance video online.
Currently, we get the video from the PI, put it on a DVD and then mail it to the client.
This takes too long. We want the client to be able to view the video online.
Some of these videos can be up to 2 hours long.
First, is this even possible?
Second, - how much bandwidth would a website like this take? - Is there a host that can hold hundreds of GB of video?
I want to convert it to flash to save file size and also so I can stream it.
All the videos have been uploaded to << link removed >> and in there you will seea flash_video directory, in there should be a html file where you can double click and watch the flash video.
Now go ahead and try it, click on the HTML file and click CONTINUE and try clicking on MODULE 1.. You will see a video play to the left but on the right are bunch of POWERPOINT slides that will appear as the guy continues to speak. THAT DOESNT SHOW..

how I would be able to set up streaming video on a server for live video as well as archived videos? We've got a client who is requesting streaming events live, bandwidth on our end shouldn't be an issue however I'm wondering where I would start? I've done streaming audio before but I have never done streaming video.
What is the best CMS for streaming videos (kinda like youtube) that will allow me to upload bulk amount of videos to the server, instead of uploading them one by one.

I have a swf video player, when i load a page in explorer with the swf embeded into it.. the video begins to stream fine.. however if i try and change the explorer page the page wont change untill the entire video has been streamed.. anyone have any ideas as to why this is?... is this something wrong with
Does anyone own any video sharing websites? if so what hosting companies do you use. I cant afford a dedi yet as i want to grow but want to start out with VPS or shared
if it would be possible to video cast a video game match via remote desktop? I am trying to do some research to see if it would at all be possible. I've never really messed with it but from what I understand you need two pc's connected together. One setup as the "game" machine which follows around the players and watches the match. The second "capture" machine does just that, caputes all the video/audio that is coming from the game machine and uploads it to a streaming server where users can watch through WMP or whatever.
The biggest problem I see with this is if a person tries to video cast from their home connection the upstream would likely be crap. If the person where able to connect to a remote desktop and run the game on a huge backbone the upstream would be great. I don't know if this would work or not because of the delay between the actual client and the colo boxes.
I'm wondering if anyone can come up with any way to stream live video off my computer to my server. Then allow all my viewers to watch using my server rather than my own bandwidth.

I couldn't keep my mouth shut (technically fingers). A customer wanted to upgrade servers and he needed a way to move the data across. Since I don't allow hard drives to be swapped, they have to do it manually all by themselves. I generally allow up-to 4 days for them to transfer data and make DNS changes, etc. But this time, I offered help! I agreed to move the data (darn me) and it just came out of me, involuntarily.
God knows what just happened... but in a positive way, customer is extremely happy!

Both servers are on cPanel - with root access (duh)
200 odd files which total to 25 GB
1 database about 100 MB in size (no biggie)
I was planning on using one of my Windows 2003 servers (via remote desktop) to download the 25 GB and upload the 25 GB, but that sounds like a waste of resources and time.
I have a video streaming which is consuming around 3000gb of bandwidth presently its on citrex shared hosting i was thinking to move site to a dedicated box i have almost no knowledge of server setup are there some host who can help me setup these requirements and move site to dedicated box?

A client has contacted me about live streaming. He wants to broadcast a live meeting over the internet so that other people can watch it.
I've never looked in to something like this - I guess I need to find some software that will let me re-broadcast the stream - ie someone at the meeting would connect to my server and stream it up to the server, and my server would then broadcast it out to anyone who is connected.
So, what sort of software should I be looking at? Are there any guides around on the internet or anything that can help me out?
I have been looking through the forum, but I have had a hard time finding much about this topic. I am attempting to broadcast live video feed on my website and I wanted to set it up so people can view the live streaming video directly on their web browser. I use mostly Windows based servers(Windows 2003 Server and XP Pro). I have a client who wants to build a subscription online training site. This site will be hosting proprietary videos that need to be streamed (vs. downloaded).
Can anyone recommend a reliable hosting provider that:
Supports ecommerce
Supports streamed Flash video
Provides a way to control user's access to videos (only access what they've purchased)
I would like to know if there is anything specific I need to know before I open a video streaming site (Examples: Veoh, dailymotion, etc etc). Are there any laws or rules I should follow?
Plus regarding the copyrighted materials I remember there is a US law (I don't live in the US but whatever) that says after you get an email from the company that holds the copyrights regarding a video or whatever you've got some days (? or hours?) in order to remove that content and show "good will" following the rules (Safe Harbor) and they don't "harm" you. Anyone know more regarding this issue?
And one last thing. If I don't store users information (IPs, ISP, etc) which will show that they uploaded the video, in a situation of a copyrighted content will I get in trouble since I can't prove I didn't upload the files?
And last but not least any suggestions on the software and of course the most important the hosting company I should go with?
Just curious if any of you know of good ways to handle the bandwidth costs associated with hosting high traffic video sites.
For a future project I plan a dedicated server, but was hoping there might be a cheap way to avoid bandwidth costs - such as Amazon S3 (however from my calculations this is an expensive option).
I produce video. My clients want to put education archival video content (Windows media) for students on the web. At most 10 students a day will log on for a few hours.
I also have clients that want live windows media video streaming. Up to 50 users logging in at most for a 3 hour lecture, only a couple times a year at this point.
I'd like to use one company for the archival(on demand) and live web casting/streaming. Any ideas? Or should I just use 2 different hosting companies? Please tell me companies that you like and have used!
I have a client who wants a bulletproof video feature for his information/news site.
What's the best bet? Some of the FMS companies I've looked at give you 500 simultaneous streams for like $900/mo. What happens when #501 logs on? This is a series of sports events where they expect peaks on certain days, then long periods in between with lower, but still steady, traffic.
I'm a university designer trying to find hosting for a video textbook. I have about 330MB of videos framed in a single swf/html/js page.
Our course is about 300 students, and we'd expect the site to be largely dormant except for traffic spikes right before exams, when everyone will want to access the material.
We know nothing about linux images or server maintenance or anything required to use an unmanaged VPS. I'm mostly just concerned about having enough bandwidth not to upset ToS, but I'm unsure of what this actually translates to. Any hosting advice would be extremely appreciated, from specs we should look for to specific hosts. We're lost fishies!
i would like to start a video/movie streaming website on one of our U.S based servers. But i wanted to do some checking first.
These are the questions i have:
1. If i download torrent movies to my local PC am i allowed to upload them to our server? or if i have purchased the movie at home on dvd am i allowed to upload that onto the site? or is all that illegal?
2. Would this type of thing be useful?
I got the idea from those TV show websites around but when you try to watch the actual show there is all Japanese subtitles and they are full of adds and pop up's
