Anyone ever used Umbrahosting? A friend of mine found a coupon for an Umbrahosting VPS on WHT, and decided to get it. I've been managing it for him, and so far, they've been pretty good with answering support tickets, and the server itself is relatively fast.
Anyone else used Umbrahosting?

Currently I'm hosting my dedicated server with UmbraHosting and would write an review for the most important thing you need in hosting - support.
I am currently in my 3rd week but I was experiencing a small scale disaster.
The box is Atom 330 dedicated, it is good enough for my needs - at the moment.
Here is the story:
I was playing with Xen for 3 days and was not able to get the GuestOS installed. Since I wasn't being too successful with it at the moment I have rebooted from the Xen kernel to the normal CentOS 5.4 kernel, there I have added the additional IP address and configured it, modified the frub.conf to boot back to Xen kernel.
After the box has rebooted it wasn't giving ping and I was unable to SSH into it, after one power cycling it still wasn't able to access it in any way so I contacted the support.
After the ticket opening I had to wait exactly 1 minute for the answer from the support that they will be attaching a KVM to my box and investigating this issue.
After 18 mins I received that the issue was with Xen and Webmin being in a fight, and I have said that the OS can be reinstalled on the box since, at the moment I wasn't using it for production purposes.
When the OS was reinstalled on the server they have suggested that, if I want to use virtualization their admins would configure either Xen, OpenVZ or even install XenServer on the box.
I have gone with the OpenVZ for the moment and the installation was promptly done after which I was given an URL to their OpenVZ templates mirror.
In this occasion, if I may, I would like to thank Mr. Kelle Thomas for being straightforward with me and their superb support although I am on an unmanaged plan.
With their prompt replies, politness and intelligent suggestions they have made one client very satisfied and sure that he is getting the right suggestions.
The link to verify is [url] where the containers are running happily and waiting to be used to the fullest.

After my previous host went down, I decided to find a new web host. Upon searching through the offers section of WHT, I came across UmbraHosting (UmbraHosting.com). Upon spotting their offer, I used their live chat to talk to someone to see if I could get their promotion after signing up for one month first. This was fine and after the one month, I signed up for a year.
Uptime - So I've been with UmbraHosting since December 29, 2008. There were a few server downtimes (maintenance); however, there was sufficient notice given prior to it.
Support - Trouble tickets I have submitted were answered promptly and resolved within a reasonable time. I have opened tickets during the day and 5AM in the morning; they were all answered.
Price - Reasonable and competitive; some plan's seem a bit outrageous on the space/bandwidth.
Con's - Troubles with receiving e-mail; however, I suspect it has something to do with Yahoo Mail connecting to the POP3 settings and so forth.
Side Notes - Upon being with UmbraHosting, I wish they had a Webmail application like Windows web host have; however, that may be pushing it.
I would definitely recommend UmbraHosting to other WHT users, I will also be recommending them to my friends who soon will require a place to host their websites.
** I have reported the domain to the Moderators for review!

I have been hosted with umbrahosting for almost two months and I think they really deserve a good review now. Being cheap doesn't mean awful service all the time.
Umbrahosting is comparatively cheap but they provide some really good customer service since the very first day you start with them. While registering, I forgot to add a domain with my plan. After activating my account, I placed a ticket to the support system and they have registered the domain for me. I had subscribed for the bronze plan (which is 2.99 USD per month and using 20% off coupon, it came to almost 24 USD per year) -
Immediately after activating the account, I had placed some request to move to me to a MySQL5 enabled server, install svn for me so that I can checkout using SSH and I was very surprised that Umbrahosting support stuffs did it in max 6 hours.
I really think that such customer services are very good as these satisfied customers will bring many other customer for a hosting company. I have tried previously with dreamhost (in fact I still have a 5 yr hosting with them, arrrrrghhh) and umbrahosting was totally a test account that I have bought and I am very happy.
Thanks To webhosting talk forum from which I have got review of many other good hosting companies. And this is the time to post for some of them.

All i can say is, I'm very happy with Umbra Hosting. ./end review
Really,
I began as a UH customer in early June of 2008, by purchasing a shared hosting plan. Due to providing a mirror for another site, I required SSH access. In less then an hour I was given access and I was able to set up my mirror. I have since then changed plans and rarely, if ever, have I experienced any down time. To the best of my knowledge, the only 3 times in which I experienced down time were during personal DNS changes, IP changes, or 1 server change. In all cases, I was warned in advance.
Customer service has always been quick and friendly, even when I've been slow and less then friendly. Whether it's Sunday afternoon or 3AM in the morning, if I have a question or issue, it's answered within the hour. Rarely have I ever had to wait more then an hour.
Having tried many other companies for shared hosting, colocation, or VPS', I am very pleased with Umbra Hosting. I would certainly prefer investing in a smaller company, such as UH as opposed to Host Gator (especially when support is an issue).
I plan on sticking with UH for my shared hosting needs until I continue with colocation services.
I'll wrap this up:
1. Good pricing.
2. Good speeds / bandwidth (I offer creation science seminar DVD ISO's, so at times it's good to have a trunk)
3. Good customer service (They're not snobby / snooty geeks that laugh at you when you need help)
4. Fast ticket replies / customer service (rarely have I ever waited more then an hour)
5. Good uptime
If you're looking for a reliable and cost effective host, try Umbra Hosting

I initially signed up with Umbrahosting back last summer sometime in June. The migration was really smooth and my account was set-up within a few hours. My initial tickets were answered promptly.
The first few months up until December the service was just great. Server was fast and no problems. The few times i needed support they were there with an answer within a few hours max.
In January all of a sudden I noticed my main website not functioning properly due to GD missing. I was kind of surprised as they had compiled PHP with it a few months back.
Within a few hours my site was completely down for the next few hours. A few support tickets later and I find out that my domain was moved to a "brand new server" and I should have been notified about this way in advance. I received no such e-mail and no e-mail existed in their support panel listing all the service announcement e-mails sent out. They apologized and to show their commitment gave me 4 months of worth of coupons.
Within a week I started noticing DB connection errors all the times on my main website.
It was very very strange as I was hardly using any resources at the time for that website. There were time that nothing was accessible, not even cPanel or anything. Support kept telling me that it was due to maintenance being done, but it was clear that some kind of overselling was going on.
The next month I was charged twice for the same month. Once contacting their billing department they fixed it and refunded me the second charge and removed 2 coupons (no idea why but did not bother complaining as at this moment I had already begun looking for another host).
Issues with DB connections kept going and finally support promised to move me to a "new quad core". After 2 weeks of promises I was moved and low and behold a few days later same problems! Sites were crawling while they kept doing "maintenance" at random times of the day (12 in the afternoon EST, which is the same timezone where they are located).
Anyways to make a long story short, I have just moved my last domain from Umbrahosting and never ever thinking of going back. Even migrating away was such a pain, server was down again due to maintance and responses to support tickets was below satisfactory. To anyone that actually values their business presence I would recommend to STAY AWAY. They oversell like crazy, no question about it. The one thing they have going is response time to their support tickets. I really liked them in the beginning and was thinking of getting a VPS from them but my entire experience from that point on went downhill.

I'm in a little shock to see umbrahosting user (umbrahosting.com) to spam this forum with their hosting offers when the sites on their servers are down for DAYS now (mine has been down for about 2 days now). No customer support (unless they want you to pay them). Terrible experience overall.
