Smartd
May 15, 2008
I was having huge WA on my dedicated server ( upto 90 - 100 % ) most of the time.
So, i thought my Server HDD may be have IO issues, i am advised to run smartd that would tell me if there were any errors on the drive, as per my server provider.
Can someone advice on how to view results from smartd?
When i run smartd on SSH, i see no result..

How do you download and install smartd?
I have Centos 5, and can't figure out how to install it.
I've tried the follwing and they don't work:
Debian Linux:
# apt-get install smartmontools
Red hat/Fedora Linux:
# rpm –ivh kernel-utils
OR
# up2date kernel-utils
OR if you are using Fedora Linux
# yum kernel-utils
FreeBSD:
# pkg_add -r -v smartmontools
