I no u gotta added 2 lines in proftpd.conf but i can't seem to find it no where! here's my errors!

i really do not no there's a command for passive mode or something in proftpd.conf can't seem to find it no where!

Missing Data In Server Socket Application
i developed a socket application to recive data from port.this application recvng data from a unit through port no 4444(Vehicle Tracking unit). this application recvng data and evrything is ok....but some times no anydata is coming in to this application.for eg:if application recves data 2 days after that 2 days it will recve one or two data only....again after 2 days it will recve all data correcly....that means lot of missing data we have....my question is whether this missing data is bse of my socket application or unit? The manufacturing company telling us unit is sending the data continuiously..but some times this socket application is not recvng data in 2 days interval....i dont know how to solve this issue....is any other setting is required in server to recve data continuously.... i think socket application 100% is ok...unit maufactures telling unit also sending data continuously...then where the problem is???can anybdy share ur idea about this?

Ssh (client): No Route To Host
ssh is driving me CRAZY right now... On an almost stock CentOS 5.1 install (inside a Xen VPS, though), I changed sshd to listen on 2222 instead of 22 and restarted sshd. All of a sudden: Code: matt@t60:~$ ssh -p2222 64.191.108.xxx ssh: connect to host 64.191.108.xxx port 2226: No route to host I should note that I'm actively logged into that IP in another window, and that it responds to ping. There most certainly is a route. Yes, I've quadruple-checked that I have the right IP. And I use the -p2222 daily to connect to another machine. This is a virgin CentOS install; I just changed the "Port 22" line to "Port 2222" and restarted sshd (/etc/init.d/sshd restart). I am not behind any sort of firewall, unless CentOS installs one that I don't know about. (I own the physical hardware, not just the virtual machine.) I figured it had to do with this error in /var/log/secure Code: May 31 19:18:39 relay120 sshd[23359]: Server listening on :: port 2222. May 31 19:18:39 relay120 sshd[23359]: error: Bind to port 2222 on 0.0.0.0 failed : Address already in use. So I changed (uncommented) the ListenAddress directive to: Code: ListenAddress 64.191.108.xxx and restarted sshd again.

Socket F <-> Socket 940 Heatsinks
If you have a socket F m/b, does a socket 940 heatsink works nicely on a socket F m/b? I can fit the original socket 940 heatsink on a socket F m/b but I am not sure whether there are any cooling related problems? How Important Is The Data Center To Choosing A Host?
From testing, I've come to the conclusion that I get extremely fast page downloads from a host in the Equinix Center in VA. I'm in Western NY. I don't know if this data center is better than most or if I just happen to be in an ideal location for their service. I have a business that gets orders from the whole U.S., but a majority are in the East, especially the NE. Visitors come from everywhere in the U.S., but I'd like to keep the buying customers happiest. Page download speeds are very important to me and I'd like to keep them as fast as possible for my customers. How important is the data center used by a host going to be to my decision? Also, is there a way to find webhosts from a particular data center? Manually going to webhost sites to find out if they have servers in the Equinix center has been painfully slow.

After Trace Route, What Next ?
After Trace route whats the next thing to do ? When my ISP dynamic IP address is some like and starts with 112.0.0.0 I cannot see all sites on the server. So what I did run a tracert on DOS prompt. After 9 hops and reach this IP 216.18.239.6 everything timed out and it cannot reach my server. I already tested several Internet access and its reaching the server except my home DSL with the IP 112. I also checked if the IP is block on the firewall but its not present on the block list. I also mentioned this with my internet provider and still waiting for notification. what to do next?

what is needed is a dedicated server or colocation in which my portable IP space (a class c assigned to me in 1995) can be routed to in its entirety. We will then have a VPN back to our own site. This could be accomplished by the ISP BGP peering, or simply announcing the routes themselves. We've got clue in routing, both in OpenBSD and IOS. The machine doesn't have to be too powerful, and needs little storage space, but the bandwidth provided has to be decent. This is for a hobbyist rather than commercial project, so price is an issue.

Trace Route To New Site
I recently moved a customer's site to a new server. Everything went smoothly except for the fact my customer cannot access the new site. When he pings it he gets the right IP address but it just times out. The URL is regalfire.co.uk I asked him to run a tracert command and it seems to find the right path but stops just short of finding the server. The last server he connects to is ge-5-2.the.uk.euroconnex.net [87.127.231.90] which is the same as me. The next step is the actual server but for him it just times out. I can see the new site fine. His ISP is Virgin Media and I have asked several other customers with the same ISP and they can see the site OK. He has flushed his DNS cache and the problem remains. Does anyone have any ideas what I could try next?

How To Null Route China?
I use geoip so that if ($country="CN") { die(); } This works on my site. But for some reason I still get the occasional IP's through. I looked at my Lighttpd server-status and I have 600 connections from 3 different IPs that come from China. I typically use ./route add -host 222.221.81.3 reject as the way to block them, but it changes from time to time. The Chinese are using 90mbps of bandwidth and I want it to stop as they must be directly hotlinking my content. How to null route large blocks from China? Please note I want to keep Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan.

I am running Proftpd on my RedHat. I have disabled anonymous login because i dont need it and its running fine. I have created a user named test on the server and i try to connect it by typing ftp://myserver/ and then provide the id and pass. Now it logged-in successfully but cant access any directories on the server. i have been Google around but really getting confused how i properly create a ftp user i want the test user to access the following directories and he can be able to upload and download files from these directories /home/usman/public_html/ /home/usman/public_ftp/ /home/usman/cgi-bin/

This isn't a major problem but I was just wondering something regarding how ProFTPd functions. I have received a complaint about a user uploading a script, the script creating files and directories, and the user not being able to CHMOD, delete, rename, or do anything to these files. When files are created through scripts on my server, they are given a default owner permission with "www-data" for the user and group. Since ProFTPd is set up to only modify files on certain owner permissions according to the user's FTP access, ProFTPd will not allow any other owner permission and if any other owner permissions exist, ProFTPd will not allow those files to be modified or changed in anyway. Is there a way to fix this? I've been trying to figure it out but I can't. Just for note, I am using proftpd-mysql and so every user is linked through a MySQL database.

The php script is requested by the web browser and connects to the php server on the backend. Route Between Vlans In Same Subnet On BigIron
I'm looking for a solution that I can place a firewall between 2 vlans on a BigIron router with L3 enabled. For this moment there is one big vlan2 with a ip-route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 123.123.123.123 and a router-interface ve2 with the IP of the router, the address I use as gateway on the machines behind it. The WAN port has the IP address to communicate with to the GW of the carrier-router (123.123.123.122) Because I want to let the BigIron the routing I was thinking of 2 vlans, one for the lan-vlan and one for the wan-vlan, but this will be a problem because I only have one IP-block what I can use. So the sitiuation must be as follow on the BigIron: WAN => vlan2 => firewall => vlan3(lan) Because of the fact that the firewall will be transparent, this should be no problem to place it between the vlans. The actual problem is how to manage this. In simple words, I should be able to replace the firewall with a cross-cable and it should still work. Cisco for an example has a SVI solution for this, but I can't find such thing for a Foundry router.

Detecting Network Problem Along The Route
Is there any way to detect network problem/congesting along the route? Assumed that you only have a shell access to the server. I usually do tracepath/traceroute and ping each hop to see if there's any packet loss. It doesn't seem to be effective as many people say router will drop the packet when it's busy/overloaded depending on configuration.

Apache And Socket
I've a strange problem with my flashchat realized on php and xmlsocket. I premise that chat works fine with 100 concurrent user. But When the number rises, and I've been to 350 users at the same time, something happens to the server which makes the whole thing freeze. After I eliminated just about everything that can go wrong with the php side of things, we came to the conclusion that this must be something related to the apache, since if before the php socket server went bad on account of an error, we simply needed to relaunch the php again, and everything would start up and work just fine untill the next crash. We have a unix server, using Apache 2, php 4.something or 5 (but again, problem is not there), did anyone knows what this could be? are we passing some limit of sockets connections Apache has that we don't know about? a limit of data transfer we are breaking? my script, when running and holding on to 300 users, use about 2-3 Mbit of bandwidth, nothing to get excited about.

I have created a user called mic and made the home dir of the user /var/www/. then placed the user in the group ftpusers. Route From Level 3 To Qwest On The West Coast
I am looking at getting some Qwest bandwidth at 200 Paul, San Francisco. Not being too familar with Qwest's network and as part of evaluating that decision I did some testing to see how the routes/latency looked from various points on the Internet and from our other data centers. For pretty much all the testing I did from the major tier 1/2 networks, Qwest has great peering in places you would expect resulting is decent routes and low latency. The strange thing is that the one exception is routes from Level 3. As an example, traffic from various Northern California points on Level 3's network to a test IP on Qwest's network in Sunnyvale all go via Denver to connect to Qwest and then back to the Bay Area. For LA originating traffic, it goves via Dallas. Same thing for Seattle that is going via Denver. Hard to imagine these two tier 1 providers don't peer at any location on the west coast at all? Is this typical between these two or is there some temporary outage right now? Or is there some peering spat going on between them? Seems pretty silly for traffic to go 3,000 miles between points that are only 10 miles apart! Route By IP Address Over Tun0 - 'ip Rule Add From A.b.c.d'
Would anyone be kind enough to give me some pointers to route packets from a specific ip on my subnet via the tun0 OpenVPN interface, and all other hosts out the default route of the main routing table (192.168.1.1 on br0)? i.e. 192.168.1.2-9 -> via br0, and 192.168.1.200 -> via tun0 I have created the tables: mkdir /etc/iproute2 echo 201 table1 >> /etc/iproute2/rt_tables ip rule add from 192.168.1.200/32 table table1 But i am really stuck from here. I tried adding default routes in the table1 but all traffic stops at this point (i am pinging from the host 192.168.1.200 out onto the net, it works as soon as this command below is entered it times out): ip route add 10.19.0.5 dev tun0 scope link src 10.19.0.6 table table1 (not sure if this is needed - either way doesnt work with or without) ip route add default via 10.19.0.5 dev tun0 table table1 I did try: ip route add default dev tun0 table table1. and again that fails to work. I appreciate this isnt a guessing game hence moving to post here in hope of some expert advice. With OpenVPN setup to push the redirect-gateway option, all works well with the routing table and the box acts as a router sending everything through it (table shown below - this works fine apart from everyone is routed through it). As mentioned, I would like the tables default route below to only apply to the host 192.168.1.200. Mysql_mod Missing For ProFTPD
Trying to install ProFTPD with mysql, the problem is after installing it and adding the lines in the config file to use MySQL the service fails to start. The error Im getting is: "unknown configuration directive 'SQLAuthTypes'" So it seems like it doesnt recongize the function needed to use mysql with proftpd, which is in mysql_mod.c. I did proftpd -l and the mysql_mod.c was not listed, I did a search on the whole box and couldnt find mysql_mod anywhere. Im on Fedora Core 6 and tried to install proftpd with yum: yum install proftpd proftpd-mysql Do I have to compile from source to get this to work? Or did I miss installing something else that would have mysql_mod.c present? I currently have mysql installed and running, tested the login info I had in the config file and everything works on the mysql side.Silly

ProFTPd To Windows Over SAMBA
We've got a Linux box running ProFTPd reaches a Windows box over SAMBA. This works very well but when the client has a great number of files, the FTP Windows-based FTP clients they use don't always give accurate directory listings (if any at all). I know there's some bug in the way SAMBA works with Windows File Sharing but I don't know what the magic file number is that, when reached, prevents a proper directory listing. Does anyone know what this magic number is or if there's an available, tested fix for this?

Does OER = Less Internap BW And Less Route Science & FCP
As we are finishing our migration plans to Cisco OER. I would like to get everyone's thoughts on the low latency "brand name" internap bandwidth. Do you think that the high priced brandname is going to continue with Cisco finally releasing OER to what a large number of datacenters use as their primary core switch? In my eyes the FCP and the Avaya/RouteScience platform just lost a lot of value. What Is Best Socket Am2 940 Cpu
I am working on doing some various upgrades to my workstation computer. I got it back in Nov and have been adding to it every since. The motherboard was bad when I first got it so I had to buy a new one. I already had an athlon 5600 so I figured I would get the mobo for that. Upon advice from various people I got the abit kn9 sli, for socket am2 940 processors and nvidia nforce 570 sli mcp I am wanting to upgrade the processor now but I havent really found much info on what would be the highest level processor I could drop in. I know the phenoms dont work and some have told me that the athlon 6400 would be the biggest i could drop in but that isnt much more then I have now so would be no point.
