I have a domain name registered: someting.com
How can I map this domain to tomcat? I have static IP.

Web Host For Map Tiles
We are a mapping software developer that does a lot of web hosting ourselves. Our new web applications have map caches which consost of a series of "tiles" which are 512 x 512 pixel images ranging from 10 -100k in size. I am trying to find options that will be able to host about 500gb worth of these tiles and serve them very quickly. I am not sure what our options are, and whether using something liking amazon s3, or cachefly is worth the extra cost for what we are trying to do. It looks like the minimum number of tiles requested at a time would average about 1000/minute for peak usage. Would one of the cheap hosts, like dreamhost provide better performance than hosting this ourselves? I don't know if we would run into bandwidth issues with our current environment.

Map Network Drive By Using Samba
This is a little samba guide from my own experiences of how to map a network drive under windows 2000 to a Linux server. I am not technical expert and this guide is the result from my trail and error. What's Samba? Samba allows Linux computers to share files and printers across a network connection. By using its SMB protocol, your Linux box can appear in Windows Network Neighborhood or My Network Places just like any other windows machine. You can share files this way, as well as printers. By using samba on my home network, for example, my Windows machines have access to a printer directly hooked up to my Linux box, and my Linux box has access to a printer directly hooked up to one of my Windows machines. In addition, everyone can access everyone else's shared files. You can see how samba can be very useful if you have a network of both Windows as well as Linux machines. My OSs Windows 2000 RHEL 3 (Redhat Enterprise Linus) My goal Map a network drive to Linux servers, so that I can access the Linux files under windows 2000. Installation Most Linux should have Samba already installed. But if it hasn't install, you can find at in http://rpmfind.net or using up2date command "up2date -i samba". You can also get it at http://www.samba.org Then you can install it by tying the following Command: Install: rpm -i samba.rpm Upgrade: rpm -U samba.rpm Configuration Samba conf file is located at /etc/samba/smb.conf, allows you to specify which resources on the Linux machine you wish to share and who they can be accessed by. Samba provide a full version conf if it's fresh install. But most of the times, we don't really need all of these options. So I provide my own conf here, which is rather simple, but it makes things work. [global] workgroup = WORKGROUP server string = LinuxBOX hosts allow = your_windows_machine_IP log file = /var/log/samba/%m.log security = user encrypt passwords = yes smb passwd file = /etc/samba/smbpasswd socket options = TCP_NODELAY SO_RCVBUF=8192 SO_SNDBUF=8192 [Downloads] comment = Downloads path = /path_to_your_sharefolder browseable = yes writable = yes public = yes read only = no [homes] comment = My Home Directory browseable = yes writable = yes public = yes read only = no [printers] path = /var/spool/samba public = yes guest ok = yes printable = yes browseable = yes writable = yes read only = no Just replace workgroup to your windows workgroup name, your_windows_machine_IP and /path_to_your_sharefolder. If you don't need printers sharing, you don't need to have printer section. Setup Samba Users Since we're using user level security, we need to setup samba users. This can be easily done by using Webmin. You can go to Server --> Samba --> Convert Unix users to Samba users, you can just covert all your existing Linux users and set them password under the icon "Edit Samba users and passwords" later. If you don't use webmin, you can also type the following command: cat /etc/passwd | mksmbpasswd.sh > /etc/samba/smbpasswd smbpasswd username Replace username with each of your user's usernames. You will then be prompted to enter a password for this user account. Samba Service Now, it's time to start your samba server: service smb start service smb stop service smb restart Once the computer is restarted or shutdown, the samba service won't start up again in next boot up. I use webmin to make it startup at boot time. Windows 2000 Configuration 1. Under windows 2000, you can got to windows explorer --> Tools --> map a network drive 2. select drive letter 3. enter the path (e.g. your_server_ipDownloads) 4. click connect using different user name 5. enter your samba usernaem and password that you just set 6. You can connect to your Linux machine now! This method work for me. If there is any correction or improvements, please let me know.

CNAME Map On Mydomain.com To Anotherdomain.com
I am simply wanting to map on mydomain.com to anotherdomain.com. So i setup a CNAME on mydomain.com. Once propagated mydomain is not being picked up and is defaulting to the cpanel successfully installed screen. I have tried this on another of our servers and this does work. So my question is: can you use a CNAME to map mydomain.com to anotherdomain.com without having to add the mydomain.com to the apache VirtualHost ServerAlias? It does seem like you can as i have this working on one server - is there an apache setting somewhere to block this? Thanks in advance!

Map Failed Software Raid Disk In Windows?
I took two harddrives out of a windows 2003 server and imported them as foreign disks in my pc the problem is... when i imported them as foreign disks, windows xp decided to mark every partition on both disks as failed... even though it hasn't failed. Problem is now, i cant map to a drive... i need to do this so i can do an NT backup from the data off the drive, then restore that data to a new drive. Url I See Doesn't Map To File Layout On Server.
I've been asked to update a site whose web author is no longer available. I have the ftp details, but when I ftp in I can not see a structure that matches the URL I see when visiting the site through a browser. A sample URL is http://www.****.org/~issw2004/issw_general/2006.php But the file structure I see when I go into the server using ftp, has issw2004 way down the directory, with no ~ preceding it (what does the ~ mean?), and it is empty of files or children folders. I've tried doing a global search of the site for both the file name, and some text that that file contains, but both return empty. So, I'm stuck. I know little about URL rewriting, and apart from knowing that files can be hidden or paths rewritten, don't know where to start in 'finding' the file I need to change!

Reverse Domain Name Server (DNS) ARPA For Domain On VPS
I have a vps with dedicated ip's for my domain names. I read that in order for mails coming from my server not be picked up as spam, i need to add reverse ip entries. Now i have already added the glue nameserver records on my godaddy control panel, ns1.mydomain.com -> 10.20.30.40 ns2.mydomain.com -> 10.20.30.41 But do i need to speak to the datacenter to add the reverse dns entries for my domain on their nameservers? What about if i host my nameservers offsite, but then have my webserver/mailserver etc inside the datacenter? Would i need to request the datacenter where the nameservers are hosted to add the reverse ip entries for the domain, and then the request the same from the datacenter for my web/mail servers to add the reverse entries? Is it really required?

Domain Parking - Wildcard Domain Name Server (DNS)?
We have a lot of unused domains that we'd like to setup domain parking for. To keep it simple, we'd like to just change the namesevers to ns1.domainparking.com and ns2.domainparking.com (not real nameservers!) and the domains would then automatically show a simple web page. We use cpanel servers and are wondering how easy this is to do? I've seem mention of wildcard dns? Is that the answer?

i have about 8 different domains i'd like to point to a nameserver (ns1./ns2.mydomain.com) on Win2k3 server, but i can't get them resolved through my nameserver without creating a manual forward lookup entry for each *parked* domain separatly.. Does anyone know how to resolve "parked" domains automatically on Win2k3 DNS?? I just can't find any answer for this, everything i've found required manual creation of lookup entries.. anyone?

Got two questions as I think about setup. 1) 32 bit or 64bit? 2) Regarding host names and server assignemt...I can either assign it as a node to a domain hosted elsewhere in a reseller account, or I can start with a completely unused domain which is currently parked. Any preference, in an ideal world? Getting Www.domain.com To Work, Domain.com Resolves Correctly, Just Not With Www
Okay guys, a quick question for all the gurus out there. I'll admit I'm a bit embarassed posting such an easy question, but give a guy a break, I've been using managed servers for god knows how long and I've finally decided to take a dive into administration. Everything is firewalled and secured properly, I'm just having trouble getting the ServerAlias to work right. What happens is I go into my browser and enter in [url]walaa! It works. Now, when I enter in [url], it does not resolve. I have checked with "dig" the domain settings and it looks as though all of the nameservers are set up fine, this is an apache problem. I'm running apache 2.2 on Ubuntu 7.10 for all those who are interested. hI am trying to setup a personal photography portfolio, at mhbgd.com It is registered @ dynadot. For some reason, it forwards to dynadot at the moment, atleast for me. I dont have the domain forwarded in the settings, it is set to the proper nameservers and the hosting account is created on my server. I contacted dynadot and she said it took her to the default cpanel directory page. She suggested that it was a cache issue with my ISP.

i have had a domain which is a .co.uk when i first registered it, it was ok it redirected to my other domain and came up on google fine. The other day i decided to update the meta description and keywords within my 1and1 control panel. After i had did that i updated and resubmitted the url and description to google uk. Normally after updating it, i expected it to go down from google. Then eventually it has come back up again on google uk with the Description changes i had made. But the thing is the url redirection is showing wrong under google uk search for some reason, and after i click its going somewhere totally different. If you put in: "desi forum" under google UK you will see that i appear at the bottom instead of the top like before, but thats another matter, anyways.. the url redirection is showing: www.desiforum.co.uk/~giga/forums when ~giga/forums this does not even exisist... i checked within my domain cp and everything seems to be fine and is being redirected correctly that is if i enter www.desiforum.co.uk.

I have one domain that is showing page not found. The dns entry is there, the httpd virtual container is there, dns line is there in cpanel user file and whois shows the domain pointing to the proper server. It is using the default server IP as well and has no .htaccess file. The public_html is chmod 750 default. There are no redirects either. Using cpanel / centos

Domain Mapping
I have website www.mydomain.com on apache. I want user when typing that URL it redirect to www.mydomain.com/home immediately. Do I need to change the DNS to do this, if yes, how? or if I only need to configue Apache do to this.

I have a new domain for an online store which I am trying to map to a certain web server(launchsplash_com) for just their Launch Page to show up as homepage when my website is accessed (the ecommerce software has its own default homepage, which I prefer not to show up). The registrar for the domain is Godaddy but hosting is done with a different company - Server Intellect. The issue is mapping my domain to Launchsplash's server does not seem to work. And I am not sure if I am doing the right settings through the host control panel. As per LaunchSplash company's instruction - I create a CNAME record name - www_mydomainname_com and CNAME record data - mydomainname_LaunchSplash_com Since the domain is not being hosted with Godaddy, the total dns control for making dns changes is disabled in godaddy control panel. I do not wish to do the forwarding option, since that shows up the forwarded domain name.

Cannot Resolve Any Domain Name
I am new to the dedicated servers. I have just upgraded myself to a dedicated machine. I am getting error "couldnt resolve host" at every domain name when I type like wget http://google.com wget http://yahoo.com I searched over internet and found some people telling that I should put nameserver to /etc/resolv.conf? nameserver <ip here> nameserver <ip here> I dont know what IP to put here or if it is a solution to my problem.
