Review Of BodHost.com VPS

Jun 2, 2008

I have had a VPS at bodhost for 2 months now.

Setup took about 8 hours and pricing is reasonable from what it looks on the page.

I have their "Linux VPS Corporate" package which is supposed to have burstable RAM of up to 4GB. When I started using my VPS I realised it had no burstable RAM whatsoever. I contacted them, and they told me not to worry. I left it 2 days, still this was not fixed. After about 10 tickets and hours on the live chat, they finally tell me that their nodes do not support burstable RAM and said they would remove it from their website. A month later their website has not changed, and people are still not getting all of what they pay for.

Their online support is always there, but they are useless and cant fix most things.

Ticket support is slow, and it takes ages for things to be fixed.

I can't complain about uptime, as far as I know their network hasn't gone down yet.

My conclusion about this host is that if you don't know much about how to run and setup a server, don't bother with bodhost. Any problem you have, you are better off sorting out yourself as the support is so useless. Once everything is setup and sorted, it is ok.

I give this host an overall 4/10 rating.

REVIEW: Bodhost.co.uk

Jul 28, 2007

I have placed order for cpanel vps at bodhost.co.uk 2 days back. There online verification call person told me that my vps will be up in 20 min. But nothing happened.

After 2 hours, i discussed with there telephonic support person and he was unable to fetch my account information although i was logged into there billing panel. After 10 min call, phone just hanged up. I tried to call again but no one picked up my call.

Then i asked there online chat support and they finally fetched my account information. They told me account has been setup and email is already sent to me. I checked my email both primary and secondary but nothing was there. I asked them to resend and they told me its sent again on both email ids but still nothing. Do note, my secondary email is on gmail.com

Today after 36 hours, i asked them again that there is no email. Finally they sent me email at my gmail id and i have received the information.

Now the second part comes, i just tried to login to WHM account so that i can check and setup things and it gave me Cpanel License issue. I again asked there support and person told me that they will do it. Right now they are installing fantastico and other softwares on the vps (don't know which one).

Now its more than 48 hours, there telephonic support is gone, there online chat support is gone and my vps is still not working.

I have now added some support tickets, lets see when do i get a reply. I will keep you people updated.

MY Recommendation: Never ever try bodhost.co.uk, they are telling lies and totally unprofessionals. Keep away from them.

Bodhost Review

Oct 27, 2008

I recently moved from Bodhost to Futurehosting after having been with Bodhost for only 8 months or so. My initial experience with Bodhost was good. I talked to a sales rep who understood my wishes, my VPS was set up fast and they worked hard moving my sites from my old host (Mediacatch, good company, left because I had outgrown them, not because of issues) which was more difficult than it should because of some odd database issues that made backups impossible - databases were corrupted every time. In the end, I had to do the databases myself, but not before Bodhost support had tried many, many things. On top of that, the server was -very- fast and was able to handle our busiest time ever without any problems. Support proved to be quick and incredibly helpful and I still miss Bodhosts great online Live Support now that I am with Futurehosting.

Right from the start though, I asked for automatic billing to be set up. My multiple requests were ignored by the billing team and when they weren't, they were vague saying "sure, we'll set it up for next month's cycle' and nothing happened. Disaster struck when they changed their billing software. Their mails that an invoice was ready to be paid were not sent out, the reminders were not sent out, the "we're about to cancel your account" mails were not sent out. Their process from "invoice ready" to "we'll cancel" is very short so I found myself staring at my dead sites one day. They had been dead for 8 hours. Contacted support, they told me I had been shut off, raged at the billing department, paid my bills and was reconnected. Eight hours of downtime during the busiest time of the day.

Unfortunately the above wasn't an isolated incident. They did it again. I talked (raged for 20 mins first) to sales that time. I also needed a bigger package and they assured me that they would take care of it all and that it wouldn't happen again. Support moved my sites but before I was able to even put the nameserver changes in with my registrar, Billing closed my old account after having received a note from support that my sites had been moved. No one bothered to check with me if it all was okay and I raged again. A notification of the closing of the old VPS was sent 10 minutes before it was closed which was 30 minutes after I went to bed. My sites were down until morning (I'm in Europe).

A few days later, my sites were down for 8 hours due to MySQL failing on my VPS. During the previous issues I had asked repeatedly why support had not noticed that my sites had been down. Afterall, the package said '24x7 server monitoring'. Maybe I was naive in thinking that included the server processes, a lesson learned. I felt it was misleading advertising and asked for them to set it up or give me a discount so I could set it up somewhere else. No such arrangement could be made and Bodhost felt that there was nothing misleading about it.

So, I ended up leaving. If my experiences with the billing department had not soured my trust in Bodhost, I would probably have set up the server monitoring elsewhere and had stayed a bit longer. Sales and support really went out of their way to make up for the unforgivable mistakes of the billing department and as I said, the server was very fast.

Bodhost is now able to set up recurring billing which goes a long way in circumventing the billing department (once set up correctly). If you are willing to take the chance with their billing department, Bodhost offers fast servers and top notch 24x7 support by mail, phone and Live Chat.

Because of their billing department having such an incredible impact on their total service (down 34 hours in a 6 week time span, 26 of which caused by billing) I can't give Bodhost a high mark.

Server: 9/10 (normally very stable, always very fast)
Support: 9/10 (fast, always there and very helpful)
Billing: 0/10 (utterly hopeless and saying 'sorry' is fine the first time, accidents happen, but not the second and not the third)
Overall: 6/10
