How To Detect Raid Harddisk Specs From Command Line
how can i remotly( SSH) figure out what kind of raid controller is on my system?! and how many harddisks my system has and what size?! I am working on Linux( Centos4) if i do #df -h then i get 146 G so if my system has raid1, does it mean that the harddisk is 2 X 146 G? or i should actually see it as 146 / 2?

Clear A Specific Email Account In Cpanel Or A Command Line Way
I just recently logged into my user email account "the one which was created by the name of the user of the account" and found it had 8000 emails but none are showing up in either horde or squirrelmail. How can i delete all these emails without deleting the other bla@domain.com emails? Is there a way just to clear a specific email account in cpanel or a command line way. I think if i just delete the mail folder it would kill all the emails of that account and I just want to 'reset' that one.

Zip From Command Line
Im trying to zip up an sqlite database backup. I execute this command Code: zip ../d/db/backup.zip ../d/db/09-02-15.sqlite backup.zip never appears. Instead, I get some random filename in the directory. Like ziOHokOw If I try to zip a smaller file(last weeks backup) everything runs fine? Code: zip ../d/db/backup.zip ../d/db/09-02-08.sqlite So the 134mb file zips fine, but the 200mb one seems like its failing and im left with some type of temporary file. I tried downloading the weird filename and unzipping it. It has partial info like directory structure, the filename but the actual file inside is corrupt.

Ip Adjustment Via Command Line
Got a centos / cpanel box. Had to change the block of IP's with an entirely new block of 8. Problem is I cannot access cpanel/whm due to this, but only via ssh. If I run the below, it shows the old IP's /etc/init.d/ipaliases start How do I replace the old block with the new? I've never done it via command line before.

I have been looking around for a new shared host, I am currently with GoDaddy =( And it would be helpful to have command line access for some things I am trying to do. Particularly with Zend Gdata API (which GoDaddy has trouble with anyway) Is this reasonable to ask for? I also need at least 150GB/month bandwidth for some relatively high quality streaming video.

Website Backup Over Command Line
We have a dedicated server, with chroot access enabled. We are wanting to backup each site on this server, as well as all mysql dbs on a weekly basis. Is it possible for us to run a cron job to do this? If so, what commands would we want to use? We have a local FTP server here, so would like to ftp these backups this machine. I know it all sounds a little vague, but I just need to know where to get started.

BackupPC Restoring Files Without GUI Or Command Line
I got our server staff to install BackupPC on our dedicated server and run daily backups. All is well (from what I can tell) but i've come to a point where I want to actually use an archived file. So I jump into my ftp client, navigate to the backup folder, and download the file. The problem is, the file reads as jibberish. I'm assuming that BackupPC has compressed it. So the question is two-fold: 1. How do I decompress it on windows (command line stuff is well beyond me) 2. Is there any browser/windows apps that I can use to manage the backups?

Granting MySQL Command Line Permissions To A User
Is there any safe way to grant command line permissions to a user/specific account? One that only allows them access to databases on their account. The problem is that this user intermittently runs queries that cause their database to hang (including PHPMyAdmin, so they can't view the processlist through there), and I have to manually kill that process, because they can't. Server is 2.4.21 with MySQL 4.0.27, admin is cPanel WHM.

Server For A Video/file Sharing Website
I have no intention of trying to make some video/file sharing website. Some people might recognize me as being somewhat cynical in my replies to the people who post these sorts of messages. What I'm curious about is, after having occasionally told people "You'll make significantly more money throwing the money you intend to waste on this project into a traditional investment..." I still see new people every week asking for the same help. Now, I understand very few people are going to give up their dream and just throw in the towel because some random guy says their dream is stupid, they are stupid, and may god have mercy on their soul... But, I don't (always) necessarily try to dissuade people from starting this sort of project simply to be a prick. What I'd like to find out is if there are any people out there who've created a successful video/file sharing website who'd like to help others out... Like, what advice they would have for people who want to get into starting a similar site. How much bandwidth does your site use? What's the URL? How are you making money from the site? How long did it take for your site to make a profit? etc etc... Alternatively, if you've tried to start a video/file sharing website and given up on those plans... Why did you end up giving up? What problems did you run into?

DDOS Deflate On A Static Video File Server
I am using DDOS Deflate [url] I have a problem with NO_OF_CONNECTIONS. The default is 150 For example, if a website has 200 thumbnails in one page, then the user will get banned. But in my case, each time a user have only 1 connection(He only access 1 flv file each time). So, is that safe for me to decrease the number to 20. I can see a lot of IP having more than 80 connections, which I think they are ddos attack.

For File And Video Sharing : Dedicated Or Joyent / Amazon S3
I'm building a kind of a file sharing site also with video conversions ( convert a full DVD to flash and stream) and if i can find more ideas, even more features. It won't be free (i'm not sure which way to go though, subscription-based or pay per bandwidth + storage) and it will support download managers. I'm not sure which way to go : Joyent or dedicated servers with RAIDs. If i distribute files over servers, and a users wants the files to be converted to flv etc., it will increase the server load, ( and if i put a lot of users in 1 server it will increase the load even more) so it won't be very good. So i thought SAN for this, but couldn't find any hosts serving it ( especially for a reasonable price ). Joyent is close enough (Amazon S3 is very very expensive), but although bandwidth and storage prices seem good, server power is low ( and very expensive if higher ) Which way should i go?

Script To Limit File Size On Video Share Server
We have found that we need to limit the amount of cpu uage by users on our video share server. On this server we currently have 20 users on a sharred plan. Thought that the obvious BW usage would be the biggest challenge, as it turns out we havent gone over the 2 TB that we have. We have come up with an encoding process that uses the 264 codec and gives us excellent results in terms of quality but is very cpu intensive to the point of really slowing down the server when 10 or more users simutaneously are encoding their videos. Can someone suggest a script that would allows us to limit the file size in terms of MB/GB that each user could upload per month. So for example a client pays 10.00 per month and we wanted to limit their uploads to a total of 900 MB per month vs the client that is paying 50.00 per month who would have the ability to upload say 8 GB per month. Collecting Data From A File On Another CPanel Account
I have a problem with a function on my cPanel server where one client is trying to collect informations from a file on another account on same server. And this suddenly stops to work. Once reboot of the server corrected the problem but it is back after just couple of days. Here are details. On account www.BLUEaccount.com there is a file index.html and within this file there is a code: $fcontent= file_get_contents[url]; and the problem is that index.html file on BLUEaccount.com is not loading because it seems can not collect data from data.tmp file from REDaccount.com But when we take this data.tmp file directly into directory of the index.html file on BLUEaccount, everything work OK.

Audio Streaming / Music Download
An interesting question recently came up during a discussion which I wasn't too sure of the answers / replies being discussed - perhaps some members may be kind enough to enlighten me on. The question is: What would the preferred / best practice be for a website wanting to stream audio (say some sort of music they have created) be? A) Stream it from their own dedicated server (any advantages / downsides)? (assuming bandwidth is unmetered @ 100Mbps) B) Stream it through a streaming media provider (any advantages / downsides)? C) Make it availalbe as a download as opposed to streaming it from their own server? Now, the issue is that the content is commercial - i.e. users wanting to download / listen to it would need to pay a fee - i'm not sure if streaming providers would handle payment processing, etc? Any finally, assume the delivery platform to be a LAMP environment.

WHM Not Listing Account, DNS Etc, Missing Files, File System
I recently had an issue where my box wasnt listing accounts (on logging into WHM for the first time it would, thereafter browsing different functions in WHM it would fail to list any accounts), would not list any zone items when editing DNS zones and in general was acting very strange. I think the tech support chap narrowed it down to zero free inodes on the filesystem (i was even getting errors when editing files with 'vi'). This was increased for the VPS and all issues seemed to be resolved... However named and httpd were not starting after reboots. Again on looking closely named and httpd were missing from /etc/init.d (on CentOS 5.3)! This is very strange and i certainly didnt modify those nor delete such critical files. For a second opinion, is there any cPanel script that can be ran to fix the issues, i am concerned other things have been affected but havent manifested themselves yet (other files deleted etc). Does cPanel update script create the init.d files or is this done by the CentOS operating systems itself? Are these files modified during a cPanel update script? These init.d files for named and httpd have been readded (copied across from another box) and it seems to be ok again, but ideas on howto proceed much appreciated, as i mentioned i dont want any nasty supprises!

Detect Errors On Server
I have a server of my own. Unfortunatlly 20% of the time, the server is down even though my connection to internet always up. I am checking the event log but cannot see anything odd... OS:Windows server 2003 Is there any tool to detect why the server is down most of the time? I can post the event viewer errors that I can find suspeicious if needed.

How To Detect A DDoS Attack ...
is there any proved method to determine what kind of attack you are under? Our server has been under attack for more than a day now but so far we have not been able to find out what kind of attack it is exactly. The server maintence company we are using says it's a DDoS attack but they don't say how they found this out. Also, they are not telling us what kind of DDoS attack it is.

Host Ability To Self Detect
Do web hosts have the means to self-detect or self-correct problems with people's websites? If so, is there a name for this ability? Seems that every host I've used has to be *told* about major problems, such as the server or database being down completely. I'm tired of going out of town fearing a site crash. I don't expect them to catch every problem, but when the failure is so blatant, it would be nice if they caught it... How would I find a host who does this?

On one server which i have sometime appear very high load up to 70,and that causing downtime of few minutes(i have historic data webmin module where i saw high load and downtime time matches,but it doesn't show what causing it).That server also have hardware raid in mirror mode.(copies exact data from one disk to another).
