CPanel And Host Name

Can I have the hostname as domain.com instead of sub.domain.com? Would it cause any problem in cPanel server?

Web Host Without CPanel

Apr 18, 2008

Does anyone know a dependable web host; with: good up time (99% or better), not to expensive ($12 or less per month), PHP 4 & 5 capable, MySQL capable, includes option for phpMyAdmin add-on or comes pre-installed, and does not have C-Panel (that has it's own simple file manager and file editing capabilities)? I am used to using Yahoo Web Hosting's / GeoCities Pro's file manager and I have tried out C-Panel before; I guess I got spoiled by Yahoo file managers, because I really don't much care for C-Panel (although I know a majority of web host use it now). I would stick with Yahoo; but they have been having trouble loading PHP pages for about the past year and a half. So I have been thinking about moving away from their services to another web host, but I want a very simple file manager like Yahoo Web Hosting/GeoCities Pro currently has. If anyone knows of a host that meets my requirements above; please let me know.

Also; I was thinking about going with FastNext, because they have Windows Servers; that have Helm Control Panel. Has anyone ever used Helm and is it more like C-Panel or more like Yahoo type file managers or completely different then either one? Has anyone ever used FastNext; is it a good service?

CPanel Host W/FrontPage & ASP

Nov 15, 2007

I like the features and usability of BlueHost.com, however they don't seem to support ASP.

Can anyone recommend a site that has the features (and reliability) of BlueHost.com that also has ASP?

I use FrontPage for creation, updates and FTP, and I also use EarlyImpact's ProductCart shopping cart system (written in ASP). Our company's website is approximately 75-80Mb in size and I don't have the stats on what our bandwidth usage is.

To properly use & work with ProductCart, I need to have server access where I can upload and run installs and various other applications as if it were on my own local machine. From what I saw from using BlueHost's demo with cPanel, it seems to fit the bill of what our company needs except for the ASP thing.

CPanel/WHM To Host A Website

Oct 7, 2007

am trying to set it up to host my website. After giving it the ol' college try, I might have done it, I think. I wanted input about what I have done wright and/or wrong configuring the VPS and cPanel/WHM? Please let me know what else I need to post (MX record, A records, DNS zone files, etc...)?

So far I have done:
- Initial set up of WHM
- Created a new account
- Added additional IP address t o the server
- Edited the DNS zone file
- Set up nameservers with registrar, godaddy.com

*I think this is done correctly, if I go to (www).mysite.com, I see:
Index of /
Parent Directory
Private
etc...

**I used a guide posted at (www).hostlibrary.com (link at bottom)

Can You Get Decent Cpanel/whm Host For Under $50 A Month

Jul 30, 2007

I currently have a server setup with about 10 domains, serving around 4million pages a month to around 110,000 unique visitors.

1 of those domains serves around 99% of the traffic, so I want to move the other domains onto their own server.

I'm looking for a hosting package that offers cpanel/whn interface and the ability to add new hosts. I had a quote from ThePlanet for a very reasonable $89 a month, for a Celeron 2.0 with 512MB RAM.

Reliable, Secure, Non-oversold, Non-cPanel Host

Jan 3, 2009

I've used many webhosts over the years and have run into various issues from which I've compiled my key wants:

Reliability - availability of mail & web are both just as important - I've had a few hosts who have great HTTP uptime, but mail can go down for hours and is not covered by any SLA. Prefer clustered solutions using a NAS, or at the least RAID-1 (or 10). I recognise downtime is inevitable, I care more about the impact of single component failure and recovery time.

Control Panel/Security - I'd prefer the host to have a custom control panel (i.e. not cPanel/WHM, Plesk/Parallels, DirectAdmin, H-Sphere etc). I really like DreamHost's panel, in particular their model of arbitrary combinations of shell users and domains underneath them. I like to use this to separate installs of untrusted software (such as MovableType, Wordpress, Gallery, Joomla) into their own user accounts so that if one gets compromised it doesn't hose everything. Need multiple domain hosting.

Disk - 2GB sufficient, 3-4GB preferable.
Bandwidth - 10GB or more (I don't really use more than 2GB but prefer not to worry about overage)
Price - I'm happy to pay US$20-30 for a premium service.
Support - I'm technically savvy and only need for support to be responsive to technical questions & issues (i.e. reporting downtime).

To provide some background - I'm currently a customer of both DreamHost and Media Temple (gs). DH sucks because their uptime is completely unpredictable, I have kept it only because their user/domain model is convenient for toying with untrusted software. (mt) was to be the ideal host but reliability of their (gs) service is crap despite all the claims about superior architecture. Additionally they don't allow separation of users/domains and I don't want to host multiple 3rd party apps in the one account. To their credit (mt)'s support is extremely responsive and the company as a whole are very transparent about outages but they simply have too many technology issues.

Recommended Litespeed/cPanel Host With Unlimited Domains

Oct 6, 2008

I need a VPS with Litespeed, WHM/cPanel, about 2GB of space and unlimited domains. I'm looking for speed and security, not price. Eventually I'd like to upgrade to a dedicated server. Here's what I'm looking for and why:

Located near multiple major networks:
Our current host has been unavailable from certain parts of the Internet. Anonymous proxy shows the site isn't dead, just not responding to my location. The response time from ippatrol.co.uk is about 1.5 seconds. That's about average, right?

Litespeed:
I run WPMU (Wordpress Multi-User) with many add-on domains pointing to a single installation. Problem with WPMU is it makes extensive use of .htaccess. All user-uploaded files are actually parsed through a php script. That's why I'd prefer litespeed's .htaccess handling.

WHM/cPanel:
I don't want to be stuck with a host if they suddenly stop performing. I've heard horror stories about large cPanel transfers, so I'm planning to split this into 3-5 cPanel accounts. Also I want to download my own backups, and don't want to try a 1GB backup. I'm not planning on doing reselling.

2GB of space:
I've got MANY small blogs, but they're all low-traffic. The 2GB is for expansion purposes, and so I can do backups without overage. I should never hit this limit.
