Who Really Knows Win2k3 DNS
Apr 7, 2007
I'm running Apache 2.2 on Win2k3, and my domains resolve fine.. but i'm not satisfied with the whole process hosting a new domain:
Quote:
DNS
-> New Zone
-> next
-> next
-> writing domain name
-> A-record
-> typing in my IP
-> Ok
Apache
-> httpd.conf
-> copy paste, change domain, folder
-> restart apache
how to make DNS-assignment easier? I just want all my domains
pointing to
/htdocs/{{domainname here}}

HI have an urgent need to get this server up. I am trying to install 2x147gb U320 drives on a Tyan S5372 board with the Adaptec AIC-7901x SCSI controller module. I have setup RAID 1 so far and updated the Bios to latest version as well. For some reason when I specify the additional device drivers for the adaptec card for scsi win2k3 still doesn't recognize the drives.
I don't know what to do now and time is running out. I have tried over and over again with different disks thinking it could be a bad disk however that is not the case. I hooked up a sata drive to this server and win2k3 installed fine.

I have a Win2003 dedicated server (with The Planet) that i use to host a large IPB forum site.
I got it about 3yrs ago and as I was a complete newbie to server management I got Plesk CP installed so that it would take care of all the SQL, PHP and mail installation and setup in one easy go.
I've since found Plesk for Windows to be a complete waste of space.. but it's still on there and has never been upgraded. I don't actually use it as a CP.
Similarly PHP and mySQL have never been upgraded.
Now I've got to the stage where, to upgrade the IPB forum software, I need to upgrade PHP and mySQL.. but looking at the installation, they seem to be embedded in the Plesk installation. They're inside the SWSoft/Plesk/ folders and none of the ini or config files appear to be in the places you'd expect them to be.
My question -
Would these upgrades be simple?? A case of just running an update package?? Or is the fact that PHP/mySQL are embedded in Plesk mean that it'll all mess up?
I'm worried that a failed upgrade will knacker the forum, which is why I've delayed for so long.

trying to get my Win2k3 Standard R2 server to work.
Problem:
I did some Windows update around 3am this morning but during the update process. I lost Remote desktop connection as my machine is do several attempts to connect with the remote server. I cancel the attempt after several try. I figure i can remote desktop back in again if i wait for a bit but I couldn't re-establish the connection with my remote server. So, I drove to the Datacenter to check it out and it turn out the machine have rebooted and I'm stuck with "NTDetect failed" error message. After some googling, I was trying to fix this error by copying NTLDR and NTDetect.COM into C: but when i tried to use the Win2k3 CD to go into Windows Setup and repair. I got an error message telling me that "Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer...".
After some googling, I found the two Maxtor SATA hard disks might be the problem and one soultion that i found was to disable the SATA or set it to IDE since the motherboard have nvida RAID controller onboard. I check the BIOS and the RAID is set to disabled and then i tried to disable SATA and only enable IDE. It still give me the same error message about not able to find any hard disk.
I'm on my last rope here. I'm short of reformatting the hard disk and do a fresh reinstall but I will like to avoid this.
Does anyone know if cancel Remote desktop connection attempt during Windows update process cause this NTdetect failed problem or something else that might related to my hardware. I can assure you that two SATA hard disks shown on BIOS.
The soultion to NTDecte failed problem seem to be just copying NTLDR and NTdectect.com into C: but since i can't even get to Repair mode during Windows setup with no disk install error. Can someone recommand how to solve this problem?
The motherboard that i use is ASUS M2N-MX SE AM2 NVIDIA GeForce6100 / nForce430 and the BIOS is American Megatrends Inc.

i have about 8 different domains i'd like to point to a nameserver (ns1./ns2.mydomain.com) on Win2k3 server, but i can't get them resolved through my nameserver without creating a manual forward lookup entry for each *parked* domain separatly..
Does anyone know how to resolve "parked" domains automatically on Win2k3 DNS??
I just can't find any answer for this, everything i've found required manual creation of lookup entries..
anyone?
