VPS For Non-profit Organization

Aug 10, 2008

From reading these forums I have learned alot about many of the hosting companies, but I would like for you guys to weigh in specifically for my situation.

I am Chairman of a non-profit organization (we are a federally recognized 501(c)3 non profit) that will have an internet radio station. We will have 300 or more listeners and so the bandwidth will be tremendous. We will be streaming at 128/kbps and of course a shared hosting environment would not work. Therefore, I am looking at a VPS but price is an issue. I realize that it will not be cheap but I want to find the best deal and the best quality around. With that being said, I realize that I can't find both in one VPS so I am looking for a balance between quality and price. I have read about problems with HostV (not to pick on them) and other companies but their price is good. I just don't know if the price is worth the hassle because this station needs to stay running.

We will be streaming the signal to the VPS from our servers and we will use Shoutcast (we might use icecast but shoutcast looks like the one right now) to broadcast the signal. Our site will be hosted elsewhere so our main use of this server will be the broadcast. I would love any suggestions, thoughts or recommendations for our situation.

BTW, I am not writing this to solicit offers for donations. I am seriously wanting to know what is the best solution for our situation.

Non Profit Webhosting Reviews

The team here at thehost review is pleased to tell you that we are very much pleased with the service you provide. We constantly research the market for better options with regards to hosting. No doubt there are other service providers who are more affordable with regards to hosting, and also offer more on their package deals. Unfortunately for them their service is not as good as yours.

Streaming Video Hosting -- Non-Profit

Apr 29, 2009

I work for an NFP and have multiple video files I'd like to setup on my current webserver. As you can guess, i don't have the sufficient bandwidth to support the traffic.

What's the best/most cost-efficient option? What would be ideal is to embed a player into our webpages (similar to what youtube provides) and the streaming is done in the background by the hosting provider. Obviously, there are legal issues around putting this content on any of the free or public video-sharing sites.

Is this something VPS can do or are there separate options?

We're not looking for domain names, IP's or much sophistication other than just hosting the video files and providing us with instructions/code on how to embed inside our existing website.
