DRAC 4/PE2850
Nov 6, 2009
I recently got a Dell PE2850 used and of course i dont know the drac password, i have never come across this problem but it is aggrivating because i have no clue how to fix this, i've been on dells website, google, i've tried installing openmanage but am completely unable to reset this password.
OS is Windows server 2003 ENT X64.
If anyone has a link or a good way to solve this please post here or IM me, any help is greatly appreciated.
I have tried rcadmin or racadmin whatever it is, but when i turn any command it says racadm config: ERROR
Firmware: [0x000000f9] SPCMP: error setting property

trying to configure this thing, the software on Dell's site (IT Assistant) is what they tell you to use however it wants to scan the network looking for the device. This won't work because I bought this off ebay and god knows what it is set for right now. What is the easy way to reconfigure and talk to this card? Newer DRACs have a boot time config

Anyone know the purpose of the battery on the DracIII cards and what the part number is? I have a Drac III card I want to use, however no battery is on it as it was provided without. Trying to scope if it is really essential and what its purpose is, can't quite find out if it's volatile ram on the card or flash ram and no need for a battery.

Thinking of entry-level collocation for a 1u or 2u 1750 or 2850 server (but not a separate hardware firewall at this point) I'm wondering if I should equip it with a DRAC card on a separate switch port ($10 more per month for an extra switch port). However one concern: how secure is a DRAC card? It would seem to allow you to login with a standard username and strong password, but I still fear it could be brute forced since I'm not aware of a brute-force-detection mechanism that would run on the drac card itself.
Is the only way I can use a DRAC card and feel secure about it to also have a box in front of the DRAC card to lock down and monitor access to the DRAC's IP? Or am I worrying over nothing (I'm not very familiar with DRAC cards yet.)

Just picked up some used Dell PE 1750's, and was planning to add Drac's in them, but I can't seem to find which drac to use. Anyone that has any experience with this model?
Talked with a salesperson at Dell, first he didn't seem to know what Drac was, and after a while he came back to me with Drac IV which fits into PE1850. He belived it also should fit into 1750, but I don't belive that.
