Anyone Heard Of Canaca

Dec 2, 2007

I have decided to try my luck at a reseller plan and so far have found Canaca.com to be the most affordable, I'm just wondering if anyone has dealt with them in the past because their prices seem suspiciously low?

Also, is there anything I should make sure to ask for when ordering (the reseller will be used to host a couple of friends who use apps like Wordpress, Joomla & OSC)?

Canaca Suspended Accounts

May 24, 2008

my account with them just got suspended a few days ago. The reason was they think I was sending spam emails and make their server unstable. They sent me the evident email which was an email I sent to group about 20 people from a non profit organization for a meeting request and discussion of projects. I answer to them and asked for restoration of my email receiving account at least so I can download all the important business email that are still on the server (I'm using IMAP). They never answer both the Sales and the Support. The whole site is suspended. Those Canaca IT guys don't seem to know the differences between a spam email and a legitimate one. They also claimed that they host 200 accounts per server and that is I'm sending more than 100 email it would jam up their server. It seem by that they don't know how to configure their Linux server properly either. I asked around while looking for a replacement hosting service. Many can easily do 500 emails/hour.

By experiences, I also found that their server was performance at all and experiences lots of downtime within one year of hosting with them.

So I strongly recommand to everyone NOT to host with Canaca. If you're already with them start looking for an alternative berfore they suspend your account. You can't afford your customer to see your website showing 'Account suspended' and cannot reach you by email either.

Have You Heard About Grandbytes.com

May 16, 2009

I found this webhosting provider, grandbytes.com, but there is so little information about them. Actually I haven't found any review or something like that.

Their plan is something like "to good to be true": only $2.95/month and you get 20GB hdd and 200 GB bandwidth/month. The only downside I found is that the cron jobs service is not available at this plan (but it is at the more expensive one).

I want to host a website which contains a Wordpress like blog, a forum, and a Coppermine like gallery photo. About 2 GB of hard disk space and about 100 visitors per day. If Moneybookers payments are accepted, than it will have a big plus.

So have you heard anything (good or bad) about grandbytes.com?

Haven't Heard Of YIPES In A While, Are They Still In Business

Jul 7, 2008

I remember back in 2005, when I saw some providers offering hosting and they used Yipes as a carrier.

I believe they used to be cheap, next to cogentco in pricing. Their website reflects like they are still in business but as a different name.

Anybody use them, are they good? or better than cogentco? Hows the pricing?
